Co-operative movement has made tremendous progress in every aspects of the Indian economy. Huge numbers of cooperative societies have taken birth in the country over the time to boost the cooperative movement and so is developed the NPO sectors. As per my view this expansion has not yet achieved its optimum level and there still lie an enormous scope for their development in our country. We, Chartered Accountants, as a watchful guardian have huge responsibility on our shoulders for making sure that the policies formed, rules made by the Government are being duly complied with those charged with the authorities and the fund involved is going in it deserving hands.Knowledge is the key to success also to render quality services we’ll have to keep ourselves abreast with the latest happening around the globe professional field. Keeping in view the need of the hour to develop members of our Institute in these two more important fields Committee for Cooperatives & NPO Sectors has come up two separate courses ‘‘Certificate Course on Cooperatives” and “Certificate Course on Not-for-Profit Organizations (NPOs)”. The key feature of the “Certificate Course on Co-operative” is as follows:

1. Covers all the relevant statutes pertaining to cooperatives.

2. Cover the state specific laws pertaining to cooperative societies.

3. Management, Accounting, Auditing, Taxation of Cooperatives.

4. Latest development in cooperatives to equip the members with necessary tools and techniques

imperative to render quality services.

5. Income Tax, Service Tax, VAT, Stamp Duty Provisions etc. applicable to cooperative societies & NPO

sectors, as the case may be.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 for the regulation of the profession of Chartered Accountants in India. During its 64 years of existence, ICAI has achieved recognition as a premier accounting body not only in the country but also globally, for its contribution in the fields of education, professional development, maintenance of high accounting, auditing and ethical standards. ICAI now is the second largest accounting body in the whole world.

About the Committee

The Committee for Co-operatives and NPO Sectors is a non-standing Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India formed under the regulatory provisions of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949. This Committee was formed in the month of February, 2011 by the Council, ICAI. Committee deals with the two major sectors i.e. Cooperatives and NPOs. Cooperatives are Commercial entity whereas NPOs are the organizations that use surplus revenue to achieve their goals rather than distributing them as a profit. The Committee has been constituted to identify issues and opportunities in the Co-operatives and NPO sectors and equip members and other stakeholders to find a new niche for themselves and as well as maintaining and developing the core competencies in the Co-operatives and NPO sectors. Committee also, has taken various initiatives related to CSR in line with Companies Act, 2013. With a view to create competent Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) professional the Committee has formed a CSR Cell.

State Task Forces

The Cooperatives is the state subject and to the much extent NPO also. Keeping in view the state specific requirements of these sectors, committee constitutes State Task Forces (STFs) for various states/union territories of the country. State Task Forces (STFs) work towards identifying the issues of these two sectors that are required to be taken up to and resolved by appropriate authorities. Further, they also aim to identify the new professional avenues for Chartered Accountants in cooperatives & NPO sectors within the state. Functional Task Force

Committee has got its various forms. With the view to serve the sector effectively and efficiently the committee has decided to form functional task forces. These task forces shall look after following forms of Cooperatives:

Urban Cooperative Banks, Cooperative Housing Societies, Cooperative Credit Societies, Primary Agriculture Credit Societies, Cooperative Sugar Societies, Dairy Cooperatives, Textile Cooperatives, Consumer’s Cooperative Societies, Multi-purpose Cooperative Societies, and Multi-State Cooperative Societies.

About the Courses

The Committee conducts two courses, 1. ‘Certificate Course on Co-operatives’ and 2.‘Certificate Course on Not-for-Profit Organizations (NPOs)’. These courses are the premier educational event for the professionals. Being a part of these courses and taking advantage of all they have to offer and enable you to keep pace with changes; and raise your awareness, understanding, and knowledge of best practices and innovations in profession today more particularly to Co-operatives and NPO Sectors.

All sessions will feature experts to give you the most up to date information on new regulations and legislation pertaining to co-operatives and NPO sectors that will impact the professional work. Experts will outline strategies to help you to adapt to the transition to the changes in auditing, taxation and accounting. Course Duration: The duration of course is six days, six hours per day. Classes will be held on Saturday.

ExaminationCandidate who successfully attends 80% classes shall be eligible for appearing in exams. After successful completion of the classes candidates will be eligible to sit in the exam. Exam shall be on last Saturday and Sunday of each quarter i.e. four times in a yea. Passing marks shall be 40% in each subject and 50%, in aggregate, of the total marks. Each paper will be of 100 marks. Candidate who successfully attends the classes and qualifies the exam shall be awarded with the certificate in this regard.

Professional Credit36 CPE hours credit in the completion of the course.

FacultyEminent faculties from professional fields shall be invited to take the classes and share their experiences with the participants.

When to register?Registrations are open throughout the year for batch starting at different places of the country. For more detail regarding registration please contact Committee Secretariat.

How to register?Candidate may send duly filled registration form to the Committee for Cooperatives & NPO Sectors either by online or by post. Registration form is available in this prospectus. Registration form may also be downloaded from www.icai.org and www.cconpo.icai.org. Form should be sent only after it is duly filled in with the details required thereat and is accompanied with requisite fees.

FeesRs. 7,500/- per member for those who have not completed 5 years of membership as on July 1st, 2014.Rs 10,000/- for others

Cheque/ DD shall be drawn in favour of “Secretary, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India” payable at New Delhi.
