If chosen, you will work in a city of approximately 11,300 people nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range and the gateway to Mt. Hood. You’ll have access to all the amenities and activities this provides such as; winter sports, hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, and kayaking just to name a few. As a resident, your children will enjoy beautiful parks and exceptional educational opportunities through the Oregon Trail School District which has gained national recognition for their progressive approach to school safety and education. Sandy Police Department works a 4 day/10 hour rotating schedule with specialty positions to include School Resource Officer, Traffic Officer, and Detective. You will be supported by an administrative team that is constantly striving to use evidence-based practices to provide cutting edge service. MANDATORY MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Must be at least 21 years of age, a US Citizen, or actively becoming a US Citizen. A high school diploma, GED, or its equivalent is required. Possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Oregon Driver’s License. Must have excellent situational judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills as demonstrated by past work history, interactions with others, and testing. Recruits will need to pass the Front-line exam and ORPAT (Oregon Physical Abilities Test) through the National Testing Network (NTN). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS Recruits must attend and successfully complete the 16-week Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) academy and receive Basic Police Certification within one year of hire. CPR/First Aid and valid drivers’ license. Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with others from outside agencies. Reflect and adhere to the values and goals of the Sandy Police Department. DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES Associate or Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institute of higher learning. In state/out of state Laterals given preference. Previous military given preference.Demonstrates ability to actively listen, think critically, negotiate, persuade, apply applicable Oregon law and city ordinances, cultural sensitivity, and proper application of legal theory. Bilingual-English/Spanish. COMPENSATION Hourly $27.96 - $33.23 an hour plus incentives (pending 3% CBA January 2020) Comprehensive benefit package including; medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid vacation, sick, holiday and comp time and PERS contribution. The City also provides a gym membership allowance and the ability to take home vehicle. Represented union position through Clackamas County Police Officer Association (CCPOA).
