This former capital of Indochina was once known as“Paris of the Orient.” Today, Vietnam’s largest city is an industrial,cultural and educational hub, but still retains vestiges of its colonialpast. After checking in to your hotel, the rest of the day is at yourleisure. Dinner is on your own this evening.

October 29 - HO CHI MINH CITYToday you will enjoy a city tour that explores such famous landmarksas the former Presidential Palace, a photo stop at the Central PostOffice and Notre Dame Cathedral. You will also visit the WarRemnants Museum, one of the city’s most popular touristattractions, known for its vast collection of artifacts from theVietnam War. Finish with a visit to the Ben Thanh Market – one ofthe oldest and most iconic structures in Ho Chi Minh City, where youcan search for local handicrafts, colorful textiles, as well as otherunique souvenirs and gifts. October 30 - HO CHI MINH CITY – EMBARKATIONToday you will board your river cruise ship moored at My Tho Port.Meet your fellow travelers at a Welcome Dinner as the ship cruisesto Cai Be. (B,L,D)

October 31 - CAI BE – SA DECAfter breakfast, take an excursion in a local boat around Cai Be tosee the spectacular floating market. You will also have anopportunity to visit candy and rice paper workshops. An afternoonexcursion takes you to Sa Dec, a sprawling town on the MekongDelta, where French writer Marguerite Duras spent part of herchildhood. You will visit the local market, Cao Dai Temple and thehouse of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le, Duras’ Chinese paramour. The shipsails overnight to Tan Chau. (B,L,D)

November 1 - TAN CHAU – BORDER CROSSINGThis morning, you’ll visit Tan Chau, a small Mekong River townunspoiled by tourism. You will have the opportunity to take one oftwo tours this morning. Your first option to is take a traditional “xe-loi” (trishaw) ride around the town, with stops at a silk-making,slipper and rattan mat workshops. Alternatively, you will take a boatride through the narrow channels of the Mekong River to severalscenic locations, including a small village known as “EvergreenIsland.” Return to Tan Chau, where you will visit a workshop thatmakes rattan mats in the village. You will cruise to the Cambodianborder after lunch, stopping for border formalities. The shipcontinues sailing overnight to Phnom Penh. (B,L,D)

November 2 - PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIAThe ship cruises into spectacular Phnom Penh, the capital ofCambodia, early this morning and docks at the terminal. Thismorning you will take an excursion to Cambodia’s infamous KillingFields and also visit the Khmer Rouge’s grim Tuol Sleng S21detention center (Genocide Museum) just outside the city. Afterlunch on board, your afternoon tour explores the highlights of thecity, famous for its French colonial architecture, busy cafés andcolorful nightlife. Visit the Royal Palace, the spectacular SilverPagoda and the National Museum, which has an outstandingcollection of Khmer crafts. After returning to the ship, enjoy Khmerfolk dancing performed by local children in the Saigon Lounge. Theship will moor overnight along the waterfront, close to restaurantsand Phnom Penh’s vibrant nightlife scene. (B,L,D)

November 3 - PHNOM PENH – KOH CHENThe morning is free to explore Phnom Penh on your own, perhapsventuring to nearby shops and markets for some souvenir huntingor an opportunity to take a Tuk Tuk tour through the city. In the latemorning, the ship continues to Koh Chen, where you will take aleisurely walk through the village and visit home workshopsspecializing in silversmithing and coppersmithing. (B,L,D)

November 4 - OUDONG – KAMPONG TRALACHYour will have a truly memorable day today, starting with a shortmotor coach ride to Oudong, the former capital of Cambodia. Visit aBuddhist monastery and receive a special blessing. In KampongTralach you will enjoy an oxcart ride through the rice paddiessurrounding a small village. (B,L,D)

November 5 - KAMPONG CHHNANG – TONLE SAP LAKEThis morning you will take a motorboat to explore the lakesidewetlands that form around Tonle Sap Lake, the great lake thatdominates Cambodia and is known for its stunning variety of birdlife and tranquil floating villages. November 7 - SIEM REAP – ANGKORAfter breakfast, you will have a guided sightseeing tour of theAngkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Highlights include Angkor Thom, the newly restored BaphuonTemple, Terrace of the Elephants, and the Terrace of the LeperKing. You will also see the Bayon Temple, best known for itsgigantic smiling stone faces. This afternoon, travel through therural countryside to visit the pink sandstone temple of BanteaySrei, the "jewel of Khmer art." Afterwards, you will visit an English-language school sponsored by AmaWaterways in a nearby village.(B, D)

November 8 -SIEM REAP – ANGKORThis morning you will visit the most iconic of all Angkorian temples,Angkor Wat. This intricate and massive temple complex was builtby King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century to honor theHindu god, Vishnu. The temple stands as a masterpiece of Khmerarchitecture. Afterwards, visit nearby Ta Prohm, known as the“Kingdom of Trees” for the way in which the temple stones havebecome intertwined with thick forest vegetation over the centuries.Dinner is on your own this evening.
