September 2018 Suvartha3

I was half way on my drive to a place abouttwenty miles away from my home in a smalltown in USA. The sun was shining, the trafficwas smooth, and the drive was fun. I was feelingfine as I looked forward to a meeting. This wasgoing to be a good day.

All of a sudden, I realized that I did not havemy cell (mobile) phone with me. I checked myjacket and coat pockets and the dashboard areaof the car. The phone was not anywhere to befound. I thought about all the places where Imay have left the phone and recalled that thephone was near my breakfast coffee just a shortwhile ago.

Suddenly, again, I sensed real anxietywelling up within me, flooding my mind withunsettling thoughts. What if my daughter textedme from out of state with an emergency? Thereis no way for my wife to get hold of me if she isin any danger. What would I do if I had anaccident? How would I letanyone know? I could feelmyself moving to a panic stateas I continued to drive.

Consider this.I left my home in India more

than four decades ago withone barely full suitcase andeight one dollar bills to cometo America. I was not officially twenty-one yearsold yet. I had never left home alone before togo anywhere outside my home state. On fewoccasions when I crossed the Indian state line,I was accompanied by parents, teachers, orfamily members. Still, I was not panic-strickenon my way to America as I found myself thisday.

When I landed for the first time in John F.Kennedy (JFK) Airport in New York at night, very unsure if my relative there – one of onlytwo I had in America then - had received theletter regarding my arrival, I was afraid. But acouple of friendly people I met on the airplanefrom Heathrow Airport in London to JFK gaveme courage. I was not panicking.

I was homesick – missing my belovedparents and siblings - as I checked into a

In iPhone I Trust?

dormitory room on the campus of Yale UniversityDivinity School, but I was not in panic. Leavingmy parents, siblings and the church memberswho loved me so much, was painful, but I knewGod was leading me to the future He had forme. That assurance gave me comfort.

I did not know anyone in New Haven,Connecticut - home of Yale University - duringthe early days of my study there. I knew noone to call if I had a need. I had no means oftransportation except campus bus for local tripsand Greyhound or Trailways buses foroccasional trips to New York. I don’t recallhaving panic attacks regarding this situation.

I had to spend almost all of a week’s earningsfrom campus employment in those days tomake a pre-arranged ten-minute phone call toIndia to hear a loved one’s voice. When I couldnot afford to call, I was sad, but I knew Godwas with me. I was sure that He was watching

over me. I was not overlyanxious.

Several passagesreassured me of God’s careand protection during mylonely days: “I am with you”(Matt. 28:20); “I will never leaveyou” (Heb. 13:5); “Do not beanxious about anything” (Phil.

4:6). I found comfort in God’s word. I foundpeace in God’s presence (Phil. 4:7). I foundstrength in God’s Spirit (2 Cor. 12:9).

What has happened to me? How could I beso anxious about a missing mobile phone? DidI allow the iPhone maker to cultivate suchdependency in me for their product that itsseparation for a short time caused such panic?Did I replace my Savior with a machine? Did Ilose my simple trust in God as I achieved theAmerican dream and accumulated materialthings?

The missing mobile phone and my palpableanxiety confronted me that day. I was forcedto face this question: What is the motto of mylife? In God I trust? Or in iPhone I trust? Idecided to put my trust in God. I hope myanswer will always be, In Christ alone!

“Do not be anxious about anything” (Phil. 4:6)“I will never leave you, nor forsake you” (Heb. 13:5)

How could I be soanxious about a miss-

ing mobile phone?Did I replace my Savior

Hiding is the second oldest sin in the historyof the world - a sin that is the consequence ofthe first one - disobedience.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating thefruit that they were not allowed to eat. Beforeeating that fuit, they were naked but were notashamed of their nakedness (Genesis 2:25).When they disobeyed God by eating the fruitthat God forbade them to eat they realized theirnakedness and were ashamed of it. The Biblesays, "Then the eyes of both were opened andthey knew that they were naked. And theysewed fig leaves together and made themselvesloincloths" (Genesis 2:7 - ESV).

