UW 2013 Finance & Facilities Employee Survey Leverage Analysis Description

Quadrant Analysis Quadrant analysis provides a way of selecting areas to focus on, by calculating each area’s leverage on a “bottom line” measure — overall engagement. The high priority targets identified by quadrant analysis are those which meet two criteria:

1. They need improvement, and 2. Their improvement will strongly leverage the bottom line — overall engagement.

The analysis is conducted as follows:

1. Leverage

The first step is to correlate each individual rating with overall engagement.

The higher the correlation for any individual area, the greater its leverage — improving scores in that area can be expected to improve overall engagement. The lower the correlation, the lower its leverage — improving scores in that area can be expected to have little or no effect on overall engagement. 2. Performance

The next step is to measure the level of satisfaction for each area. This is its mean rating, based on a five-point scale. 3. Preparing a quadrant analysis chart

The leverage (correlation) and performance (mean rating) scores are then plotted in a chart, as shown on the next page.
