Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences was established in 2000 when a binary system of higher education was adopted in Lithuania.
Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences (hereinafter – VK/UAS), emerged on strong roots – the three best higher schools in Vilnius: Vilnius Higher School of Electronics, Vilnius Higher School of Economics and Vilnius Higher School of Business were combined into one entity. After the study programmes were created and approved by external evaluators at a national and international level, the aforementioned Higher Schools merged into one entity and obtained the status of a College of Higher Education (Kolegija).
Currently VK/UAS is one of the largest professional higher education institution in Lithuania. VK/UAS offers 45 study programmes in all fields of study. Experienced and highly skilled teachers maximize the development of active and creative personalities – they have already prepared over 29 thousand graduates for entering the world of work. Besides degree studies, VK/UAS organizes professional development courses for specialists of different areas of study.
The most impressive employment indicators of graduates and the highest acceptance rates of entering students show that VK/UAS is the best university of applied sciences in the eyes of students and employers.
VK/UAS is in active cooperation with its social partners as well as Lithuanian and foreign higher schools. It is also a member of numerous international associations and networks. Students and teachers gain valuable experience in the Erasmus Exchange Programme and other international programmes. This helps VK/UAS graduates successfully fit into today‘s competitive labour market.
VK/UAS provides each student with the opportunity to develop his/her creative learning approach and personal growth in the student-centred learning environment. The core values of VK/UAS are these: competence, respect, tolerance, sociability, positiveness, social responsibility, reliability, spiritual togetherness, creativity and innovativeness.
Thanks to all who have chosen Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences as their Alma Mater. I am confident that this is the beginning of the road to success.

practical trainingStudies at VK/UAS are oriented towards practical training: it covers more than one third of study time.
VK/UAS Centre „SIMULITH“ – the only centre in Lithuania, which joins together and coordinates the activity of over 50 business simulation firms of practical training located all over the country.
VK/UAS students carry out their practices in more than 400 enterprises and firms located in Lithuania or abroad.
Practical training is carried out in the following institutions:
24 practical training centres – the Veterinary Clinics, Decorative Plant Nursery, Cosmetology Room, Beauty Salon, Fashion Studio, etc.;
5 practical training firms – „VIKO Bankas“, „VIKO Drauda“, „Miglė“ (selling confectionery products and organizing events), „Vilionė“ (tourism, selling leisure and tourism goods), „Agro bitės“ (greenery design);
55 well-equipped modern laboratories.
VK/UAS strong point is labour-market oriented practical training. I feel assured that this helps VK/UAS bring together enterprising students who know how to embrace problems or challenges. These young people are inquisitive - they seek to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills required by the evolving demands of labour markets. In my opinion, openness to experience and seeking for knowledge are distinctive features of VK/UAS graduates.

Being the largest employer of your graduates, we are concerned about the quality of studies at VK/UAS. More than 70 percent of nurses of Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių Klinikos are the graduates of the Faculty of Health Care of VK/UAS. Most of them are highly – skilled specialists who continuously deepen their knowledge in various professional development courses and give presentations at conferences and seminars; they have excellent patient-centred communication skills, willingly share their professional experiences with their younger colleagues and are acknowledged as great teachers. Practical skills of VK/UAS students, their competence and communication skills are considered our common concern, which can be achieved through effective communication.

careerGraduate employment – 95 percent (according to the data of the Lithuanian Labour Exchange, 2015).
Considering the social survey of 2014 carried out by AB „Primeconsulting“ – the employers trust VK/UAS graduate skills more than those of other 13 state colleges.
In 2014, six months after completing studies, the employment rate of VK/UAS graduates was 9 percent higher compared to other colleges. A year after completing studies the average salary of VK/UAS graduates was 8 percent higher compared to the graduates of other colleges (Career Information Management System, 2015).
professional deVelopMentEvents of non-formal adult education are organized for the public and business sector target audiences – health care, pre-school education, agriculture, finance, accounting and bookkeeping specialists, sign language interpreters and translators as well as specialists of other fields of study. The Centre of Continuing Vocational Agricultural Regional Training offers its services to farmers.
Each year adult education is obtained by more than 2 000 adult learners.
student lifeEach Faculty has Council of Student Representatives and Science Fellowships.
Students can participate in the Song and Dance Ensemble „Voruta“ and „Želmuo“ and the Girls Choir „Vaidilutės“.
The Fitness and Sports Centre organizes training sessions and competitions in many different sports.
Students volunteer in Animal Care Organizations; each year they participate in Blood Drives and Campaigns for Environmental Protection as well as organize Charity Events.
I am content to admit that VK/UAS students willingly seek to gain not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills. We can boast students‘ technical knowledge and encourage them to be active, show initiative and provide proposals and comments. We want to encourage students to seek for theoretical and practical knowledge and have a higher sense of self-confidence, because we help develop their professional skills. Long-term relationships and cooperation with Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences are based on effective communication – employers and teachers participate in common projects, the content of study programmes regarding Hotel and Restaurant Business is continually renewed considering business needs, student organizations invite employer representatives to meetings and their final thesis defence. VK/UAS students are amazing – helpful, inquisitive and motivated. During hospitality events VK/UAS students are irreplaceable helpers. The heads of hotels and restaurants, in which graduates carry out their practices, have a high opinion about VK/UAS students. The Association together with the Faculty of Business Management of VK/UAS have taken a commendable initiative – students write final theses on commission and perfectly cope with the tasks raised. Their final theses are of long-lasting value.

internationalizationThe Exchange Mobility Programme agreements are concluded with more than 200 foreign higher schools form over 30 countries.
More than 1 500 students have participated in the Erasmus Programme and studied abroad or had their internships there, the number of incoming students from overseas exceeded 300.
More than 700 VK/UAS teachers and employees had their internships in foreign higher schools.
More than 400 teachers of foreign higher schools came to VK/UAS to share their experience.
7 study programmes are taught also in English.
Each year 40 foreign students choose to study the whole study programme at VK/UAS.
MeMBersHipVK/UAS is a member of the European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (EURASHE), the European Space of Higher Education in Management and Business Administration (SPACE) and the European Universities of Applied Sciences Network (UASNET).
It participates in the activities of the European Network of Physiotherapy (ENPHE), the International Network of European Institutions of Higher Education Specialized in Teacher Training (COMENIUS ASSOCIATION), the Network of innovative teacher training universities and colleges across Europe (ILITE), the European Association of Music Academies and Schools (AEC), CDIO Initiative – an innovative educational framework for producing the next generation of engineers and the European Multi-Country Veterinarian Training (VETNNET).
VK/UAS Centre „SIMULITH“ is part of the global network „EUROPEN PEN International“.
VK/UAS is one of the founders of Visoriai Information Technology Park and both a member of the Vilnius Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Crafts INFOBALT.
Vilniaus kolegija/University of Applied Sciences has asserted its leading position among other higher schools of the country.
The Forum on the Knowledge Economy (2007) acknowledged VK/UAS as one of the most advanced higher education institutions of the year in the sphere of innovation management, „... which generates new knowledge in its environment and fosters the development of human society“.
