1 Preparation 1.1 Hardware Requirements

Please make sure that you choose computer systems for the installation that meet our requirements. You'll find a detailed list in HTAppendix A – Hardware RequirementsTH on page X28X of these Guidelines.

1.2 Software Requirements

As with the hardware, the employed operating system must also meet certain requirements. We require either Microsoft Windows 2003 Server or Windows 2008 Server as the suitable operating system for the EWA server. Windows 2000 Server and earlier versions are not supported. P

1P

Microsoft Internet Explorer (32 bit) Version 6 or higher is generally used as the Internet browser. While other browsers, like Internet Explorer (64 bit), Mozilla Firefox or Opera, may be used to a limited extent, they are not officially approved and therefore receive no support. While an Internet browser is a prerequisite for the operation of EPC and WIS/ASRA, Internet access is not necessary.

1.3 Preparatory Measures

Make sure that your operating system is always up to date and constantly maintained. Install the Service Packs as well as the so-called Hotfixes, which correct errors.

For the default installation of EPC and WIS/ASRA you require no additional installation media for databases, drivers etc. Nor you do need any licenses for auxiliary programs. We'll supply you with everything you need.

Make a data backup of your system before carrying out the installation. Even if the installation normally goes smooth – it's best to be on the safe side.

Important! If you wish to perform a stand-alone installation on a computer not constantly connected to a network (such as a notebook), prior to the installation please run the following file, available on any EPC baseline DVD and any WIS update DVD:

[DVD]:\ewa\readme\Support\Standalone_mediasens.reg

Confirm the import to the Windows registry with "OK" and then reboot the computer. Afterwards you can install EPC and WIS/ASRA as described below.

Re 1) Microsoft Windows XP or Vista can also be used on a single-user PC. Keep in mind, however, that you must then work exclusively on this computer, since an unrestricted client-server connection is not possible here.

1.4 List of the Available Media

EPC

When installing EPC for the first time, you'll need a complete set consisting of the following three DVDs:

Archive Code DVDDA1 Code DVDDA2 03/2011 DVD 1/2

This DVD contains data like datacards, catalogs and pictures. The DVD is supplied about once a year.

Archive Code DVDDA3 Code DVDDA4 03/2011 DVD 2/2

This DVD contains data like datacards, catalogs and pictures. The DVD is supplied about once a year.

Baseline Code DVDDB1 MM/YYYY DVD 1/1

This DVD contains dynamic data, such as new and modified datacards as well as all datacards added since the delivery of the last archive. All currently available catalogs and pictures also form part of this DVD. Besides the current data, the current software for EPC, WIS/ASRA respectively is also included. Delivery occurs once a month.

About once a year a complete set of archive DVDs is provided for EPC, in addition to the monthly baseline DVDs. The last delivery occurred in 03/2011. For the following installations the space on the dynamic baseline DVDs suffices for delivering new datacards, for example. When the available space on a baseline DVD no longer suffices, the aforementioned archive DVDs will be sent, which then in turn remain valid for about one year.

For the initial installation of EPC you can always use the current baseline DVD. For example, if you install the August delivery, you don't have to install the previously supplied DVDs, but can start right away with the 08/2011 baseline.

WIS/ASRA

When installing WIS for the first time, you'll need a complete set consisting of the following two DVDs:

Full version MM/YYYY DVD 1/2

This DVD contains master and vehicle data as well as various indexes for full-text searches and titles. ASRA data and damage codes are also included. Delivery occurs four times a year: in January, April, July and October.

Full version MM/YYYY DVD 2/2

This DVD contains documents. Delivery occurs four times a year: in January, April, July and October.

Page 5: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 5 of 33

In the other months you'll receive just one WIS DVD, which like the baseline DVD for EPC contains only modified and new master and vehicle data:

Update MM/YYYY DVD 1/1

This DVD contains updated master and vehicle data, indexes for full-text searches and titles as well as new and updated documents. ASRA data and damage codes are also included. Delivery occurs once a month except for January, April, July and October, when a full version (see above) is supplied.

