Hello again, I hope you are enjoying the Warwick Ahead Newsletter. Its a great way of keeping us up to date with what is happening on the Estate. Neighbourhood Watch's next event will be the Bungalow Bash . This will take place as usual in July, same place, same time,so keep your fingers crossed for a beautiful sunny day. Unfortunately we have had several of our friend and neighbours pass away. Harry Swal- low, Julie Smith, Shirley Ramsey, Ronnie Taylor, Mick Jackson, Paddy Jones and others. MAY THEY REST IN PEACE and RISE IN GLORY. As you know I have had a long period of illness and I have't been around as much as I would have liked, but I have to look after my health. But I haven't forgotten about you and hopefully I will see a bit more of you this spring and summer. My love to you all, Kind Regards Hazel N.H.W. Coordinator LETTER FROM NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH. Well what a busy three months it has been. Starting with the Wartime Sweet- hearts dance being very successful to the AGM where we introduced Kalyee, our new Community Engagement Worker. Regrettably our chairwoman, Ha- zel Richardson, had to step down from Warwick Ahead Broad due to ill health. She will be greatly missed although she will continue her work with Neighbourhood Watch. The Warwick Ahead Broad has been busy with Nova to improve lines of communication with our Partners, WDH and The Council resulting in things moving forward for Grasmere Park and the MUGA. Jo Parkin, from the Council reports that they are moving ahead with the container and it should be in place shortly. As a requirement of our constitution, three members of the board stood down and were re-elected at the AGM. LETTER FROM NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH.

Well what a busy three months it has been. Starting with the Wartime Sweet-hearts dance being very successful to the AGM where we introduced Kalyee, our new Community Engagement Worker. Regrettably our chairwoman, Ha-

zel Richardson, had to step down from Warwick Ahead Broad due to ill health. She will be greatly missed although she will continue her work with Neighbourhood Watch. The Warwick Ahead Broad has been busy with Nova to improve lines of communication with our Partners, WDH and The Council resulting in things moving forward for Grasmere Park and the MUGA. Jo

Parkin, from the Council reports that they are moving ahead with the container and it should be in place shortly. As a requirement of our constitution, three members of the board stood down and were re-elected at the AGM. We would encourage anyone who would like to be-come involved in projects or to simply volunteer a little of their time to contact us at the community shop.

Warwick Ahead sponsored a glance into the past with a 1940’s Sweetheart Dance. We rolled out the barrel. We boogied with the Booggie Woogie Bugle Boy. At Kellingley Club the ball room was filled with 1940’s music and people in period costume. A live singer, Jane Darling, transported us via her music to another time and place. She sang a large selection

of 1940’s music to entertain us all evening. Most people got up and gave the dancing a try resulting in a lot of laughter, if not Dancing with the Stars. We all enjoyed a lovely buffet put on by Kellingley Club as well as a raffle with loads of happy winners. The final song was We’ll Meet Again and so we hope to next year around Valentines Day. A Word from Hazel

I would like to say a big thank-you to all my friends and the residents of Warwick Estate for the beautiful flowers and vase that was presented to me at the Partnership meeting. It is a nice feeling to know that you are appreciated. I will still be around so don’t think you can get rid of me that easily. So many thanks again and good luck with all your projects. Yours with kind regards,

Hazel Richardson

We are excited to announce that we are supporting a brand new community campaign from West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partner-ship. ‘Looking out for our Neighbours’ is a new campaign that aims to help prevent loneliness in our communities by encour-aging people to do simple things to look out for one another. Although lots of people in Knottingley are already doing great

things to help those around them, there is still more we can all do to positively impact on the wellbeing of others. A Health Foundation report (December 2018) highlighted how living alone can make old-er people 50% more likely to find themselves in A&E than those living with family. Pen-sioners living alone are also 25% more likely to develop a mental health condition. ‘Looking out for our Neighbours’ aims to change this - by inspiring people to do small things to reach out to the people around them. The campaign will launch on the 15th March across West Yorkshire and Harrogate and has been co-created with over 100 residents in these areas, drawing on their neighbourly experiences.

