Our Story
The Valley Cultural Center
serves the greater San Fernando
Valley as the prominent resource in
promoting the performing and visual
arts. With the active support and
participation of the community,
our mission is to entertain, enrich,
and educate current and future
generations. We offer diverse
programs and events and recognize
outstanding achievements in the arts.
Founded in 1975 to assist the
Los Angeles City Department of
Recreation & Parks in bringing arts
and culture to the San Fernando
Valley, The Valley Cultural Center
has been at the forefront of culture,
arts, and arts education in our
community for more than thirty-
fi ve years. The Valley Cultural
Center’s Free Concerts in the Park
were launched under the guidance
of our fi rst chairwoman, educator
Lou Bredlow. Now called Concerts
on the Green, our concert series is
still presented FREE of charge and is
enjoyed by more than 150,000
Valley residents each year. First
presented in Shadow Ranch Park,
Concerts on the Green has a
permanent home at the Lou
Bredlow Pavilion in Warner
Center Park. Built on land generously
donated by the Harry Warner family
in 1967, the Pavilion was built at a
cost of $1.3 million dollars, which
includes $1,000,000 from Quimby
funds and $300,000 from The Valley
Cultural Center’s donors.
Today, we hold a long-term lease on
the Pavilion from the Los Angeles
City Department of Recreation
& Parks and the facility is used to
house many of our cultural and
arts activities. The Valley Cultural
Center is actively engaged in
community outreach and our
programs encompass the diverse
cultural, social, and artistic dynamics
of the Valley. A vital community
resource, The Valley Cultural
Center provides arts appreciation,
music education, and arts outreach
for Valley students as well as
programs that support our senior
population. Our many Concerts,
Awards and Scholarships, and Hap-
penings provide rich opportunities
for Valley residents to participate in
and enjoy the artistic diversity that
defi nes our unique neighborhood.
Funding for The Valley Cultural
Center comes from our generous
corporate sponsors, grants, and
our expansive Membership and
Volunteer programs.
The Valley Cultural Center is a
nonprofi t 501(c)(3) organization
supported by corporations,
foundations, and individuals like you.

Community Outreach
Monday Morning Concerts For ChildrenSince 1997, Monday Morning Concerts has placed professional, world-class musicians and dancers in an intimate, educational setting with children, age fi ve through eleven. Monday Morning Concerts consists of a performance, a brief history lesson on the musical and cultural style being presented, followed by a question and answer session with the performers. Often children are invited on stage to be part of the performance. The concerts are FREE and take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park, every Monday throughout the summer.
Finding Beauty P&G Salon Professional and Valley Cultural Center have partnered to fund and design programs that bring the arts and arts education into Valley middle schools. We work with schools to create programs that inspire students to express themselves while setting and achieving high goals. Our immediate purpose is to help fi ll the void created by the removal of arts education during these tight economic times. Our long-term vision is to shape programs and part-nerships with schools and educators that will inspire the next decade’s students to become their best creative selves.

Red Balls Pizza
Redballs Rock & Roll Pizza in Woodland Hills is the love child born between David Vieira and Elliot Easton, guitarist for the rock group the Cars. The two New Yorkers used to bemoan the death of good pizza in their part of the Valley.
The crust is flavorful, yeasty and fragrant, blistered on the bottom with a bit of char and just-crisp edges. The tomato sauce is light, loose and garlicky, the cheeses are good quality and laid on with a light hand so the nearly-naked Manhattan pie is a delicate fusion of layers, not gooey.

Bruce in the USA(A Tribute to BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN)
Concert starts at 6:00 PM A high-energy musical experience and a note perfect, visually accurate recreation of a Bruce Springsteen & The E. St. Band show. Matt Ryan, from the world famous Legends In Concert, played Springsteen for eight years in the “full scale” Las Vegas show. His great success with Legends evolved naturally into Bruce In The USA. His amazing portrayal of “The Boss” (not to mention his jaw-dropping resemblance) makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real thing in concert. Backed by the sounds of Clarence “The Big Man” Clemence and a smokin’ handed “Little Stevie,” Bruce In The USA takes this genre of performance art to a whole new level, making it the world’s #1 tribute to the E St. Band’s legacy.

“Woodland Hillstock”featuring CANNED HEAT and COUNTRY JOE MCDONALDConcert starts at 4:00 PM
Costume Contest at 6:00 PM
Free Kid’s Crafts
Canned Heat rose to fame when Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson and Bob “The Bear” Hite got together in the 1960s to make a new sound. Drawing on their knowledge of the Blues, Canned Heat specialized in updating obscure old recordings into hip modern tunes. Their Top-40 Country-Blues-Rock hit, “On The Road Again,” became a Rock anthem around the world. Their hit “Going Up The Country,” was adopted as the unoffi cial theme song for the famed docu-mentary, Woodstock.
Country Joe McDonald’s album, Country Joe and the Fish, was released in 1965, just in time for the anti-war Vietnam Day Teach-In in Berkeley, CA. He sang one of the great anthems of the era, “I-Feel-Like-I’m-Fixin’-to-Die-Rag” to a half-million people at the Woodstock Arts and Music Festival in 1969. After forty-eight albums and more than four decades as a folksinger, Country Joe McDonald is still one of the best known names from the 1960s.