For the initial installation of WIS/ASRA you can always use the current update DVD. For example, if you install the August delivery, you don't have to install the previously supplied DVDs, but can start right away with the 08/2011 update DVD. During the installation you'll still have to insert the appropriate DVD 2/2 of the 07/2011 full version; you'll be prompted to do so. By the way, you can tell the appropriate DVD sets for WIS/ASRA at a glance by means of the color of the printing.

1.5 Approximate Time for the Installation

Plan about 120 minutes for the complete installation of EPC and WIS/ASRA. This period will of course vary depending on your hardware.

You can now begin the installation!

2 Installation 2.1 Software Installation

Insert the EPC baseline DVD or the first WIS DVD in the DVD drive. Open My Computer and right-click the drive containing the DVD. Select "Open" in the context menu that opens. A window now appears with the contents of the DVD drive, which should look like the following:

Change to the folder "ewa" and run the program "setup.exe":

A new window opens with the Installer Manager, which will accompany you through the installation. Select a Language in which the installation is to occur and click "OK":

Page 7: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Specify the directory in which EWA is to be installed. Only software components and the user management will be installed in this directory; the installation paths of the databases for EPC and WIS will be selected at a later time (see HT2.3 – EPC DatabaseTH or HT2.4 – WIS/ASRA DatabaseTH). In these Guidelines we assume C:\Programme\EWA net as the folder!

Confirm the installation directory by clicking "OK":

To begin the installation, click "Start":

The installation now proceeds in 18 individual steps…

Following successful installation of the software you'll receive the following confirmation:

Following the installation you'll find a group called "EWA" both in the Favorites in Internet Explorer and under Start Programs. The software has been successfully installed!

2.2 Setup of the Software

Start Internet Explorer, open the group "EWA" and there click the shortcut to the initial screen of "EWA".

Page 9: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

The login screen will presently appear. In the following screenshot, the server for the login – in our case the local computer named "TLSRVT03" – is enclosed by a red frame for better clarity. On the right, the software version you've installed is enclosed by a green frame (here pilot version 1.14.223.2).

Should no Java runtime environment be installed yet, you'll be notified accordingly in the "system check". To set up this environment, following the installation consult section 3.2, page 26 ff. During the installation the environment need not yet be set up.

When starting the program for the first time, enter the user name "admin" and the password "admin":

In the next step, change the Administrator's password:

Important! Please note down the new password, since it cannot be reset!

Page 10: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 10 of 33

Let's now look at the administration section:

System messages

Navigation bar

Important messages are displayed as system messages. In our case we are told that no access authorizations are (yet) available on the server. You'll set these up in the next step.

On the left side you see the navigation bar. In the Administration menu select "Server" and then "Edit the access authorization".

Page 11: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 11 of 33

Here you can now enter the access authorizations that you've received in the form of StartKeys from Customer Order Processing:

Now confirm your input with "Save". You'll then see a list of your access authorizations.

Should no valid access authorizations be displayed, check your input and try again. When you receive your StartKeys by e-mail, it's a good idea to copy the character strings to the clipboard (Ctrl+C), in order then to apply them to the StartKey field (Ctrl+V). If this procedure fails, you'll find a solution described in HTAppendix B – Questions and AnswersTH on pages 31 ff of these Guidelines.

You've now successfully installed the access authorization or access authorizations!

Page 12: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 12 of 33

Next, set up your workshop: In the Administration menu select "Server" and then "Workshop".

Define your workshop here: In the Workshop field enter the name of your workshop – in our example, "Testlab". Please note that special characters like umlauts and spaces are not permitted; the corresponding error message will appear if they are used.

The Description and Country fields are mandatory, as is the name of the Workshop, and must therefore be completed. These entries are indispensable in any subsequent tie-in with the feedback feature. You can ignore the "Parts price list" dropdown list for the time being.

