U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service 2020-2021 Nocona Unit Hunting Regulations Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge (Texas Public Hunting Lands Region 4, Unit #513) The Nocona Unit of Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge consists of 822-acres located in Montague County, Texas. The habitat is mostly open, gently rolling topography with a variety of native grasses on the uplands and riparian areas along East Belknap Creek. Information The Nocona Unit is part of the TPWD Public Hunting Lands Program. An Annual Public Hunting Permit ($48, available at https://www.txfgsales.com/) is required to hunt on this Unit. When accessing the Unit, Electronic On-Site Registration using the new TPWD "MyTexasHuntHarvest" mobile app is required. Hunting as per state regulations unless otherwise noted. The general regulations that govern hunting on national wildlife refuges are set forth in Title 50, U.S. Code of Federal Regulations. The regulations listed below supplement those in Title 50. All Hunting on Nocona Unit All hunters must have a valid State of Texas hunting license and Annual Hunt Permit. All hunters must possess and carry a signed refuge tearsheet (this information sheet). Hunters age 17 and younger must be under the direct supervision of an adult age 18 or older. We allow hunting only from stands or blinds, or by stalking. We allow only federally approved nontoxic shot for shotguns. Camping prohibited. Target shooting prohibited. Entry into hunt area by foot or bicycle only. We prohibit cutting of trees or limbs greater than 1 inch (2.5 centimeters). All stands and/or blinds must be removed from the refuge daily. We prohibit the placement of screws or spikes in trees. Baiting prohibited. Hunter orange required as per state regulations. Mourning Dove • A migratory game bird endorsement and HIP (Harvest Information Program) certification is required. The month of September and each day of the second spilt of North Zone Dove Season (Mourning, White-winged, Eurasian Collared, and Feral Pigeon). Federally approved non-toxic shot no larger than #4 required. Limit 15 birds. No more than 2 white- tipped. Possession limit 3 times daily bag limit We prohibit falconry. We allow the use of dogs to retrieve game. Feral Hog, Squirrel, and Rabbit The month of September and from the day after the close of General Deer Season for Montague County until the last day of February. No bag limit. Federally approved non-toxic shot, slugs, pellets, and bullets are required while hunting with firearms. Baiting prohibited. Archery Only White-tailed Deer Each day of the Archery, Early Youth- Only, and General Season for Montague County. Bag limit one (1) deer (buck or antlerless) all seasons combined. Firearms prohibited for hunting. Baiting prohibited. Spring Wild Turkey Signs and Boundaries The refuge borders private property. Please respect all landowner rights and refuge signs. Do not access private property to retrieve game without landowner permission. NOTE: Persons possessing, transporting, or carrying firearms on National Wildlife Refuges must comply with all provision of State and local law. Persons may only use (discharge) firearms in accordance with refuge regulations (50 CFR 27.42 and specific refuge regulations in 50 CFR Part 32).
