Viega. A better idea!

Some things last. Even more than 110 years later. At Viega, innovation and entrepreneurial vision are now more alive than ever before – these success factors date back to the company founders. Today, the Viega Group employs more than 3,500 staff worldwide. Viega is working to continue its long-term success at nine locations. While production is concentrated at its four main sites in Germany, the McPherson/USA group manufac-tures solutions specially designed for the North American market. And the Wuxi/China site focuses on production for the Asian market. The company specialises in installation technology – the constant driver of growth.

Viega has a worldwide reputation for innovations that set standards. Take for example press connection technology, the innovative solution for copper pipe systems. Or the introduction of the SC-Contur for visible inspection reliability in every press connector. With Viega, safety is not just guaranteed upon installation. Viega also offers intelligent solutions for the global challenge of operating hygienic drinking water systems.

“Quality made in Germany” is taken seriously at Viega. Com-puter-controlled, automated production delivers absolutely reliable results. Each production process is monitored by up to five quality checks that guarantee maximum safety. The result: over 17,000 products for almost every type of application. The equation of quality and flexibility impresses planners, architects, installers and builders around the world. Be it res-idential apartments, hotels, hospitals, sports areas or production plants – Viega systems are proven for all buildings and appli-cations.

Colours, tiles, fittings – as far as visual bathroom design is concerned, it all comes down to the customer’s individ-ual taste. Behind the wall, professional expertise is also required. The safety, reliability and custom fit of each sanitary unit ultimately depend on the installa-tion. The quality of the installed compo-nents also plays a decisive role. You need to be able to rely on them – in terms of material, fitting and how they combine to form an overall system. Again, this is something that we see as our duty: to meet the toughest require-ments in everything we do. That means no compromises in product quality and comprehensive system expertise.

Viega system technologyOur core skills, and in particular our wide range of metal and plastic pipe installations as well as our pre-wall solu-tions have enabled us to become one of the most successful brand manufacturers in the industry. For decades, Viega has been synonymous with innovative domestic installations and guaranteed system safety.

11

Easy to calculate: The Viega Steptec complete package (Fig. 4) is available pre-assembled in sizes 1, 3, 5 and 10 m2. Using the simple Width x Height formulation, you can calculate the surface requirement of the construction and, therefore, the size of the right complete package. To find out the necessary track length, simply multiply this result with the track factor (5.5), finished. Example:2.4 m x 1.1 m = 2.64 m2 => a 3 m2 complete package2.64 m2 x 5.5 (track factor) = 14.52 m2 => Three tracks. 5 mThis calculation applies for any surfaces to be covered. Please also note the pre-wall depths!

Simple to assemble(Fig. 1) The trapezoid-shaped connec-tors fit with the system profiles at 90°- or 45° joints, so that depending on the installation conditions the connectors can be assembled on the closed or open side of the profiles. By turning the Allen key, the connectors mesh with the system profiles so that any tensile force or pressure can be easily absorbed. (Fig. 2) The profile is 5 m long, with dimensions of 40 x 40 mm. This sup-porting surface enables the GKFI and Aqua plastic cladding panels to be eas-ily assembled. Additionally, it is possible to make a joining edge of two actuating panels on a single profile.(Fig. 3) With the system-integrated pro-file punches, a clean, burr-free cut can be made – quicker, safer and tidier than using an angle grinder or saw. One advantage: No protective clothing must be worn; no fire safety precautions must be taken due to sparks flying. Nor is it necessary to complete complicated fin-ishing work.

Easy planningTo decide on the materials required for larger units, the free program is avail-able for the Steptec quick assembly. By entering details into a simple table, the materials report “exact connector fit” is compiled for individual pre-walls as well as for entire projects. It is just as easy to obtain a report for data for the rele-vant project with the corresponding assembly drawings or tender texts.

Viega has made the practical assistant for the quick installation of Steptec in larger projects available as a separate software module.http://www.viega.de/ViptoolAssistant

Situation a) 1 First place the corner element in the corner at the appropriate installation height (1130 mm or 980 mm, measured from the finished floor’s upper surface) and align it. Then mark the fas-tening points (A + B and 1-5).

2 Drill holes at the marked fastening points. After horizontal and vertical alignment, fix the corner element in place with the fastening materials provided. Subsequently panel the element with a single layer of GKFI board.