Finally, save your workshop settings.

Page 13: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 13 of 33

After you've defined the access authorizations and workshop, set up a group as well as the corresponding users: in the Administration menu select "Server" and then "Group".

Following the installation you'll first see only one Group: the "Administrator group," with you as the Administrator (User: "admin") automatically being a member. In addition to the "Administrator group," create a further group and assign the necessary access authorizations.

Note! If you are performing a stand-alone installation with only one user, please also note the information in Appendix B – Questions and Answers, pages 29 ff!

After creating the group, the definition of the group will again be shown. You can change the group settings at any time. In our example, we won't limit the access authorizations of the group – but of course you can do this.

Page 14: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 14 of 33

For example, if you want to enable only WIS/ASRA for a group, select "No access authorization" for EPC. You can also freely limit access authorizations, however, as shown here:

In the limitation pictured above, users of this group have access only to the assortment class "Car," otherwise all functions are enabled (all markets and datacards).

Please don't forget to save the created group following the definition. After they are saved, the data will be displayed once again. If you want, you can also create still other groups, otherwise we'll continue with the creation of users.

Now only one more step is needed, as well as the installation of the databases, before you can work with EPC and WIS/ASRA. In the Administration menu select "Server" and then "User":

Click "Create" to set up a new user.

Page 15: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 15 of 33

Please note that mandatory fields (marked by a red asterisk) must be completed!

First define the user name and the corresponding password. These fields must not contain any umlauts, but you may use spaces, hyphens, underlining and dots.

Tip! Assign your user a simple password, such as "start," since the user will have to change this password anyway when logging on for the first time.

Then select the group to which your user is to belong. Complete the user information by entering the first and last names as well as the user's role.

Finally, save the new user by clicking "Create". After they are saved, the data will be displayed once again. If you wish, you can now create additional users. You can also copy, edit and of course delete preexisting users. Use the buttons in the "Action" field in the main User screen for this purpose.

Tip! Selecting "Save as template" saves a template with the settings just selected for future users.

For further information, please consult the documentation HP-UM_UserGuide.htm in the folder C:\Programs\EWA net\docs\en.

The software for EPC, WIS/ASRA has been successfully installed!

2.3 Databases

Following the installation and setup of the software, we still need the databases with the contents of EPC and WIS/ASRA. The installation and management of these databases occurs through the EWA Administration, the so-called EWA Admin Tool. Here you can install the monthly data updates, as well as start and exit services and databases for maintenance purposes.

Start Internet Explorer and select EWA Admin Tool from the EWA group in the Favorites (see HTsection 2.2 – Setting Up the SoftwareTH on page 8 of these Guidelines):

The screen shows the EWA Admin Tool with its three tabs:

Core responsible for the Web Server and the User database EPC management of the EPC database WIS management of the WIS/ASRA database

Generally, green traffic lights signify services started for the EWA Web Server and databases. Red traffic lights signify that the server or database is defective or has not been started.

Tip! The EPC database and the WIS/ASRA database can run independently of one another. If you want to install only the WIS/ASRA database, you can skip the following installation instructions for the EPC database.

Page 17: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 17 of 33

2.4 Installation of the EPC Database

Click the EPC tab.

Since the EPC database hasn't been installed yet, the traffic light is gray.

Tip! You can choose different drives for the EPC and the WIS/ASRA database. Depending on the architecture of your network and the expected number of users, distributing the databases over different servers may also be useful.

Page 18: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 18 of 33

Now install the EPC database by clicking the "Install" button:

You'll now be prompted to insert the EPC baseline DVD, bearing the label Baseline, the code DVDDB1 as well as DVD 1/1. Insert the DVD in your DVD drive. Alternatively, you can of course also specify a network path. Then click the "OK" button.