Shame was aconsequence of the sin ofdisobedience. We go intohiding as Adam and Evedid because we areashamed of ourdisobedience. In this caseof Adam and Eve they triedto hide their nakednessfrom each other. Theynever had to do that beforethey committed sin. Beforesinning they were nakedbut were not ashamed; butafter sin they did notbecome naked but wereashamed of theirnakedness. They neverhad to hide theirnakedness from each other since they werenot ashamed of it. Sin brought shame into thelife of humans so they started hiding from eachother!

This act of making something to cover theirnakedness with fig leaves is symbolic of humanattempt to hide our shame from each other. Thisact of hiding from each other is a game that thedescendants of Adam and Eve (including youand me) have perfected over the years. Thisexplains why spouses hide many aspects of

The ancient art of hiding!

their lives from each other. Many marriages arewrecked because spouses play this game untilthe inevitable happens. Parents hide their livesfrom their children by hiding behind an ideal pastthat they never had. Children hide their livesfrom parents too by pretending to be what theyare not yet. Many pastors have hidden theirshameful lives from their congregation and whenthey had to come out of their hiding, theirmarriages are broken, children are shattered, and their congregations fall apart.

Sin produces shame, shame sends us tohiding, and hiding makes us continue in sin. This chain has to be broken!

Humans not only hidefrom each other but fromGod too. That is the secondact in the drama of hiding. The writer of Genesis tellsus, "And they heard thesound of the LORD Godwalking in the garden in thecool of the day, and theman and his wife hidthemselves from thepresence of the LORD Godamong the trees of thegarden" (Genesis 3:8ESV).

What they hid fromeach other is their shamebut from God they tried tohide themselves. Why do

people deny God? I have often found that mostpeople who deny God have no philosophicaljustifications except their own sense of guilt.Their way of dealing with sin is to deny thatGod doesn’t exist or doesn’t matter. This isvividly portrayed in Psalms 14 and 53: "The foolsays in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They arecorrupt, they do abominable deeds, there isnone who does good" (Psalm 14:1 ESV).

‘Saying in his heart’ is an attempt to convinceoneself. The two sentences of the above verse

"And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of theday, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God

among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him,“Where are you?” (Genesis 3:8,9)

are connected as a bridge that has two-waytraffic. The denial of God is the result of theircorruption and at the same time it is the denialof God that leads to corruption as well.

God is merciful and kind but He can dealwith our shame only if we can come out of ourhiding into the open. When we come out to theopen then He deals with our sins. In the caseof Adam and Eve, He points out that the humanattempt to hide from each other is inadequate. However there is a divine solution which involvesa sacrifice. The writer of Genesis only knew

that the solution to the human problem is asacrifice of an animal. Many Christianinterpreters see here an indication of Christ’ssacrifice on the cross.

God demands us to admit what has gonewrong in our lives. This is what God did whenhe called out to Adam, ’Where are you?’ Godknew where he was and what he has done butby this God was demanding an admission fromAdam. God wants Adam to acknowledge whathe has done and thus come out of his moralhiding.

Freedom may be the most wanted andbeneficial condition for people and nations. Toachieve freedom, many nations agitated in thepast history and some fight even today .Thousands of people from all over the world havesacrificed their life for this to happen. Lack offreedom is the most unwanted situation - life ofentanglements, without dignity or identity andwith no possible improvement. Such a conditionis called slavery. Noone, not even theanimals or birdsappreciate it. Freedomhas generally beenclassified into differentcategories, such aspolitical, social, economic andreligious. Then there isfreedom to think, freedom of speech, freedomto write, freedom of belief, etc. Though theseare the facts, today we are unsure aboutfreedom in many countries. Even in ourdemocratic India, people are really missing thesweet taste of freedom now-a-days - especiallythe Christian community. On political andreligious grounds, we have an uncertain scenarioahead of us. Nevertheless we all have to go

"Freedom Thoughts"

forward till our last breath or the Lord’sappearance.

In this context it is appropriate to think andknow about the freedom we enjoy in JesusChrist our Saviour. Saint Paul wrote, “Stand fasttherefore in the liberty by which Christ HASMADE US FREE, and do not be entangledagain with a yoke of bondage”.(Galatians 5:1).This is a great declaration from the man of God

by the inspiration ofthe Holy Spirit aboutChristian freedom.

