Chickie grew up in San Francisco, the second eldest of six children born to Jack and Mary Hayes. Home life brought great joy to Chickie’s childhood, and much of that joy revolved around her

two sisters and three brothers. She credits a friend named Valerie and her beloved brother Austin as two people who made an indelible impact early on. Chickie attended Notre Dame des Victoires Elementary School from kindergarten through sixth grade, and can still vividly recall the bus rides to and from their family home on 32nd Avenue.

After completing her primary schooling, Chickie and the rest of the Hayes household relocated to the South Bay, and she would next make a leap to Notre Dame High School in San Jose, CA. Chickie was a popular

student, and eventually went on to become both student body class president and captain of the girls’ basketball team. Her years of instruction concluded at San Jose State University, where she earned a degree in education. This degree was quickly put to use as Chickie landed a job teaching first grade in the coast side town of Pacific Grove. She taught just one year, but smiled widely as she described how her first-grade class won the Annual Butterfly Parade downtown.

However, an extended teaching career was not to be. Chickie had first met Marvin Langholff while the two were in college, and his proposal of marriage soon after was far too appealing to pass up. Marvin was a decorated U.S. Army pilot who flew several dozen missions over Germany during World War II. After they were married in 1947, Marvin began his stellar career in accounting, culminating in his appointment as comptroller at Santa Clara University until his retirement in 1979. Marvin was the love of Chickie’s life, and together they raised three girls and twin boys. “Nothing means more to me than motherhood,” Chickie stated.

The family settled in Willow Glen and became parishioners at Saint Christopher’s Catholic Church. Chickie carried on the family tradition by venturing up to San Francisco with the children each year in order to see Santa Claus, dine, and spend time together on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. It seems fitting that Saint Christopher is the patron saint of travelers, because Chickie and Marvin made a staggering twenty-seven trips to the Hawaiian

Islands. Kauai was their favorite. Many years after Marvin’s passing, Chickie married longtime family friend and former Santa Clara University Alumni Director, Dick Morrisey. They shared four wonderful years together before Dick’s passing.

Chickie Morrisey has lived a life full of family, faith, and fortitude. She remains an avid sports fan, a voracious reader, and an accomplished wordsmith. She is considerate and grateful, and as kind a human being as one could ever hope to meet. “Chickie has this ability to make you feel as though you are the most important person on earth when you are with her,” says son-in-law, Bill Delaney.

Not only do these words accurately reflect her character, but they remind us that meaning is often found in the simplest of things.

“No one person is any more or less important than the next,” Chickie recently explained. “We must stay humble.” Ultimately, it is Chickie’s sense of humility that continues to be her gift to all of us.

Thank Youto our Villa Siena Foundation Donors!

We are truly thankful for all the individuals, businesses, and organizations that supported our ongoing mission of the Villa Siena Foundation during 2019. We will remember your generosity in our prayers during the year.

“How very grateful we are to all the persons who generously support the ministry of the Daughters of Charity at Villa Siena! In serving our residents, the last thing we want them to worry about are their financial resources being depleted and then having to leave. It is the ongoing generosity of our donors, like you, who provide the security and peace of mind for our residents and their families so they don’t have these concerns. We feel extremely blessed to have such caring supporters as partners in our ministry at Villa Siena. Thank you and God bless you!”SR. JUDITH LYNN GARDENHIRE, D.C.

“Because of your generosity and support, the residents and their families have received the gift of peace of mind. Secure in knowing that they will always have a home, even when their finances begin to dwindle, ensures that they will be able to fully participate in and enjoy the blessing that is Villa Siena.

On behalf of the Villa Siena Foundation Board of Directors – Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!”ANNE KEARNEYCHAIR, VILLA SIENA FOUNDATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS

As attendees arrived at Monte Carlo Night they were greeted by members of The Rat Pack, had a chance for

a picture beside a fancy 1934 Pierce Arrow classis car, and were welcome by a well-dressed and friendly doorman who escorted them along the red carpet and through the “Welcome to Monte Carlo” sign.

Reflecting the theme, Villa Siena’s courtyard was transformed into a potpourri of attractions and activities including a Rat Pack performance stage, casino and game areas, car displays, Monte Carlo bar, and more.

The Crowd enjoyed great food and drinks. Featured cocktails at the 007 bar included: Million Dollar Manhattan, Black Tie Tini, Monte Carlo Cosmo, and Monaco Mystery Mule. The Villa Siena Dietary Staff served wonderful food in a fine dining setting that included delicious appetizers, salmon, prime rib, sides and great desserts.

While being entertained by the Rat Pack, attendees played Roulette Pong, 007 Nerf Poker, or casino games, winning a variety of prizes. Both the cash and prize raffles were successful, the grand prize for the evening being a Las Vegas Vacation at the Bellagio Hotel.

Proceeds from the fundraiser went towards the Villa Siena Foundation mission of supporting our residents who outlive their financial resources. Our thanks to all the donors, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees for making this event a huge success!

CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR OUR RESIDENTS The Villa Siena Auxiliary hosted their annual Christmas Party for the residents. Santa and Mrs. Claus made their special appearance and the Auxiliary members hosted the refreshments of mini bundt cakes and drinks. The Auxiliary members also presented gifts of a 65” flat screen TV with sound bar and blue ray to our NCU residents and a new sound bar and blue ray to our ALU residents along with a delicious box of chocolate candy to each resident. Everyone sang along to Christmas songs that the Harmonikatz Band played. It was a most joyous event to end the year.

SACRED HEART COMMUNITY SERVICE Villa Siena staff helped distribute Christmas gifts at the Sacred Heart Donation Center. This is an event that Villa Siena participates in every year.
