Friday, 29 April 2011 Dear Parents of Year 6, The year continues to go very quickly and we are now, not far away from many of the ‘End of Year’ and ‘Elementary/Secondary Transition’ activities that have been planned for the students and parents. The students are all enjoying our new Unit of Inquiry, ‘How the world works’ and the scientific inquiries that are a part of this unit. Please ask your child about the things they have been doing in class and find out more from them. You will remember that earlier in the year, I sent a list of dates to you that showed the details for many of these events. I have decided to resend this information to you with some additional dates so that everyone can plan their schedules according ly for the next six weeks. These dates are listed below. Secondary House Information As part of the students’ transition to secondary school we have arranged for the students to attend several secondary ‘House’ functions. Shortly we will be letting all of the students which House they will be in. (Students with older siblings at NIST will be in the same House as their brothers or sisters.) If students would like to purchase their House Colour shirt to wear at the House functions that the will attend this year, these can be purchased from t he school uniform shop. We have been informed that there is plenty of stock available to enable the Year 6 students to purchase their shirts.  Here are the dates: As you will remember, I have coded the events with (P) for parents only, (S) for students only and (B) for both students and parents. In addition to this information, for some of the events we will provide more details closer to the dates shown if it is necessary.  May 2 (Monday) Student Led Conferences in the year 6 classrooms   various times    (B) May 18 (Wednesday) Parent Meeting regarding Transition to Secondary School  6:00-7:00pm in the theatre (P) May 19 (Thursday) Year 6/7 Transition - Secondary House Room in the secondary school - Yr7’s will meet the Yr6 students  then Yr6’s will join Service Fair run by Yr 9’s. 1:10-2:30pm (S) May 24 (Tuesday Day D) Periods 1-3    Classes 6SS, 6GD, 6AR spend p eriods 1-3 in the secondary school attending secondary classes . (S) May 26 (Wednesday) Yr 6 to join in House with the Yr 7’s who will be presenting some Performances. 1:10-2:30pm in the theatre. (S) May 27 (Friday Day G) Periods 1-3   Classes 6CB, 6DH spend periods 1-3 in the secondary school attending secondary classes.  (S)

June 1 (Wednesday): Year 6 Completion Assembly in the Theatre 9:30-11:00am (it’sbest if all parents can attend this) (B)

June 1 (Wednesday) Year 6 Completion Dinner venue to be announced 6:30-9:00pm(S)

June 2 (Thursday Period 4): Year 6/7 Transition – House Welcome Assembly approximately 1:10- 1:45pm in the secondary school (S)

June 10 (Friday): Y6 End of Term Pool Party in the pool 8:00-9:00am (S)