BIBLICALOUTLOOK

God had sentJesus Christ in thefullness of the time to

the fallen world to declare and establish thefreedom for humanity who were entangledterribly into sin and its master Satan (Isa. 61:1-2; Luke 4:18, 19). The consequences ofbondage are too heavy to describe, but the Lordhas broken them on the cross through Hissacrificial death. Thus liberty became a reality. The great emancipation is achieved and hasbecome accessible to all humanity.

"If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36)"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free,

and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage" (Galatians 5:1)

Lack of freedom is the mostunwanted situation - life of

entanglements, without dignity oridentity and with no possible

improvement. Such a condition iscalled slavery. No one, not even the

animals or birds appreciate it.

It is absolutely free! The Lord Almighty spenteverything for us. The prophecies got fulfilled. The prolonged anticipation got the answer.Father God was satisfied because the demandof divine justice was fulfilled. Saviour, JesusChrist, declared, “it is finished” on the cross.Satanic kingdom got defeated. His power wasdiminished. His head that deceived many wascrushed. The power of sin was nullified. Thedarkness drifted away. Gates of hell got shaken. The last enemy, death, was invalidated.

The glory of the Lord has appeared. Thedivine light has dawned. The darkness has beendrowned. Clouds have got split and have madea new way to eternity. Clutches of sin arebroken; chains of curse are removed. The cageof sin and its forces is opened. Christ has madeus free. We have obtained two wings ofjustification and sanctification by His grace tofly over everyaccusation of the devil. Thus we have receivedlegal and divineprotection. Jesus saidprior to His death, “---if the Son makes youfree, you shall be freeindeed” (John 8:36).The true freedom isseen in Christ alone. It is total and absolute.Hence Paul wants us to stand fast in it. Do wereally understand the value and dignity of thefreedom God has granted to us in Christ? Dowe really thank Lord for this?

A WORD OF WARNING!

In Galatians, Paul not only proclaims thegreat news of freedom, but gives a warning andthe need to be alert in life. There are possibilitiesfor us to be entangled again into the bondages. The forces of the world wait for a time to sweepover us with their masterful tricks. There aremany so called church members entangled invarious bindings. Some are ignorant, but someare purposely in them for a few achievements.

There are some people entangled to the lustof money and wealth, a few others to the lust ofpower - politics. Many are individually entangledto envy, anger, backbiting, party spirit, hatred, contentions, deceiving others, selfishambitions, etc. We, the Lord’s people, mustbe very cautious about all these kinds of

We, the Lord’s people, must be verycautious about all these kinds ofschemes of the enemy of God’s

Kingdom. Otherwise darkness willbe on our path and eventually we willend up in the outer darkness whereweeping and gnashing of tooth will

welcome us!

The freedomthat is granted

Spirit. There is aline of control

all, it is not onlyour freedom

schemes of the enemy of God’s Kingdom.Otherwise darkness will be on our path andeventually we will end up in the outer darknesswhere weeping and gnashing of tooth willwelcome us!

WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

The epistle of Galatians is the Magna Chartaof the Christian freedom. Therefore we need topick up a few immediate remedies from it andapply to our daily life. Looking at the Galatianbelievers’ spiritual condition, Paul says that hetravails for them again, until Christ is formed inthem (4:20). This means, though they arecoming to the church, Christ is not active inthem, or He is not growing in them. We need tomake sure that we have Christ in us and HEmust increase in us as Baptist John said.

Another issuePaul points out is,“they are fallen fromthe grace” (5:4b). Thegrace is given to usnot to fall but to standfirm in the freedom. Here we need to takeheed and ask, are wetrusting and standingin the grace? Jude’salarming words are

here befitting, “--- ungodly men who turned thegrace of our God into lewdness” (obscenity -Jude v.4). Without falling from the church, onecan fall from grace!! Be careful!!

Finally, we need to understand the greatnessand the obvious confines of our freedom. Thefreedom that is granted to us never promotesus to use this liberty as an opportunity for theflesh but through love serve one another (5:13).It is freedom of the Spirit. There is a line ofcontrol (LOC) for every one. Above all, it is notonly our freedom alone but it is of Christ too. This means, we need to allow Jesus Christ towork in us, deal with us and interfere in everymatter freely. Could it be possible? Are we reallypermitting Jesus to do whatever He wills in ourlife? If not, we have to resettle our life once againtowards Him. This is the Christian life in fact.Be a true Christian, have a genuine enjoymentof freedom in Christ.

