WELCOME LETTER
Who we are
Canada's leading provider of educational media is proud to offer instant on-demand access to over 4,500
full length and 25,000 clip level educational video programs through Access Learning. This web based
program has award winning content accessible 24 hours a day 7 seven days a week. Educators can
search, stream and download content that has been correlated to provincial curriculum.
Background
DISTRIBUTION ACCESS serves over 16,000 Canadian educational institutions – elementary,
secondary, post-secondary, libraries – Canadian learners of all ages in their homes and educational and
broadcasting organizations around the world.
As well as all the current video formats, DISTRIBUTION ACCESS provides educational video content
via proprietary digital platforms. Also in partnership with the Bell Aliant Learning Centers in Atlantic
Canada, DISTRIBUTION ACCESS provides online web access to schools to stream comprehensive
video libraries matched to curriculum outlets.
Digital customers are supported by Access Digital Media, a division of DISTRIBUTION ACCESS,
providing digital authoring, encoding and technical support services.
With offices in Toronto, Vancouver and Saint John, DISTRIBUTION ACCESS is committed to further
developing and expanding its offerings of educational video content, to being a leader in the digital On
Demand delivery of this content to educational institutions and to individual Canadian households, and
to effectively serve Canadian learners of all ages.

ACCESSING THE APPLICATION
DIRECT ACCESS
Simply enter your username and password to the cells in the login fields, then clicking “login” you will
have access to the Access Learning Digital Library.
Note: IP Authentication is an available option.
PROMO CODE ACCESS
A promo code allows you to quickly set up a unique account. If you have been provided a “Promo
Code” enter the code to the “Promo Code” in the login pane and click “Go.” Next a form will “pop-up”
in your browser. After you have entered your information and agreed to the terms of service you are
ready to “create user” and begin using Access Learning.

NAVIGATION
SEARCH
You can perform a standard keyword search
by entering your keyword into the search
box.
BROWSE
To browse by subject areas, select on the
corresponding box and drill down by topic
area or select a grade range
SEARCH RESULTS PAGE
Once you have completed your search or browse you will be directed to the search results page. Here
you can choose the video that best suits your criteria by clicking on its link, or you can drill down even
further by selecting one the related topics, grades ranges, or media type. Searching with the Advanced
search is an option as well, with options for full videos or clips, search by Title, Producer, grade level
etc.

VIDEO ASSET
A video is broken up into two components: a title and a chapter.
TITLE
A title is the full length video and appears at
the top most portion of the asset list.
CHAPTER
While the chapter is a chronological segmentation of
the title that appears in order underneath
VIDEO PLAYBACK
All videos on Access Learning are defaulted to play
back in a low bandwidth format. However, higher res
Windows Media and MPEG4 are available as
downloads.
To stream simply click the left hand button or right
click on the format to download
SHARING CENTER
The connection manager enables the sharing of
content using Web2.0 tools, the inclusion of content into your
LMS, or the embedding of links
into your office suite.

CURRICULUM CORRELATION
On the main search page if you select “Advanced Search” you can access the search by “Curriculum
Correlation” fields.
By selecting your province, the subject, and grade level you can discover the proper asset that meets
your given correlation.

ACCESS LEARNING PLAYLIST FEATURE
Access Learning is equipped with a playlist feature that enables teachers and students to select a
number of videos that can be accessed and organized in a single location. Playlists can be used to group
a series of videos together in order to create a curriculum or to simplify future navigation for students.
CREATING A NEW PLAYLIST
In order to create a new playlist, click the 'Add to Playlist' button located next to each video icon on the
left-hand panel of the video viewing screen. A pop-up menu will appear with a text field where the user
can add the name of the new playlist. After entering the desired name of the new playlist and clicking
the button labeled 'Create', the playlist will be created.
ACCESSING A PLAYLIST
On the upper, right-hand side of the video
viewing page there are is a 'Playlist' link. Upon
clicking the 'Playlist' link, all of the user's
playlists will be displayed. The user can then
click the corresponding playlist icon to access the
playlistsite.
ADDING A VIDEO TO A EXISTING PLAYLIST
In order to add a video to an existing playlist, click
the 'Add to Playlist' button located next to each video icon on the left-hand panel of the video viewing
screen. A pop-up menu will appear with a list of the playlists that have already been created. When the
user clicks the name of the playlist on the pop-up menu, the corresponding video will be inserting into
that playlist.

REARRANGING THE ORDER OF THE VIDEOS
On the playlist viewing screen there are icons associated with each video in the left hand panel of the
page. There is an 'up' and a 'down' arrow next to each video icon. The 'up arrow' will move the video
closer to the beginning of the playlist and the 'down arrow' will move the video closer to the end of the
playlist.
EDITING PLAYLIST INFORMATION
In the bottom right-hand panel of the playlist viewing screen there will be some information fields
displaying the title, description, grade range and keywords associated with that video. In order to
change the information the user can click on the 'Edit Info' button in the same tab on the bottom right.
The user will then be prompted with text fields, in which they can add or edit the information about the
playlist. After editing the playlist fields, the button on the top of this window labeled 'Update Playlist
Information' will save the information that was just added to the playlist.
DELETING A VIDEO
On the playlist viewing
screen there are thumbnail
screen shot icons
associated with each video in
the left hand panel of the page.
Next to these thumbnails there
is a 'Delete' button.
Clicking the 'Delete'
button will remove that
particular video from the
playlist.