Tip! If you have two DVD drives, insert the first DVD in the DVD drive with the lower drive letter (For example, suppose you have drive F: and drive G:. Since the letter F: precedes G:, the first DVD must lie in drive F:, the second in G:).

Tip! Wait a moment after inserting the DVD. Depending on the drives you use, either the "DVD in" indicator should light up, or the access indicator should go out or stop flashing. Only then should you click "OK", to verify that the DVD in the drive is ready to be installed and read.

In the next step, select the drive on which the EPC database is to be set up. Make sure you have enough memory. Then click "OK".

Tip! In our example, while the space on drive D: is sufficient, you should allow for significantly more hard disk free space. In the next update, the current database will remain stored as a safety reserve, so as to maintain access to a functioning version at all times. At present, it's a good idea to maintain a free space of at least 100 GB for the installation of both EPC and WIS/ASRA on a server. For a single-user PC a hard disk free space of 70 GB may also be sufficient.

Page 19: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

During the installation of the database, you'll be kept informed about the current status of the installation:

You'll now be prompted to insert the first EPC archive DVD, bearing the label Archive, the two codes DVDDA1 and DVDDA2 as well as DVD 1/2. Insert the DVD in your DVD drive. Click the "OK" button once the drive is ready:

Page 20: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 20 of 33

After copying the installation files from the second data medium, you'll be prompted to insert the second archive DVD and therefore the final EPC DVD, bearing the label Archive, the two codes DVDDA3 and DVDDA4 as well as DVD 2/2. Insert the DVD in your DVD drive. Click the "OK" button once the drive is ready:

After copying the necessary files, you'll receive confirmation that all required data have been copied and are now integrated:

You should make sure that at this point no users are logged on the EWA server, which in our example of an initial installation is also not the case. However, when in the future you carry out your monthly updates, you should always make sure that no users are logged on at the time of the database connection setup.

You can now confirm the prompt with "OK" and continue with the integration of the database. During this process you'll be able to see which databases are being set up and attached to the system:

Page 21: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 21 of 33

Following successful installation of the database you'll receive the corresponding message. After this message is confirmed, the traffic light of the EPC database must turn green and the currently installed data status must appear:

Your users can now access the EPC database.

Your EPC database is now ready for use!

2.5 Installation of the WIS/ASRA Database

Click the WIS tab:

Since the WIS/ASRA database hasn't been installed yet, the traffic light is gray.

Tip! You can choose different drives for the EPC and the WIS/ASRA database. Depending on the architecture of your network and the expected number of users, distributing the databases over different servers may also be useful.

Page 23: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Now install the WIS database, by clicking the "Install" button:

You'll now be prompted to insert the first WIS/ASRA DVD (if you received a full version, this well be the DVD labeled DVD1/2, while in an update this will be the WIS DVD labeled Update and DVD1/1). Insert this DVD in your DVD drive.

In the next step, select the drive on which the WIS/ASRA database is to be set up.

3 After the Installation 3.1 Client Installation

After you've set up the connection to the EPC, WIS/ASRA server as described above, your clients will be able to log on your server through the network. To do so, start Internet Explorer on the given client and log on your EWA server according to the following sequence:

http://[Servername]:[Port]/EWA-net

Here's an example of accessing the server TLSRVT03 at port 9000:

http://tlsrvt03:9000/EWA-net

In a single-user installation, the address might be:

http://localhost:9000/EWA-net

Save this link in Internet Explorer after you've successfully connected to the server.

Tip! The DVD contains a small tool for facilitating the setup of clients. Open the folder [DVD1]:\ewa\readme\tools\ewa_client_favorites on the first EPC or WIS/ASRA DVD and launch the tool. The PDF document with the same name and in the same folder explains the method of operation.

3.2 Java Runtime Environment

To run EPC or WIS/ASRA, you must install the Java runtime environment.