May these freedom thoughts help all of usto assess and analyze our life in the light ofHis unchanging Word.

Meditations from"Ephesians"

V. From Chapter 5

Apostle Paul’sletter to the Ephesianscan be viewed as twohalves of one bigpicture about receivingand giving faith. Whilethe first three chapters(1–3) describe whatGod has done for usin Christ (“receivingfaith”), the last threechapters (4–6) describe what we are to do inresponse to what God has done for us (“givingfaith”).

One of the prime things we are called to dois live for God and imitate Him just as childrenfollow after the patterns seen in their parents.Godliness is living the way God wants us to. InEphesians, godliness is exhorted in terms ofbehavior, motivating dynamic, and example.Godly behavior is modeled after God Himself, especially as He has revealed Himself in Hisfullness in Jesus Christ.

One of the patterns ofa godly life-styleincludes walking in love, which means giving ofourselves sacrificially forthe benefit of others, justas Christ has done for us(5:2). God loved us whenwe were still Hisenemies. The proof of Hislove is that He gave Himself for us in death atCalvary. As imitators, we should demonstratethat type of self-sacrificial love. A goodunderstanding of God’s love and our place inHis family (1:5) motivates the self-sacrifice thatis necessary for our daily Christ-like living.

Another pattern would be in imitating God’sforgiveness (4:32). Just as God in Christ hasforgiven us, we should also forgive one another.

In our spiritual life, weshould manifestChrist to the world andseek to walk worthyof our dignity as Hisbeloved children.Christ pleased HisFather by givingHimself for others. The moral is that wetoo can bring joy to

God by giving ourselves for others. Christ is alsoour example in holiness of life, purity of thought, and cleanness of speech.

Christ was the true burnt offering, the Onewho was completely devoted to do the will ofHis Father in heaven, even to the death of thecross. This sacrifice is eulogized as being for asweet-smelling aroma. F.B. Meyer comments:“In love so measureless, so reckless of cost, for those who were naturally so unworthy of it,there was a spectacle which filled heaven with

fragrance and God’sheart with joy”?

Let us model our livesafter Christ and imitateHim in our relationships. He is the perfectexample of the love Godrequires from us. We canpractice this by puttingthe interests of othersabove our own through

loving, serving and selfless living for others (Phil.2:3-5). As we truly love others in word and action, others will see that we are truly the disciples ofJesus Christ.

“A new commandment I give to you, thatyou love one another; as I have loved you, thatyou also love one another. By this all will knowthat you are My disciples, if you have love forone another.” (John 13:34-35)

Let us model our lives after Christand imitate Him in our relation-

ships. He is the perfect example ofthe love God requires from us. Aswe truly love others in word and

action, others will see that we aretruly the disciples of Jesus Christ.

When I was pastoring a church inMichigan I invited all “baptizedbelievers” to join at the Lord’s Table. That prompted a few people who cameto me and asked why say, “baptizedbelievers"? Is baptism really neededfor taking communion?

When we make a deeper studyabout communion and baptism, we findthat both have significant roles in abeliever’s life. It is certainly a biblicalposition to invite "baptized believers"for the Lord’s Table.

Two sacraments: Baptism andthe Lord’s Table.

There are two sacraments given tothe church, Baptism and the Lord’sTable, but these serve dif ferentfunctions.

Baptism is a one time event thatsignifies:

a) identification withChrist in His death, burialand resurrection and

b) entrance into theChristian church.

Lots of passagespoint this way. Take forexample the GreatCommission: We arecommanded to makedisciples, baptizing themin the name of Father,Son, and Holy S pirit(Matthew 28:19), There are multiplereferences in Acts, where people arebaptized in the name of Jesus (Acts2:39, 8:16; 10:48). In the Epistles, Paulspeaks of "being baptized into Christand into the body" (Gal. 3:27; Rom.6:5). In other words, baptism is whatidentifies one with Christ and unites

Relationship of Baptism withThe Lord’s Table

“The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that webreak, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one

body, for we all partake of the one bread” (1 Corinthians 10:16,17)

one to the church. We also see this inActs 2, where people repent, believeand are baptized and thus are “added”to the church (Acts 2:38-41).

