SATURDAY, JULY 28. 1888.
REPUBLICAN TICKET.For President,
BENJAMIN HABRISON, of Indiana. For Vice-Preside- nt,
LEVI P. MORTON, of New York.
For Member of Congress, Third Dist..GEO. W. E. DOBSEY.
SENATORIAL CANDIDATES.
The selection of a senator to represent the 30th senatorial districtin the legislature this winter haspractically been assigned to Lin-
coln county. .We have two candi-
dates for the honor, but the nameof only one will be presented to theconvention called to make thenomination. Both are excellentmen; both are men of ability, highintegrity and vitally interested inthe growth, development and pros
perity of the large territory comprising thisilistrict, with a population of over 75,000.
--John I. Nesbitt is tne risingvouncr' lawver of West Nebraska.o 1
.A clear andtiuick thinker, an elo
quent speaker and ready debater, astudent of law and its applicationto civil eovernnient. few men arebitter qualified to fill the high posi
tion to which he aspires. Throughout the district he is well known, and attracted state reputation by
the admirable manner he presided
over the deliberations of the lastRepublican state convention.Three times he has been almostunanimously elected to office inthis county, for two years as Supt.of Schools and he is now servinghis second term as County Attor-ney. Appointed chairman of theRepublican county committee a
year ago, his great executive abilitywas immediately demonstrated by
the manner he conducted the-ca-
paign and unified the party, whichhad before been divided into factions on local issues.
Thomas U. ratterson is one orthe oldest residents of Lincolncounty. Coming here a mere boywhen the countrv was new, he has
1 'grown with its growth and strengthened with its strength. Fortwelve years he was postmaster inthis citv. Alwavs anions the' firs
ml wto suggest an improvement, scarcely an enterprise of importanceihaucrurated but he is among itsmost energetic promoters. Full oflife, industrious, quick to see theneeds of the public, he would mostablv represent the people in the

senate.Between these two men The
TRD3UNE will express no choiceBoth will go before the Republicanelectors of this county at the primary election for endorsementThe one who receives the majorityof the county convention will bethe nominee of the party for senator, and the successful candidatewill receive the hearty support ofhim who is defeated.
Senatorial Committee Meeting.
IS
A letter from H. O. Smith, ofPlum Greek, chairman of the Republican senatorial central commit-tee, says he has called a meeting ofthe committee, at North Platte,August 4th, at two p. m. A. H.Church, we believe, is the memberirom cdis county.
The headquarters of the Republi--can .national uommittee is vi v innAvenue, New York.
Another convert to Harrisonand protection to American indust- -nes. Hugh T. Crockett, a life longDemocrat of this city, has announced his intention to vote for Harrisonand donned the Republican badge.
In a circular letter Secretaryr urnas lntorms us tnat tms yearthe State Fair will be held at Lin-coln Sept.J7th to. 14th; that re-spon- ees
and-- applications for 'accommodations are far in advance ofany preceding year up date; thatmore live stock stalls, pens andspace for agricultural products havebeen engaged; more inquiries madeand correspondence generallydoubled, indicating an increased interest in the fair. As the season ispropitious for good crops all overNebraska and contiguous territory,it is likely the State Fair of 1888will be the grandest exhibition thathas been given under the auspicesof the society.
William H. Grace, ex-Ma- vor ofNew York City, and one of the bestknown and most respected demo-crats in the, whole 'state, has an-
nounced himself as a supporter ofhonesty and Harrison. Here is oneof his reasons as given .by himself:"I have studied the tariff questionfor twenty-fiv-e grears, and I cannotbut support the convictions that Ihave arrived at after so much study.I cannot support free trade, whichhas been tha cause of every greatpanic since 1813. The democraticpolicy now is to claim that the partyis not for free trade, but for freertrade. The claim, is hypocritical. Its platform is but a string of wordswell put tocrether, and intended tooeceire we pcupie.