~ ~ ~ Grasmere Park Update ~ ~ ~ What exciting times we have in front of us but please allow me to take this time to firstly say thank you to Bobbie Craig for all her hard work and passion she has shown as chairperson of Friends of Grasmere who has now passed the torch on to me to carry on as chairper-son (Rebekah). Matt Leach, the Chief executive of Local Trust that manages the national Big Local pro-gramme visited Warwick on Friday 15th March and was welcomed by members of the Part-nership at the Community Shop. He listened to members explaining the Warwick Ahead plan and projects and was impressed with what he heard. Gill Cook explained some of the history of the Warwick Ahead Big Lo-cal Partnership, and Dan Wake, Danni Whitworth and Ruth Stead talked about the youth work being carried out, with Kenny Stenton adding information about the project to engage young people through Moto Cross activities. Ian Cockerill from NOVA and Tony Herrmann, the Big local rep added more information about how the Partnership was working and the other projects in the Warwick Ahead Plan Matt was then taken on a tour of the estate including the field around the MUGA site where a new Moto Cross/BMX track could be built and ideas about developing a Community Vil-lage. He also visited The Addy to see and hear about their work with children and young people from the area. He left in no doubt about the determination of the Partnership to make the area feel like an even better place to live and leave a long lasting legacy for the future. Tony Herrmann

We are really pleased to let you know that we have been successful in recruiting a Community Engagement Work-er. Her name is Kaylee and she will be starting soon. Once she starts she will be out and about meeting residents, pro-moting the work of Warwick Ahead and finding out about what’s going on in your local area. The Friends of Grasmere Park Group with support from Nova have been successful in gaining additional funding from Pocket Parks Plus which is from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. This together with funding from Warwick Ahead will enable the group to work alongside WDH in improving the park making it a safe and exciting outdoor space. Get involved with helping make the improvements if you can. As part of the ‘Bright Ideas’ work we are setting up a new Charitable Organisa-tion to take on the Motor Cross/BMX tracks and Community Village develop-ments. We are still in the planning stage but hopefully if everything goes to plan these spaces will provide more activities for the community to enjoy along with more community facilities. We would welcome your thoughts and ideas as we go along and we will share what we are planning. Don’t forget we have small grants for any ideas that you have to make a differ-ence to people in your community which could be to support more activities, sports, new groups, a project or a new enterprise We also have funding to sup-port access to a training course or training opportunities that are not free. To ap-ply for funding then contact me on [email protected] or ring 01924 367418. Keep a look out for updates on the Warwick Community Group shop window, the website on www.warwick-ahead.co.uk and on facebook @warwickaheadonline. If you’d like to get involved or find out more we’d love to hear from you. Julie

Knottingley Angels have had a busy start to the year! We are looking for-ward to 2019! We have been working to-wards performances in the local nursing home and any upcoming community events! In May- we are participat-ing in the Magic Weekend in Liverpool; our team will be performing a routine on the pitch! We are looking forward to this as the Magic Weekend is our main annual event! In March- we danced at the Warwick Ahead AGM meeting and the performance ran really well! However, Knottingley Angels have many supporters but one particular supporter, who has supported the Angels since they first started has sadly passed away. Harry from the bunga-lows always took a liking to the team and gave his full support- Knottingley Angels per-formed to Harry specially in July 2018 at the Strawberry Bash as he couldn’t get out to watch the girls perform! Harry will be sadly missed by all of our team including the coaches❤️ We can’t wait to see what the rest of 2019 has to offer for our team!! If you would like to join our dance group and have a passion for dancing (WE ARE RECRUITING) just pop down to The Old Quar-ry Adventure Playground Knottingley WF11 0PJ on a Friday evening at 6pm!! Thank you Dance Leader !!