The Lord’s Table, on the other hand,is an ongoing, repeatable event (“asoften as you eat this bread and drinkthis cup do this in remembrance ofme”) that signifies:

a) continuing in fellowship withChrist,

b) continuance in the Christianfaith,

c) and unity with the Christianchurch.

This is especially clear in 1 Cor.10:16-17, where Paul says, “The cup

of blessing that we bless, is it not aparticipation in the blood of Christ? Thebread that we break, is it not aparticipation in the body of Christ?Because there is one bread, we whoare many are one body, for we allpartake of the one bread”. This showsus that communion involves both aspecial fellowship (“participation”) withJesus and symbolizes our unity withthe “one body” of Christ (“we who aremany are one body”).

The Sequence: Baptism precedesCommunion.

So, while baptism is an initialprofession of faith, the Lord’s Table isan ongoing, continual, andrepeated renewal of faith. But isn’t itdishonest for someone to participatein a renewal of faith, if they’ve neverprofessed faith in baptism to start with?

Communion is alsosomething of a pledge ofrenewed trust in Christand obedience to Him(which is one reasonwhy Paul warns againsteating or drinkingunworthily in 1Corinthians 1:27). But itwould be pretense forsomeone to takecommunion when hehas not even taken the

first step of obedience to Jesus inbaptism!

Then there is also the biblicalpattern. The sequence is alwaysbaptism first, followed by communion."Those who accepted his messagewere baptized, and about threethousand were added to their number

Dr. Shibu Samuel Ph.D.Dallas

While baptism is an initial profession of faith, theLord’s Table is an ongoing, continual, and

repeated renewal of faith. But isn’t it dishonest forsomeone to participate in a renewal of faith,

if they’ve never professed faith inbaptism to start with? It would be pretense for some-one to take communion when he has not even taken

the first step of obedience to Jesus in baptism!

that day. They devoted themselves tothe apostles’ teaching and tofellowship, to the breaking of bread andto prayer" (Acts 2:41,42). Those whoare baptized and added to the churchparticipate in the breaking of bread.Paul talks at length about communionin 1 Corinthians 11, it is only fair toassume from a reading of the earlierpart of the letter (chapter 1) that he iswriting to baptized Christians. Thereis no example in Acts orthe Epistles to suggestthat anybody canparticipate in the Lord’sTable without anyrestriction.

Add to this thewitness of the churchthrough the ages. Whilehistorical creeds andconfessions don’t settlethe matter (Scripturedoes that!), they do giveus some clear benchmarks forunderstanding how the church hashistorically understood the doctrine. And from what I can tell, the majorityof churches have either taught orassumed that baptism should precedecommunion. Of course, there aresignificant disagreements about themode and timing of baptism – butalmost all agree that baptism mustcome first.

So, the invitation offered to“baptized believers” at the beginning

of the communion service to share inthe Lord’s Table is absolutely Biblicaland also relevant. Such anannouncement is helpful for a couplereasons. First of all, it is a timelyreminder for parents that their kidsshould be baptized before takingcommunion. It is also helpful forseekers and non-Christians who maybe present in the congregation toconcretely discern for themselves

about their eligibility to share the Lord’sTable. Of course, being baptized itselfdoes not make anyone a Christian ornecessarily prove he is one. Butmaking a public declaration under theauthority of a local church is animportant step and a good safeguardagainst self-deception.

Their Significance: Making theGospel Visible.

Finally, let us never forget that bothbaptism and the Lord’s Table are givenby the Lord to make the gospel visible

to the church and the world.Baptism points to the death, burial

and resurrection of Jesus. It is adramatic reenactment of thehumiliation and exaltation of our Lordand signifies our union with Him throughfaith. “Do you not know that all of uswho have been baptized into ChristJesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him bybaptism into death, in order that, just

as Christ was raised fromthe dead by the glory ofthe Father, we too mightwalk in newness of life”(Romans 6:3). Baptismpublicly declares thatwhatever is true of Christis also true of all whotrust in Him. His story isour story, in His death wealso died, and throughHis resurrection, wereceive life made new.

The Lord’s Table, likewise,“proclaims the Lord’s death until hecomes” (1 Cor. 11:26). When we eatthe broken bread and drink the fruit ofthe vine, we taste and see that thecrucified and risen Savior is graciousand good. We embody our faith througheveryday acts of walking in thenewness of life in good fellowship withGod and man. We trust in Christ andHis finished work alone for oursalvation, spiritual life and strength.