1 First place the corner element at the right height (measured from the upper edge of the finished floor 1130 mm or 980 mm) and align it. Then you mark out the fastening points (A and B and 1–4).

2 Drill holes for the marked fastening points, align and fix the corner element using the supplied fastening materials after you have re-aligned it both horizontally and vertically. Subsequently, panel the element with a single layer of GKFI board.

When necessary, any two Viega Eco Plus corner elements can be installed as a combi-nation. In this case, the two corner elements are fastened together at four fastening points. Each corner element is also fixed in place by both foot supports as well as at four other fastening points.

Situation b) 1 The procedure is the same as for Situation a) 1. However, in this case fastening points 1, 3, 5 and both feet A and B are marked.

2 The procedure is the same as for Situation a) 2.

Situation c) To install the Viega Eco Plus corner element in non-90° corners as well, all you need to do is bend the side fastening shackles 1, 3, 4 and 5, as appropriate. The remaining installation procedure is the same as described in the assembly steps above.

Please note: With this variation, the corner elements’ dimensions may be different. Accordingly, they are not symmetrical.

Viega Mono. Fitting – so Easy, so Precise.

Unrivalled flexibility, unusually straightforwardViega Mono allows individual or series assembly in installation heights of 835, 980 and 1130 mm. The installation heights 1130 and 980 mm are created from the same WC pre-wall block. To do this, the pre-wall block, which is intended for the 1130 mm height, simply needs shortening at the marking. The flexible depth adjustment and low WC pre-wall block ensure exemplary variability. And that is not all. A perfect composite with the wall can be created using integrated wall pockets. Furthermore, the addition-ally sound-proofed EPS housing offers an ideal plastering foundation.

Pre-wall single fitting construction height: 1130 mm

Fix the mounting profile at a height of 320 mm to the wall using screw anchor plugs. Then screw on the WC clip.

Single fitting in the wall construction height: 1130 mm

Fix the mounting profile at a height of 320 mm to the wall using screw anchor plugs. Then screw on the WC clip.

Shorten the pre-wall block from 1130 mm to 980 mm

Series pre-wall fitting construction height: 1130 mm

Fix the mounting profile to the wall at a height of 320 mm using screw anchor plugs. Then screw on the WC clip.

First release the upper and lower parts of the pre-wall block, and remove the flush pipe elbow from its connection piece.

Page 27: Viega Pre-Wall System Brochure

27

Now position the Viega Mono WC pre-wall block on the WC clip and adjust with a spirit level. Just fix at the top end with a screw and a wall plug.

Important: The cistern must be plastered to a depth of at least 15 mm.

And: Brick up the pre-wall block on both sides!

Position the Viega Mono WC pre-wall blocks on the WC clips and align with a spirit level. Now just fix at the top end with a screw and a wall plug.

Position the Viega Mono WC pre-wall block on the WC clip and adjust with a spirit level. Now just fix at the top end with a screw and a wall plug. Important: It is necessary to install a concrete supporting beam above the cistern.

Finally, brick in the recess.

Now both elements can be shortened at the marked point using a normal saw. Shorten the flush pipe elbow by 150 mm as well, and after deburring, simply reposition on the connection piece. Caution: It is essential to ensure that the two O-ring seals sit correctly! Finally, just connect the upper and lower parts, and you’re done.

Viega Pre-Wall Systems: Overview.

* If the ceiling insulation principle is applied, a simple dry cladding suffices. If different pipe and insulation materials are used in the installation shaft, individual approval are to be obtained for these. With the system shafts for Viega Steptec, a solution is offered in the form of an expert’s report by the Materials Testing Institute (MPA) Braunschweig in connection with a declaration of conformity from various manufacturers. Installation with Certified Sound Protection.

Peace and quiet – at home and workThe basic requirements for protection against noise are stipulated in DIN 4109. For advanced requirements relating to noise protection, the parameters of the current VDI 4100 should be agreed. In this, the relevant values are stated, which should not be exceeded in order to comply with the agreed noise protection level. There are three noise protection levels, whereby Noise Pro-tection Level III offers the highest protection against noise. The measured sound levels are based on the equivalent noise absorp-tion surface of A0 = 10 m in DIN 4109. In VDI 4100, the reverberation time T0 = 0.5 secs is used as the reference value.

