My father Eben N. Lambert IV served aboard the Everglades as
an Engine Mechanic From 1956 to 1962 and was stationed in
Charleston, SC. Dad passed several years ago and I am just now
scanning pictures that he had taken for all of the family to enjoy
and share with the crew.

May 2019 E-Mail News letter #4
Hello Gary...... By way of introduction, I'm Vince Geraldi, USN, 1954-1957, AT3, VP-56, CREW 5. As a current mem-ber of the Mariner/Marlin (MMA) Seaplane Association, I often see and read your Combined Ten-der Association newsletter with interest. I have mixed and fading memories of being on board the USS Currituck (AV-7) during the fall of 1956 to take part in VP-56's Mediterranean cruise. But, awaiting the squadron and the Currituck in Taranto, Italy, I had the dubious distinction of being assigned to the USS Alameda County (LST-32) which I had neither heard of before nor met anyone who served on board since. That is why I'm reaching out to you and your members in an effort to locate Alameda County crew members so they can share their sea stories and perhaps even join your Combined Asso-ciation as a group. As a very impressionable 19 year old still wet behind the ears, my very short stay on the Alameda County was a revelation to behold. My first thought, when I saw it tethered to the dock, was that it looked exactly like one of the WWII ships I had seen in the movie newsreels as a little kid. And, guess what......it was a WWII ship that did take part in the invasion of France in 1945 ! Aboard ship, we were housed and slept in the forward hold where rows of bunks were stacked. The chow hall was pretty small and we had to eat in shifts. But the most memorable and gross of all was the head which I will spare you the details. For a full rundown of the ship’s history, just Google USS ALAMEDA COUNTY (LST-32). There is also a nice website (lst32.com) with lots of interesting sea stories and reunion pho-tos. It seems that there are still enough shipmates to continue their reunions.

Cudgma, John J. "Jack"
John J. "Jack" Cudgma of Branford died Saturday, November 10, 2018. He was the beloved husband to Carol Bun-
nell "Bunny" Cudgma for nearly 60 years. Jack was born in New Haven, September 13, 1937 son of the late John
and Agnes Sinkievich Cudgma. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Torpedoman 2nd Class. Jack worked for
SNET for 30 years, retiring in 1993 as a Plant Engineer. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary Church in Bran-
ford. Jack was an avid camper, baseball coach, and a former member of the Ancient Mariners Fife and Drum Corps.
He was always there to offer advice on a subject when asked but would never force his opinions upon anyone. He
especially loved his family and spending time with them at home, or at his second home, his camper.
For all of you that have attended our Reunions each year Jack & Bunny were always there, helping where they
could, and Jack with a Story that you could not help but make you laugh. Jack will be missed.
ERIC DAVIS
My dad, Perry Eric ‘Dave’ Davis, was a maintenance officer with VPB-20, a fleet of PBM’s that were painted black and flew night missions on Japanese targets. His tender was the USS Currituck. Dad AL-WAYS spoke fondly of his days in the South Pacific serving with the Navy. He passed away Jan 7, 2018, just one year ago, age 98. Was vital and healthy right up to the end. Dad. Upper Right