Baptism publicly declares that whatever is true ofChrist is also true of all who trust in Him. His story isour story, in His death we also died, and through Hisresurrection, we receive life made new. The Lord’sTable, likewise, “proclaims the Lord’s death until he

comes” (1 Cor. 11:26). We embody our faith througheveryday acts of walking in the newness of life in

good fellowship with God and man

Quotable Quotes from Watchman Nee

"Faith looks not at what happens to him but at Him Whom he believes"

"We need to follow our Lord’s admonition to remember Lot’s wife, for she was one who did not forgether possessions even in a time of the greatest peril. She was not guilty of having retraced a single

step towards Sodom. All she did was look back. But how revealing was that backward glance! Doesit not speak volumes concerning the condition of her heart?"

"Prayer is work. The experiences of many children of God demonstrate that it accomplishes far morethan does any other form of work. It is also warfare, for it is one of the weapons in fighting the

enemy. However, only prayer in the spirit is genuinely effectual"

"Prayer is the acid test of the inner man’s strength. A strong spirit is capable of praying much and praying with allperseverance until the answer comes. A weak one grows weary and fainthearted in the

maintenance of praying"

Social media have becomeprominent parts of life for many youngpeople today. The average person nowspends more time each day on theirphone and computer than they dosleeping. No doubt, social media isable to connect to the people aroundthe world with a click of a button andis beneficial to some extent for sharingthe message.

Are we as a society becoming moreconcerned with Facebook “Friends”than we are with the people we interactwith face to face in our daily lives?Daily overuse of these social mediasites tends to have harmful effect onthe health of all youngsters as it makesthem more susceptible to varioushealth problems in future. Children areat higher risk of depression, low selfesteem, and eating disorders and moreprone to feeling isolated anddisconnected.

Few questions to ask today’syouth::

a) How much time do we spendon social networking sites depriving ourvaluable time and not sleeping enough?

b) Are we interested to spend timewith God or it is just due to thecompulsion of parents?

c) How much time do we devoteourselves for prayer?

d) Are we not whiling away our timein futile things?

It’s the need of the hour to thinkdeeply and must be able to beanswerable to our conscience. As weread in I Corinthians 10:23: "All thingsare lawful for me, but not all things arehelpful; all things are lawful for me, butnot all things edify".

Children of God should be aware ofthe danger of excessive self-love andpre-occupation with self.

2 Peter 1.10 says: “Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent tomake your CALL and ELECTION sure, for if you do these things you will neverstumble”.

I know about a youth who stays inthe same house, texts her mother fromone bedroom to another asking her toserve dinner / various other activitieswhich otherwise could be discussedface to face. Children are foundrefraining themselves from talkingabout their issues to parents whichresults in anxiety and depression. They are losing their connectivity withGOD. Satan with all his power is tryingto grab the precious time of today’syouth misleading him / her to spendmaximum time on phone whichotherwise could be utilized forsomething productive and useful. Weas parents should be vigilant and activeto guide our children to walk on thepath of light. We must make themrealize the importance of using actualBIBLE than the bible on phone.

I heard a man of God preaching,“You must carry your ‘HOLY BIBLE’to church and not your electronicgadgets because your phone is notHOLY”. Devil is seeking to distractmankind from understanding the signsand closeness of Jesus’ coming.

Encourage youngsters to spend timein spiritual activities. These dayschildren of the age 1 -5 years are alsoseen with mobiles operating YouTubeand Facebook. Parents instead ofhanding phone to the kids mustinteract with them. Less time shouldbe spent on social networking sites.Children are the best imitators and soelders must set an example by settingtheir eyes on things above and not onearthly things.

Our God is a God who calls peopleto accomplish His work here on earth.Young friends, Jesus has called manytimes and you know it well. Yet youdid not hearken His voice. You musthave said, “NO” or “WAIT”.

Whatever may it be, do not getdisheartened. You can always servethe LORD as you continue your studiesand work in perfect holiness withoutconforming yourself to the filthiness offlesh and worldly pleasures.

