Hello Friends!

May is the month when our Viansa vineyards unfurl their brilliant green leaves and our Villa gardens are filled with colorful flowers. Of course, it’s also the month when we set aside a day to honor our mothers. I’d like to take a moment to wish my own mother – and all the mothers in our Tuscan Club family – nothing but health and happiness! We can’t wait to welcome our Tuscan Club members back to Viansa this month and in the summer season to come. We’ve created an array of special events for your enjoyment, from our Mother’s Day Tea to live jazz on the lawn, informative wine seminars and a fun class on planning the perfect picnic. We also have a number of new activities in the works, including guided tours of the Viansa wetlands and exclusive dinners for our Tus-can Club members in cities across the United States (we recently participated in a wonderful event at Aureole in New York City). Stay tuned for more details! Our Marketplace is filling up with all sorts of beauti-ful new merchandise, artwork and gifts so that you – and your lucky friends – can enjoy the Sonoma wine country lifestyle wherever you live. And we’re introducing some delicious new foods to tempt your palate and comple-ment our wines. After months of tasting and tweaking, we’ve finally bottled our very own Viansa Pizza Sauce and Viansa Pasta Sauce. I can’t wait for you to try them! As spring moves into summer in lovely Sonoma Valley, we’re enjoying warm, sunny days that invite our members to linger over a glass of wine as they drink in the magnificent views from our hilltop terrace. Won’t you come and join us?

Wishing you all the best!

Wine Country Lifestyle:

Now that warm weather has arrived, we’re all entertaining al fresco. Whether you’re inviting friends along for a picnic or hosting a traditional backyard barbecue, you’ll no doubt be sharing your favorite Viansa wines! Which wines are best for spring and summer parties? Here are some of our favorites along with suggested pairings!

2009 Viansa GionacciaWith crisp aromas of lemon and lime and delicious flavors of pineapple, guava and ginger, our 2009 Gionaccia is a refreshing aperitif for warm weather parties. A blend of Pinot Grigio, Vernaccia, Arneis and Chardonnay, it’s a nice match for grilled fish topped with mango salsa or skewered prawns brushed with one of our Viansa grilling sauces. Also a great choice with appetizers or an assortment of cheeses. Delicioso! $15 ($20 for non-members)

2009 Viansa Pinot GrigioPinot Grigio is a favorite in Northern Italy because it’s such a crisp, food friendly wine. Try serving it alongside crab cakes, steamed clams or barbecued oysters. It’s also a great match for grilled chicken skewers, pasta primavera or a summer pasta salad with baby shrimp. $15 ($20 for non-members)

2009 Viansa Sauvignon BlancWith lovely notes of lemongrass and melon along with crisp acidity, Sauvignon Blanc is one of our go-to wines for summer parties. Serve it at a picnic alongside chicken Caesar salad wraps or smoked salmon crostini. This wine is also a natural with goat cheese and other light cheeses, so it’s a perfect choice to pair with summer appetizers. $15 ($20 for non-members)

2009 Viansa ChardonnayWe love serving grilled lobster tails with melted butter in the summer months, and there’s no better wine to pair with this rich dish than our 2009 Chardonnay! Its bright and lively aromas and flavors also make it a great match for grilled prawns and sea scallops lightly dusted with one of our Viansa rubs. $15 ($20 for non-members)

2008 Viansa Dolcetto RoseRose is all the rage in Europe, and we are big fans of this dry blush wine as well! It’s the perfect wine to serve chilled at pool parties because it pairs so nicely with a wide array of summer appetizers and snacks. We also love it alongside barbecued salmon with a teriyaki or citrus glaze! $12.75 ($17 for non-members)

May 2010 5

2006 Viansa “Lorenzo” MerlotCrafted primarily from Sonoma Valley Merlot – with a bit of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon for complex-ity – this is great wine to serve with your favorite grilled steak flavored with one of our Viansa rubs or marinades. With delightful flavors of plum and blueberry and well-balanced tannins, it’s also a great match for herb-marinated lamb kebabs. $33.75 ($45 for non-members)

2006 Viansa MerlotOur 2006 Merlot is a tasty blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Teroldego with flavors of black cherry, cedar and spice. We like to pair it with grilled pork tenderloin or lamb chops, but it’s equally at home served alongside the perfect summer cheeseburger. It doesn’t hurt that this wine has won numerous gold and double gold medals! $21 ($28 for non-members)

2006 Viansa PrindeloOur very own proprietary blend, Prindelo is a blend of Primitivo, Zinfandel and Teroldego – hence the name: Pri-ndel-o. With bright flavors of berry and spice, it’s a great choice to serve with grilled meats – chicken, ribs, etc. – slathered with fruity barbecue sauces. Or serve it alongside classic shish kebab! $26.25 ($35 for non-members)

2006 Viansa SyrahSyrah is at the top of everybody’s list of favorite barbecue wines because it pairs so nicely with grilled foods. A blend of Syrah and Primitivo, our 2006 Syrah offers lush flavors of blackberry, pepper and just a hint of vanilla. It’s a great choice to serve with steaks marinated with garlic, herbs and crushed pep-

percorns. Good news: This tasty wine is another multiple award-winner, bringing home two golds and six silver medals! $21 ($28 for non-members)

CrystalViansa Events: Weddings

Crystal Chang and Doug Cohen met and fell in love while dancing at a salsa club. The minute they became engaged they flew to Argentina to dance…and to start dreaming about their wedding! When they met with our Special Events staff, they told us that their special day had to incorporate their love of dance. So it was no surprise when they and the rest of the wedding party danced down the aisle to The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling”!After the ceremony, guests moved up to the terrace and tasting room for a selection of hors d’oeuvres and artisanal cheeses accompanied by our Viansa Pinot Grigio and Athena. As the sun began to set over the Villa and vineyards, guests moved into our beautiful tented pavilion for a magnificent wedding feast. Crystal and Doug enjoyed their first dance as a married couple to a most memorable song: “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” touchingly sung by the father of the bride! And the happy couple ended an unforgettable evening by treating guests to a beautifully choreographed salsa routine. All in all, it was a magical wedding that perfectly captured the bride and groom’s personalities! If you’re planning a wedding or other special event, please contact Brooke Altman at 707-935-2728 or [email protected]. We’ll be delighted to help make your occasion a most memorable one! Cheers!