Optimal Conditions for Damp-Proofing.

Suitable for all usesThe Viega pre-wall systems can be used in all wet rooms. But the choice of cladding panels must be taken into consideration here. In domestic bath-rooms, the Viega pre-wall systems should be covered with GKFI cladding panels. The moisture proofing of the individual connections is explained in the relevant assembly stages. In areas which are subject to high levels of moisture, Aqua-KS cladding panels are used to cover the pre-wall systems. This is made from calcium silicate and is designed especially for this area.

Compliance concept guarantees fire protectionThe compliance concept for Viega Steptec allows the use of all pipe and ventilation systems and enables the greatest possible freedom when planning in terms of the installation. The composition for project-specific pipes and ventilation layouts can be car-ried out easily online at www.viega.de/Uebereinstimmungserklaerung.To do this, the desired system combina-tion is selected in the first step. After the feasibility check and confirma-tion a project-specific declaration of conformity is created for you to down-load – if required, this includes the stored General Building Inspection Test Certificate and Licences (ABP/ABZ). These then only need printing, signing and submitting to the building owner for the building file.

Components with tested fire resistanceIn hotels, hospitals, care homes and old people’s homes partition walls are frequently used between bathrooms for sanitary installations. As well as conven-tional structure the pre-wall systems Viega Steptec and Viega Eco Plus also allow a wall construction with sanitary installation of fire resistance category EI 90 in accordance with DIN EN 13501-2:2003-12 as per the General Building Inspection Test Certificate.

Generation Bathroom in Keeping with Standards.

Mechanical remote actuation

Using the remote actuation, the flush is trig-gered with the help of a Bowden wire via an actuating button 1.7 m away (Fig. 1). That allows the flush actuator to be placed in an easily accessible position

Generation bathroom concept

The diagram shows the configuration of a “generation-friendly WC-system”. A fastening element is mounted on the left- and right- hand side of the Viega Eco Plus WC element, these are later used for the attachment of the foldable support handles. A special tech-

nical feature: As well as using the actuating panel, it is possible to actuate the flush via a radio-controlled actuator fitted into the foldable support handle.

Perfect basis for solutions that meet with the standardsThe term “barrier-free” is used to describe all measures that contribute to a simpler lifestyle for people with physical or mental disabilities due to illness or old age. DIN 18040 regulates this for bath-rooms and WCs in public buildings. It is also possible to make bathrooms and WCs in private households easier to use for seniors by taking a few simple steps. Viega has various fastening elements in its range. The WC elements or WC mod-ules with a construction height of 1130 mm provide an appropriate integrated height level for the fastening of the ceramic. In this way, normal WC ele-ments can be adjusted to a barrier-free ceramic height during fitting; this elimi-nates the necessity of a separate storage space or the need to order special ver-sions. Even the washbasin modules or elements with concealed odour trap help to remove barriers because wheelchair users can manoeuvre their wheelchairs below the washbasins.

Page 39: Viega Pre-Wall System Brochure

39

Direct Connection for the Extraction of Odours.

WC element with odour extractionIrritating odours in indoor bathrooms and heavily frequented WCs can be greatly reduced through the installa-tion of flush bends, which are directly connected to the ventilation system. When the ventilator switches on, the odours are immediately removed, this makes a costly ventilation via windows or vents unnecessary. In the case of Viega pre-wall elements and modules with a construction height of 1130 mm, it is only necessary to replace the fac-tory-fitted flush pipe (see table).

Assembly instructionThe connection of the flush pipe bend to the extension of the individual or room ventilator should be made water-tight up to 100 mm above the cistern – e.g. with HT pipe DN 50, so that con-densation arising can be disposed of via the WC ceramic. Direct connection with Alufex or folded spiral-seamed pipe is not permitted.

Individually Height-Adjustable Viega WC Element:Raises the Comfort Level, Lowers the Barriers.

Whether multigenerational households, care facilities or hospitals – wherever lots of people are grouped together with different requirements, ordinary details can make a major difference. Even seemingly banal things such as the pas-sageway to the toilet. The individually height-adjustable Viega Eco Plus WC element compensates for these differ-ences and can be adjusted at any time to suit personal requirements. At the touch of a button, the seat height of the WC can be raised or lowered to suit. This makes the WC element the first on the market, which works using only a gas pressure spring without any elec-tronics at all. As a result, it can be installed whenever and wherever needed.