1 Peter 2:9: "Proclaim the praisesof Him who called you out of darknessinto His marvelous light".

Young people, since the secondcoming of Jesus is near, let us notwaste time, but step out of our comfortzone to do something for the Lord. Maybe getting up half an hour early andpraying or giving some money to theneedy, food to the hungry and clothesto the needy or comforting the troubledand heart-stricken or visiting a hospitaland praying for the sick ones orspreading the GOOD NEWS etc. Letus use our time judiciously andprepare ourselves for the expansion ofHis kingdom and the second comingof Jesus Christ.

Psalms 37:23: “The steps of a goodman are ordered by the LORD; AndHE delighteth in his way”.

Have you ever thought how muchdeep you are in faith? Are you close toour Lord’s expectations in your life?

You may be doing all the right things-at home, at work, at church - but you don’tknow where your life is headed. You feellost and disoriented from where youthought you’d be and how you thoughtyou’d get there. But it’s almost tooterrifying to acknowledge, so you justkeep going with the flow day after day, without a strong direction toward a placewhere God is moving you.

Jesus tells the church at Laodicea,“Some of you are not hot, you are noteven cold, you are lukewarm”. And theresult is just as disastrous: “There is nolife there. I will spit you out of my mouth [ifI find you in that lukewarm zone]”

Well, there are three questions thatare significant, vital and urgent for you toanswer if indeed you are going toadvance to the next level of spiritual living.

I. Where are you?Wherever you are the answer to this

question is the same: You have to moveup, you are called to greatness.

II. What is the next level for your life? You need to know where you are

going. There is a God-ordained Kingdomdestiny for you - that is your calling.

III. How do you get there? It is only by your Faith, Obedience and

Focus. So wherever you are at thismoment in your life, relax and say: “God,I want to go to my new level now. I amready to move on and move up”. Thenfollow these steps to help you throughthe transition process.

1. Ask God to speak to you. He cancommunicate with you through theScriptures, His written Word. He mayspeak to you through a prophetic word.Be convinced of the call. When Godbegins to take you through the processof change, you must make sure you areabsolutely convinced of His call on yourlife and secure in His purposes as Hehas revealed them to you. If you are notconvinced of your call, then every time

The Next Level of FAITH

you hit a point of discouragement, or adifficulty, you will focus on your problemsand give up. Only a deep conviction ofyour call will enable you to keep goingwhen facing hardship. .

How should you respond when youreceive a word from the Lord throughprophecy?

Look for confirmation. In other words,if a prophecy presents an entirely newthought or idea to you, then receive theword - but “hold” it until its meaningbecome clear to you in the light of theWord of God.

2. Determine how you must change. When God begins to shift you from oneassignment to another , you will gothrough a process of preparation. Thesepreparations are not based on your pastbut must take place in the present. Itinvolves the practical changes you needto make in your life in order to actuallyfulfill the new assignment or the newseason God has for you.

3. Commit to overcoming theopposition. When God begins to moveyou to a new level, the devil wants tomove you backward, OR at least makeyou to stay where you are. One of thegreatest barriers to moving forward to thenext level is being too comfortablefunctioning where you are. Choosing tostay in your comfort zone may mean thatyou never go to the next level. Any form ofdiscomfort is worth overcoming in order

to say yes to the next great thing God hasfor you.

4. Be prepared for increased spiritualattacks. The more you move into God’spurposes of your life, the attacks of youropposition will be harder. You might facechallenges and temptations, more thanever before. But In Christ, you havespiritual armor to protect against theattacks of the enemy (see Ephesians.6:13-18). You also have the weapon ofHis Word, the "sword" of His Spirit. Useeverything available to you as a Christian, and though attacks will come, you willovercome with God’s help.

5. Acceptance. A genuinely humbleperson always accepts andacknowledges what God has done in hisor her life. Be honest about what He isdoing, and give Him all glory. As yousimply trust His wisdom and follow Hislead, your confidence and anointing willcontinue to increase. Do not becomeproud; but neither should you deny whoGod has designed you to be.

6. Remember that transition takestime. Successful transition does nothappen quickly and so determine to bepatient as you move into your newseason.

7. Move ahead with bold faith. Any timeGod is shifting you from one level to thenext, there comes a point at which yousimply must “go for it”. This is a point atwhich faith springs into action andbecomes more alive than ever before. You may know all kinds of concepts andprinciples, but without BOLD faith you willnever step out to achieve all that God haspurposed for you.

