WELL DONE EVERYBODY!

Great Fire of LondonYear One have been very busy in their topic lesson this week. They have been looking at the Great Fire of London and how it began. They have learnt that the fire began in a bakery on Pudding Lane when the baker left some bread to burn. To show their understanding of this the Rugged Racers have made bread and the Blue Bots have made the Great Fire of London houses to represent where the fire began. They even recycled old cereal boxes for the activity which shows our Eco team are being effective in their pledge for us to recycle!

Fairy tale CastleReception have also been enjoying playing in their new Fairy tale castle which is in the role play area. They love manouvering the drawbridge which lifts up and down, just like a real bridge. They have been acting out lots of the fairy tales which they have read in class and have also been creating their own stories too. This has encouraged their writing skills and lots of children have been choosing to write stories, all starting with ‘Once upon a time….’. I’m sure they would love to re-tell a well known fairy tale to you at home too!

Additional Contacts / CollectionsWe have recently had a concern that some relatives / family friends have been arriving to collect children without school being informed. Unfortunately, for safeguarding reasons, we are unable to send children home with anyone other than those that are written on their contact list which has been signed by parents. Parents can change this at any time and

there is no limit on the number of people who can be included, however we do need their full names and contact details. If you wish to change your contact detail form, or check the details on it, please pop in to the school office. We appreciate that occasionally somebody different needs to collect your child in an emergency, if this happens, please e mail the office giving their full name and giving your permission for them to collect your child.

Drop in Session by Nuffield Health As we begin the New Year and all think about New Year’s Resolutions, we have organised a drop in session for parents to pop in and talk to a health professional from Nuffield Health and gain advice on healthy living. They can also chat about any minor health concerns or issues which you may be experiencing with your child and can offer advice or support or pinpoint the correct method of gaining this. The professionals will be available from 8.30am until 9am in school on Monday 6th February. Nuffield professionals will also do a special assembly for the children about healthy living at 9.15am so if you are not able to drop in to, please do chat to your children about what they have discussed. Please do not hesitate to contact the school office if you would like any further information. Sainsbury’s Active Kids We would appreciate Active Kids vouchers from Sainsbury’s. They will begin giving these out from the 25th January. Please put any collected into the collection box at the school office. School council are looking forward to spending them already!Teaching Positions We are currently advertising for three additional teachers to join us next September as our school grows and we add an additional year group to our school family. If you know anybody who might be interested in working at RFPS, please do point them in the direction of our job adverts on our school website, on WM Jobs or in the TES. The closing date is Monday so there is not much time left to apply. We will be inviting shortlisted candidates in to school to meet our children and do our short lesson with one of our classes so you may just hear your children talking about new teachers over the next couple of weeks. Inspire Workshop Next Friday, 3rd February, there will be an Inspire workshop for Year One children and their parents based on English. Our Inspire workshops are always a great opportunity for you to enjoy sharing your child’s learning and seeing what they are doing in school. Please do try your best to come along. We will start about 9.15am. Coats, P.E. Kits and Uniform It is very important, now the weather is colder, that your child has a coat with a hood with them every day. We sometimes let the children go outside if it is a little drizzly so it is important they have a hood to keep them dry. Also, children do need to have their blazers in school at all times please and be in full school uniform including sensible school shoes. If you would like your child to wear boots or wellingtons walking to school, please could you help them change these on the

playground benches as they arrive at school to save them taking these into school. They cannot wear these in the classroom for safety reasons. It is also absolutely crucial that all children have a named indoor and outdoor P.E. kit which is kept in school at all times. Thank you in anticipation for your support in ensuring your children are fully prepared and ready for school. Parents EveningWe are offering a gentle reminder that all parents evening letters should be returned ASAP, this ensures the teachers are able to distribute time slots efficiently.