41

Boundless Flexibility.

Viega Eco Plus WC element with height adjustable function

The seat height is adjusted by the touch of a button and works like an office chair. When you press the trigger button, the WC ceramic is gently raised using a gas pressure spring by a maximum of 8 cm. If you then also place your body weight on the seat, the WC ceramic will slowly lower. The seat height can be adjusted smoothly between 40 and 48 cm.

Cover panel made of toughened safety glass (model 8356.8)

Easy to combineThe WC element can be combined with any ceramics up to 28 kg and an attachment interval of 180 mm – includ-ing WC ceramics for accessible areas. For heavier ceramics, the on-site fitted pressure spring can be replaced for a strong pressure spring (model no. 8174, item no. 713 652). In addition, the WC element is equipped with the Viega flush-mounted cistern, meaning it can be combined with all Visign actuating panels.

Thought of everythingThe large range of adjustment is pos-sible due to a pre-wall opening behind the ceramic. This opening is covered with a high-quality glass cover panel made of toughened safety glass. This is accompanied for the installation by a seal, the push button for adjustments, the WC connecting set and a plastic cover. To clad the pre-wall opening, the plastic covering is sealed all around with silicone and fixed with screws to the WC element. Then, the toughened safety glass cover panel is fitted with a 5 mm interval to the wall and the crack is closed using the surrounding sealant. When constructing a wall, you must take into account that this can be a maxi-mum of 45 mm. This is equivalent to a classing with two 12.5 mm GFKI panels and a maximum 20 mm wall covering.

Advantages at a glance Seat height individually adjustable for each user.

Possible subsidiesWhen building an accessible bathroom, the question about possible subsidies or support is not wrong. Unfortunately, it is difficult to make blanket statements as the support must be requested indi-vidually. But in principle, there are many opportunities which provide support for accessible construction or renovation.

State support programme KfW support programme 159

Subsequent Height-Adjustable WC Elements.Think of Tomorrow Today.

You can find further information about individually height-adjustable WC ele-ments and the subsidy options on the internet. It is not always necessary to be able to adjust a WC individually each time. Anyone planning a bathroom today will hopefully have no difficulties with low seat heights of 40 cm. But to be pre-pared for age and any eventualities, Viega offers two different WC elements, which can be adjusted retrospectively in height – the Viega Steptec WC module 8461.21 and the Viega Eco Plus WC ele-ment 8161.21. The adjustable range here is also 8 cm and reaches a seat height of 48 cm.

The decisive differenceTo adjust the seat height, the ceramic must be loosened by a specialist. Then, the height can be adjusted and reat-tached. The WC element and ceramic do not need replacing. To cover the adjust-ing area in the pre-wall, an additional brushed stainless steel cover panel is available.

Viega Steptec WC module (model 8461.21) height-adjustment can be retro-fitted.

The principle: Economic water consumption, lower assembly costsWith innovative technology, Viega has long since been focussing on consci-entious handling of water, which is a valuable resource. Noticeable saving potentials are offered by the two-volume flush technology, which allows you to choose between a partial and full flush volume (3/6 litres). Another advantage: The concealed cis-tern can be integrated into all Viega pre-wall systems. The actuating panel is easy to assemble thanks to the Bowden cable technique. Alternatively for water-saving ceramics, Viega Eco Plus WC elements are avail-able with a full flush volume of 4.5 litres and a partial flush volume of 3 litres. In addition, the full flush volume can be increased to 6 litres and the partial flush volume can be reduced to 2.5 litres. For all other pre-wall systems and pre-installed flush-mounted cisterns, Viega offers a conversion kit with a 4.5 litre flush volume.

Variable: The installation positionThe appropriate cistern design is used depending on the installation position in the selected pre-wall elements or modules. The choice is the Viega flush-mounted cistern 2H as a high cistern, 2L as a low installation version and 2C for corner installation. In combination with the non-contact triggered actuating panels Visign for Care sensitive or Visign for More sensitive, the flush-mounted cistern 2H – as per the product classifi-cation system of the European sanitation fitting industry – is awarded the maxi-mum six points from the WELL label in the public sector (Fig. a). This offers environmentally-aware customers a valuable decision making aid.