Jesus is saying to you: “Come on!Take that step of bold faith. I am readyand waiting to walk with you”.

Always remember, God is faithful. Heis faithful to finish the work He has begunin you (see Phillippians 1:6). Move onand move up. God will definitely moveyou to your next level!

GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth"

(Revelations 3:15,16)

Gospel in all campuses

Mark Gautheir, executive director ofU.S. campus ministry, has begun aprayer movement for God’s Word to beheard in hard to reach collegiate studentbodies across USA. He told CBN News,“The goal is zero campuses without astudent ministry by 2025”. The ministryis teaming up with InterVarsity ChristianFellowship to launch this mission. Thecampaign aims to reach 1,800 collegecampuses with the Gospel message. The campaign website states, “Godloves every student on campus. But,more than half of today’s collegestudents attend a campus where thereis not an active group of Christianssharing the love and hope of Jesus withtheir classmates. We want to changethat”. The movement plans to plant theGospel in every campus in the country, particularly in every campus that has atleast 1,000 students.

It is, indeed, great news. The Gospelis needed to penetrate the present liberalideologies immensely popular among

the student community.

We must salute these brave peoplewho are daring enough to display theirfaith in public!

’Ten Commandments’ Monumentin a shopping mall

An 800-pound granite tabletengraved with the ‘Ten Commandments’went up in a suburban Dallas, Texasshopping mall on New Year eve. RichardMorton, general manager of the MusicCity Mall, told reporters that themonument reflects the mall owner’sbelief system and he is not afraid toshare it”. A second granite tablet bearingtwo “greatest commandments” - to lovethe Lord and thy neighbor - is on thesecond floor. The owner, John Bushman, says, he hopes people find “peace andlove” in the Ten Commandments.Bushman’s other businesses, includinghotels and casual dining restaurants, have similar Ten Commandmentdisplays.

Some non-christians and someatheists have made adverse commentsabout the monuments. But nobody can

remove them or make it a legal issue asthey are in a private property. A shoppingmall operates like a public, communityspace where all are welcome. But it isactually a private space where church-state laws demanding a neutrality towardreligion don’t apply!

China cracking downon religions!

A story by Associated Press describeschurches being shut down, Bibles beingseized and restrictions being placed onother religions, too. One Christiandescribes an incident in which Chineseofficials interrupted a church meetingand ordered them to remove a cross, aBible verse and a painting of the LastSupper off the wall. In recent months,Chinese authorities have shut downhundreds of Christian house churches, seized Bibles, prevented children fromattending church in some areas andurged Christians in one location toreplace posters of Jesus with picturesof President Xi . The goal is to integratethe nation’s religions with “Chinesecharacteristics”, first among these beingloyalty to the Communist Party.

But the Gospel cannot be chained!

Children'sCorner"Let the little children come to me,

and do not hinder them"

C a s s i e was studying in 8th grade and enjoyed m u s i c , painting and

photography. Recently Cassie’s father got a transfer and the whole family moved. Cassie was now in a new school. She had made a few friends and was learning about her new school and the town.

One day at school, Cassie was looking with great interest at the various flyers posted, regarding extracurricular activities at the school. But she was most excited about the field trip her teacher had mentioned in class earlier. Her class was going on a nature walk and she would be able to take plenty of photographs. In addition she was reading about a photography contest in a few weeks where she would be able to display her best photographs

if she chose to. Cassie also thought that she could make new friends when the class goes on a field trip.

In about three weeks, Cassie went on the field trip with her class. As the class walked together from one spot to the next, Cassie made friends. Some of her friends shared her interest in photography and some others in painting. One such friend Betty asked Cassie if she knew Jesus. Cassie did not know Jesus. Soon Betty spoke to Cassie about who Jesus is and about how He can

save each person from their sin. In the following days, Betty shared with Cassie about Jesus and Cassie accepted Jesus as her personal Savior.

Cassie did take a bunch of pictures on her field trip and submitted the best ones for the photography contest. She even made new friends on her field trip. But most of all she was glad she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior. As Cassie read the Bible, she read John 15:15 where Jesus says “I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you”. Cassie realized that she had found a lifelong friend in Jesus. She was also reminded in Proverbs 12:26 that “the righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray”.
