The Equality workat

Vikbolandets preschools

Equality workSchools must produce equlity plans that are

followed up every year.• Prevent discrimination• Promote equal rights

Discrimination• Sex• Transgender identity or

expression• Ethnicity• Religion or other belief• Disability• Sexual orientation• Age

Where did we start?• We believe that a key success in order to get a long-term and

sustainable development is to involve everyone in the process.

• We have to add both knowledge and time in order to have all persons ”on board” in this journey.

• We needed to come to a common understanding of various concepts.

February 2014Pedagogues from each preschool gets education at DO (Equality ombudsman), a government agency.

May 2014Every team gets an introduction to the work against

discrimination and harassment in preschool• Which preschool do we want?• What norms and values stands our preschool for?• What norms can we identify in our preschool?• What happens if someone break prevailing norms?• How can we work to change restrictive norms?

September 2014Survey for all persons working in our preschools

• Are all children included in the group, are there children who are outside?• Are children ostracized by other children?• Is there a hierarchy in terms of children´s popularity?• Have all children confidence in preschool staff?• Are there a jargong among children, parents or staff who may be

perceived as derogatory or disrespectful?• Does it happen that a child gets derogated or unfairly treated by any

employee?

October 2014All staff have a skills development day along with educators

from DO (Equality ombuds man).

• Parents gets education during parents meetings.

• Preschool managers interviewing groups of children (3-5 yeras old).

• Parents respond to a questionnaire.

How do we continue?

• Knowledge and common understanding was our first piece of the puzzle.• Second pice was the thoughts from staff, children and parents.• The third piece is to observe the activities and the daily work based

on the questions in the questionnaire.• The fourth piece is to compile our observations

November 2014• Observe the activities and the daily work based on the questions in

the questionnaire.

• Compile our observations.