Individual: The actuating panelsViega flush-mounted cisterns are com-patible with all Visign actuating panels and offer individual solutions and designs. Whether classic manual flush actuation, infrared and sensor technol-ogy or electrical actuation – the different

techniques offer the right solution for any challenge. And with intelligent addi-tional functions, the high demands in public and semi-public sectors are fulfilled. High-quality materials such as glass fulfil the highest demands on design in private bathrooms.

Viega Cistern 2 L:Always the Right Solution in the Right Place.

Viega pre-wall systems can be used diversely and flexibly. But there is not always enough space to install a stan-dard installation height – for example, under a window. In this case, Viega offers the flush-mounted cistern 2L for low installation heights.Pre-wall heights of 830 – 840 mm can be realised with the cistern, depending on the system.

Two in oneNew to this cistern is the option to change the position of the flush. With just a few moves, the cistern can be con-verted from a front-positioned flush to a top-mounted flush. Only the mechanism and clip have been changed on the cis-tern, together with the additional cut-out. They have been adapted in such a way that both components can be used for the front-mounted flush and top-mounted flush.

Small dimensions, great performanceThe Viega flush-mounted cistern 2L has a maximum flush volume of 9 litres and is equipped with a two-volume flush technology that saves water. The full flush volume is set to 6 litres during pro-duction, with the part-flush volume at 3 litres. Like with the Viega flush-mounted cistern 2H, a Viega Eco Plus WC element with a full flush volume of 4.5 litres is also available in the 2L. For other pre-wall systems or pre-installed flush-mounted cisterns, there is also a conversion kit. As with all Viega flush-mounted cisterns, the 2L can also be equipped with all Visign actuating panels and electric flushes.

Quick conversion:

1 Remove covers. Release the mechanism and remove from the cistern.

2 Loosen the fixing of the pull rods to the mechanism.

3 Insert the mechanism at the top, lock into place and connect the clip.

4 Replace the covers on the openings.

Assembly Sets for Tile-Level Installation.

An elegant kind of actuation:Flush to the tilesGood design continues to develop. The Visign actuation designs are also avail-able for flush-to-tile installation of WC and urinal flushes. The actuating panels of the Visign for More series can be fit-ted with the approx. 4.5 mm deep instal-lation frame and the Visign for Style has an approx. 7 mm deep installation frame. Particular advantage: The installation frames can be individually adjusted in depth during assembly in order to adapt to different thicknesses of tile. This means the actuating panels are abso-lutely flush to the wall.

Flush-to-tile use is suitable for Viega Steptec and Viega Eco Plus. An addi-tional functional unit also allows flush-mounted use, for example, of tiles as the flush actuation, as these can be inte-grated into the frame after being cut precisely to size: This allows the highest level of individuality in bathroom design.

49

The sensor is fitted directly in the siphon and is not visible. This secures the tech-nology against vandalism and means it can be installed irrespective of the ceramic design used. The technology is available in the Viega Eco Plus and Viega Steptec range.

The siphon sensor technology has a flush programme, which dynamically reduces the flush volume from 3 litres to 1 litre when the usage intervals are high. This function reduces water consump-tion and is particularly suitable for use in buildings, in which the urinals are subject to intense use for a short period of time, such as cinema, theatre, con-cert halls, schools and stadia.

In addition, the automatic flush activa-tion can be deactivated for cleaning, a manual triggering can be set up or an interval flush cycle can be programmed. Diagnostics can be called up for the system to recognise any malfunctions. This makes the repair and maintenance of the urinal easier.

Urinal siphon with sensor (cross section). Shown from behind/Shown from the front

Manual flush actuation (1)The manual flush is triggered using an actuating panel and is the most fre-quently used technique, particularly in the private sector. A simple press of the button is enough to trigger the flush cycle. To satisfy different customer requirements and the growing demand for design, Viega offers a multitude of equipment sets from the Visign for Style and Visign for More ranges for manual flush actuation.