Log on the EWA server (see HT3.1 – Client InstallationTH on this page) and select the download section on the left navigation bar:

Page 27: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 27 of 33

There, click the link to the Java runtime environment:

Install the Java runtime environment; the installation is menu-assisted. Following the installation, you'll be able to access from this computer the EWA server with its EPC and/or WIS/ASRA applications.

Anhang B Questions and Answers Question: I receive error messages while installing EPC, WIS/ASRA

Answer: If either the fault message "Error opening source file" appears or you discern no progress in the step "Checking source medium," you should cancel the installation and check your DVDs and your DVD drives. Each DVD includes a small Help program that you can use to run the test yourself:

Insert the DVD to be tested in the DVD drive and open My Computer. Change to the DVD drive. Open the folder checkmd5 in which you will find the checksums and the related test program filecheckmd5.exe. Start the program.

You can now follow the test and on completion will be shown the results.

It is important that the result "EVERY FILE APPEARS OK!" is displayed. Should this not be the case, you should repeat the test with a different drive (and with a different computer if necessary). If the test finds no errors there, you'll have to replace the old DVD drive by a new one.

Should the test also not have positive results on the other drives, the DVD is probably defective and has to be replaced. You can request new DVDs here:

Question: I have expanded my EPC StartKey and already entered the key, and yet additional functions (e.g. datacards) are not displayed

Answer: After expanding the StartKey, always update your EPC database with the "EWA Admin Tool," which you'll find in Internet Explorer in the group "EWA net" in Favorites.

The data packages will then be updated and completed according to your StartKey.

Question: The StartKey has been correctly entered, but it's not accepted

Answer: First check whether the current MAC address (LAN-ID) of your EWA servers matches the MAC address (LAN-ID) for which your StartKey was created. The current MAC address is displayed as described on page 9 of these Guidelines. This character string must match the string occurring in the message sent by Customer Order Processing. If this is not the case, there are the following possibilities:

a) The displayed MAC address is different from the address you requested

Check whether more than one network adapter is present in your server. This may be not only classical network cards, but also cards and USB sticks with WLAN and/or Bluetooth functionality. You can check this in a prompt window as described below:

- Press the key combination Windows+R, enter the string cmd under "Open" in the window that opens and click "OK". A window from the prompt (also known as "DOS Prompt") opens.

- Enter the string ipconfig / all at the flashing DOS Prompt and then press ENTER. You'll receive a list of all available network adapters with their names and various information, including the MAC address ("physical address"). Please note down the name of the adapter, whose physical address corresponds to the ordered MAC address. Afterwards you may close the window.

- Now open your configuration of your network connections ( Start Settings Network connections). In the pulldown menu click Advanced Advanced Settings, which opens a new window named "Advanced":

Page 31: Users_Guide_to_Installation_EWA.pdf

Daimler AG | GSP/OIP & ITF/SW | Installation Guidelines for EPC, WIS/ASRA | 06/2011 Page 31 of 33

- Select the connection with name you noted down; in our example that's the connection with the name "LAN connection 2".

- Click the Up arrow key until the LAN connection lies at the top. Confirm your changes by clicking "OK". Afterwards you may close the "Network Connections" window. If necessary, you may have to reboot your server, after which the EWA server should display the desired MAC address (LAN-ID).

b) The MAC address does not match the address you requested

Please contact the Customer Support Center and have a new StartKey created.

Question: As an Administrator I receive no programs displayed

Answer: Members of the "Administrator group" are not assigned access authorization in the default installation, which of course also applies to your user, "admin". Should you wish to use exclusively an "admin" user in your single-user installation, you must assign access authorization to the "Administrator group".

To do so, select the menu item "Group:" in the Administration sector in the left navigation bar:

Click the action field "Edit" in the "Actions" column in order to change the settings of the "Administrator group".

Change the definition of the access authorizations from "No access authorization" to "As workshop access authorization," in order to allow the users in the Administrator group to access the EPC and/or WIS/ASRA programs. Don't forget to save your changes. After saving the changes you can access the programs (left navigation bar, "Programs").
