ALPHATRAK STARTER KIT

◗ Accurately monitors blood glucose levels in newborn foals

◗ Helps determine the risk of laminitis linked with “Cushing’s disease” (malfunction in the pars intermedia of the pituitary gland) 7

◗ Calculates the risk of diabetes mellitus 7,8

◗ Confi rms insulin resistance linked with equine metabolic syndrome 9

◗ Similar results to those obtained using reference methods 5,10 and more accurate than portable human blood glucose meters 5

FOCUS: on horses

Small volume of blood◗ The smallest sample volume on the market◗ Avoids blood draw: saves time, less stress for the

animal so reduced disturbance of blood glucose

DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR ANIMALSWHY AlphaTRAK?

Portable blood glucose meters use whole blood to measure the glucose levels in plasma. They are calibrated to take into account the distribution of glucose between the plasma and red blood cells in humans. AlphaTRAK accounts for the fact that the distribution of glucose between the plasma and red blood cells changes depending on the animal species being tested 1, in order to provide an accurate and specifi c blood glucose reading.

1 • GLUCOSE IS DISTRIBUTED DIFFERENTLY in human and animal blood 2,3

Comparative studies show that blood glucose measured using AlphaTRAK in dogs, cats and horses is more accurate than when using portable blood glucose meters designed for humans. 4.5

2 • HUMAN BLOOD GLUCOSE METERS ARE NOT SUITABLE for animal health

Extended measurement range ◗ Measurement of hyperglycaemia up to 750 mg/dL

(compared to 600 mg/dL for all the other meters on the market)

Long shelf life test strips◗ 18-24 months, even after opening, for easier

stock management

Blood sampling on the right or left of the test strip

◗ Practical, regardless of how the animal is restrained

Quick result◗ Rapid blood absorption thanks to a specifi cally-

designed test strip which breaks the meniscus of the blood drop

◗ Results displayed in just seconds, and only if there is a su cient amount of blood (confi rmed by an audible “beep”)

◗ Saves time, in particular for creating glucose curves

More accurate than portable human blood glucose meters, as demonstrated by multiple studies 4,5

Inbuilt calibration for each species 1

◗ Takes into account the distribution of glucose in the blood, which is unique to each species covered

◗ Species-specifi c code, allows switching from cats to dogs (no changing of chips)

◗ Multi-species matching: ferret, horse, rat 6, mouse 6