Infrared actuation (2)Infrared flush actuation offers contact-less comfort and maximum hygiene. The flush is triggered by a control located behind the cover plate and recognises is someone is stood in front of the urinal. When the user moves away from the uri-nal, the flush is automatically triggered. The range and flush volume can be indi-vidually set, thus adapting to the require-ments of the customer. Equipment sets are also available for infrared flush actu-ation for both the private and public sec-tor. The choice ranges from high-quality glass versions for modern bathroom design through to robust metal designs with dual-sided screw fixtures against vandalism.

Siphon sensor technology (3)Siphon sensor technology is a contact-less flush actuation, which offers a mul-titude of additional functions and is also particularly suitable for use in the public sector. A special sensor in the siphon of the urinal registers temperature or flow changes, recognises use of the urinal and then triggers a flush cycle. In addition, the system has integrated odour trap monitoring. The sensor rec-ognises a reduced water seal due to evaporation or back suction in the siphon and automatically triggers a small flush cycle to refill the siphon. The system is supplemented by an over-fill protector.

Viega WC Flushing Technology:Contactless Comfort Thanks to the Electronics.

As well as manual triggering through an actuating panel, the flush cycles can also be triggered using various contact-less techniques.

Sensitive flush activationThe sensitive technique allows contact-less and hygienic activation. The actuat-ing panel registers when a hand is close. Using an actuator, the flush cycle is then triggered with the required volume. The electronics are combined with a low-maintenance and low-wear Bowden

Infrared activationInfrared activation is a contactless tech-nique, which can be used in the public and semi-public sector. The system automatically recognises when the WC has been used due to a sensor in the actuation or cover panel. If someone is within range of the infrared sensor, it recognises them. After a minimum period, a flush is then triggered by leav-ing the range of the sensor. The actuat-ing panels Visign for Public 5 and 6 are equipped with infrared technology. In addition, a flush can be triggered before or after WC use, by placing your hand in front of the infrared sensor. The actuating panel Visign for Public also has the option of differentiating between small and large flush volumes on the basis of a pre-settable period of detection (30, 60 or 90 seconds). Both versions have the Viega Hygiene+ function which can be activated or deactivated if required.

1 The mechanism is replaced for the Bowden cable unit with actuator.

2 The housing with actuator is placed on the installation frame and a manual flush is fitted so that a flush cycle can be activated in case of a fault.

3 The power supply is connected to the control unit on the back of the actuating panel. The cables are placed in the duct. A battery compartment can also be used.

cable and operated either using mains voltage or – for example when retrofit-ting – by battery. The sensitive flush activation is available in all Viega Visign actuating panels with the addition of the sensitive element. Furthermore, these panels also have a Viega Hygiene+ function which can be activated if required.

Viega Hygiene+ functionThe retention of drinking water quality is the top priority, especially in public build-ings with interruptions to usage, such as schools or hotels. With the Hygiene+ con-cept Viega offers the right solution. Looped series or circular installations in combination with Visign for Care actuating panels ensure drinking water hygiene, even when there are interruptions in use.Electronic control of the Viega Hygiene+ flushing system recognises when there has been no extraction of drinking water, independently ensures proper operation, thus avoiding any contamination through stagnation. The flush itself is triggered by an actuating panel with Viega Hygiene+ function. There are several actuating panels to choose from here: Visign for Care sensitive, Visign for More sensitive and Visign for Public IR, or for urinals the equipment sets Vision for Public IR and Vision for More IR.

Electronic activationAbove all, accessible homes and hospi-tals and care homes must be equipped with flush actuators which are easy for their users to reach and operate. The electronic flush actuator offers decisive advantages here. It can be controlled and triggered with several signals – individual solutions for the accessible WC are easy to realise. The core of the system is the control unit. These can be controlled and the flush triggered using various signals –such as radio signals, light barriers, motion detectors, buttons or make con-tacts. And simultaneous and parallel switching of the signals is easy with the help of an extension cable adaptor. The electronic flush activation can be used in Viega concealed cisterns and in com-bination with all Visign actuating panels. An appropriate mains connection in the pre-wall should be planned.

The principle of lightnessThrough the clever use of materials such as glass and metal, Visign for More con-veys a sense of lightness, which is expe-rienced immediately during use. It is possible to actuate a flush more simply, and in addition without touching, with the Visign for More sensitive actuating panels.
