FOREWORD

Welcome to the Victorian Land Industry Capability Directory which has been

developed by the Victorian Defence Alliance – Land Systems (VDA - Land

Systems) through a partnership between the Victorian Government and the

Australian Industry & Defence Network – Victorian Branch.

The Victorian Defence Alliance - Land Systems aims to deliver increased capability

to Defence by promoting collaboration and teaming within Victoria’s strong

defence industry.

Major defence industry companies will have the ability to approach one body

within Victoria when focusing their efforts on supply chain opportunities and

defence capability development. VDA-Land Systems provides a unique platform

for networking and bringing together specialist companies to collaborate and drive

innovative solutions for the defence land systems market.

The participation of many leading automotive suppliers in the Alliance reflects the

depth and diversity of Land System capability in Victoria. VDA-Land Systems aims

to become the first choice as a point of call for Primes and governments seeking

the supply and support of advanced defence land systems capability.

CONVOY ESCORTAustralian Light Armoured Vehicles provided security with superior firepower during this 18 hr Tor Ghar journey across the Oruzgan and Kandahar desert.

FRONT COVER : VICTORIAN BUILT BUSHMASTERSoldiers from the Second Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force, patrol

through the Dorafshan, Rud-e in Tarin Kowt. The patrol includes Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles supported by ASLAV Vehicles. Around 1000

Bushmasters were built by Thales in Victoria.

Victoria’s defence industry is world-class and is recognised as a major centre of Australian defence industry capability. It is highly

competitive, both domestically and internationally, with proven capabilities in military vehicle manufacture and support.

The defence industry has been identified as a priority sector for the Victorian Government.

A strong group of manufacturing, design, systems integration, and logistics firms in Victoria offer a range of products,

technologies and services in support of land systems projects and are internationally competitive.

Victoria has a long and rich tradition of world-class research and development and is Australia’s knowledge, innovation

and technology capital with many of the world’s technology and manufacturing

industry leaders establishing R&D operations in the State.

Victoria is also home to the Defence Materials Technology Centre, Defence

Science Institute, Defence Science and Technology Organisation and the

Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.

SUPACAT HMTUK Defence company Supacat’s engineering systems integration

is conducted in Port Melbourne, Victoria to deliver its $130 million contract for HMT Special Forces vehicles to the ADF.

BUSHMASTERDeveloped by Thales and manufactured in Bendigo,

Victoria the Bushmaster project has equipped the ADF with close to 1000 protected mobility vehicles.

G-WAGONSMercedes-Benz in Mulgrave, Victoria continues to

deliver the versatile G-wagon for the ADF to suit rugged Australian conditions.
