On Saturday, April 14 faculty, staff, sponsors, coaches and student-athletes gathered in the Vikings Gymnasium to celebrate a year of accomplishment. While it was a year to celebrate many of the great team accomplishments over the year including two champion-ships banners; it was also a time to recognize individual excellence. Teams distributed their Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year awards followed by 7 major athletics awards. These major award included Volunteer of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Dr. Roger Epp Scholar Athletes of the Year, Community Coaching Recognition, Vikings Coach of the Year, Leadership Award, and Athlete of the Year. The evening was also a night to look back on the years event in a photo slideshow provided by Pro Sport Photography. It was also a time to say farewell to two long time coaches Joan and Hans Skinstad. In all the evening was one of celebration and a chance for student athlete to get out of their gym gear and into semi formal attire. Here is a list of this years team awards and major awards:

Balancing the books… Sleep, eat, classes, group projects, studying, team practice, strength training, travel, com-petition, eat, sleep, repeat… Not all days are like this, but our student-athletes, on average, dedicate 21 hours a week to training and performing in their chosen sport. Add in weekend travel to competitions, athletic therapy, and involvement in community initiatives and there is little to no time re-maining to take on part-time jobs to offset the costs of attending university. Financial assistance is crucial to the continuation of the proud tradition of sporting and academic excellence at Augustana. Invest in our athletes and their dreams will become reality. On Friday, March 30 Vikings Athletics could finally say that the 2011/212 season has come to and end; and what a season it has been. Vikings Athletics, faculty, staff and a proud Vikings Nation gathered in the forum to celebrate this years many accom-plishments with cake and coffee. This year Vikings athletics boasted 5 teams in the ACAC playoffs, bringing home medals on the both the National Biathlon and Cross Country Skiing stage, and capped off the season with not one but three Championship ti-tles. Vikings Athletics was further recognized with 14 ACAC All Conference players, 3 All Canadians, and 1 CCAA All Canadian.
