General Remarks
VHF DF accessory units and VHF DFantenna systems for the HF CathodeRay DF Receiver SiG 638/2 (TELEGONIV) are at present being prepared fordelivery by Messrs. AEG-TELEFUNKEN,These units are designed to cover afrequency range from 20 to 180 MHz.This complete frequency range is sub-divided into two subranges, from 20 to80 MHz and from 60 to 180 MHz re-spectively. A separate DF accessoryunit is provided for each of these sub-ranges. A range switch is required inaddition if both DF accessory units areto be used ahead of the DF ReceiverSiG 638/2.
The VHF DF antenna system is an H-Adcock having two antenna planes
mutually displaced through 90°. Eachantenna plane contains parallel-con-nected dipole pairs which are arrangeddiagonally with respect to each other,so that the complete antenna systemconsists of eight vertical dipoles. TheDF antenna system for the range from20 to 80 MHz uses a base of 1.4 m,whereas that for the range from 60 to180 MHz uses a base of 0.83 m. Thesense antenna rod is in each case ar-ranged centrally with respect to theupper dipole halves.
Applications
The VHF Cathode Ray DF EquipmentPST638-U is suitable as VHF DF equip-ment and for omnidirectional VHF re-
ception, in the frequency range from20 to 80 MHz or 60 to 180 MHz, or from20 to 180 MHz with both ranges com-bined. The DF bearing indication andquadrant display for sense determinat-ion are given on the cathode ray tubeof the DF Receiver SiG 638/2 (TELE-GON IV). The equipment is suitable forDF and omnidirectional reception ofamplitude modulated and frequencymodulated transmissions.
A ferrite HF DF antenna or an HF U-Adcock antenna system with Adcockaccessory unit can be connected ad-ditionally to the VHF DF accessory unit.DF and omnidirectional reception isthen additionally possible in the HFrange.
