PRE-KINDERGARTEN NEWSLast week we started the Jolly Phonics/THRASS Program. We have identified many words starting with and s and a sounds, read the Jolly Phonics big book, listened to the Jolly Songs and formed the ‘s’ and ‘a’ letters. We created some spiders to go in a web and some apples on “Mr Brown’s Magnificent Apple Tree”. The children have been developing their fine motor skills when building with Duplo, using tongs to pick up corks, playing with play dough and using the computer mouse! We have mixed yellow and blue play dough and paint to make the colour green (midori in Japanese) and developed our cutting skills while cutting out a diamond shape to make a kite. We thank all our specialist teachers for their interesting and stimulating lessons and we look forward to our Teddy Bears Picnic next week! Pre-Kindergarten EventsWednesday March 18th: PK3 Teddy Bear’s Picnic in the Pre-Kinder playground.Thursday March 19th: PK2 Teddy Bear’s Picnic in the Pre-Kinder playground.Tuesday March 24th: PK2 Princess and Pirate Party! KANGA CRICKET

All Saints’ Kanga 9s played against RUCC Copeland on Edgell Oval, ASC on a damp and cool Saturday morning. As RUCC were short of players

at starting time, we started our bowling innings first. There was a marked improvement in the ASC fielding this week. Despite the slippery conditions, we managed to contain a talented RUCC team with accurate relay throwing and on-pitch bowling. Impressive bowling figures were recorded by Baxter Killiby with a fantastic 2/7 and Connor Stahl with 1/9. Our batting was slow to get started on Saturday and we paid the price for some indecision in running between the wickets. Our top scorer for the day was Connor Stahl, belting an impressive 17 runs. Player of the Week was awarded to Connor Stahl. As well as great cricket skills, I was really pleased with Connor’s team work. He backed-up is teammates throughout the game and was constantly positive about other team member’s performances. Top stuff, Connor. Mrs Jo Nicholls

10 YEARS CRICKET The Under 10’s cricket team played Portland on Saturday on home ground. It was a very exciting match with both teams very equally matched. Fielding first we put in an incredible effort, with some fantastic catches and very precise run outs. Chasing quite a large number of runs, the boys did a great job chasing, with quite a few boundaries. In the end it all came down to the last ball. Well done boys, but perhaps the best thing of the day was the comments from Portland commenting on our excellent sportsmanship.

Maggie Walsh Thomas Martin - Player of the Match

11 YEARS CRICKET This week we had a great week playing cricket. Congratulations to Gus Rendall and Tom Siede scoring 50s each in a 100 run opening partnership. Also well done to Jonah and Jono not out with 16 partnership. Well done to Hamish (2 wickets), Jono (1 wicket) and Hugo (2 wickets). A big thanks to St Pats Green for an amazing game, the score total for the day was ASC 155/0 and St pats 6/47. We look forward to finishing next week. Players of the match were Gus and Tom.

And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. (John 3:14-15, NRSV)In order to get the full benefit of this Sunday’s gospel reading (John 3:14-21) we need to read Numbers 21:1-9. Here we find the Israelites journeying through the desert on their exodus from Egypt to the Promised Land. What should have been a journey of under a month took 40 years as the people constantly rebelled and complained against God. Their sin had brought judgement in the form of poisonous snakes. The Israelites were firm in their view that their sin was the cause of

problems and dangers. Realising that they needed to come back to God the Israelites asked Moses to pray for them. Moses was instructed by God to make a bronze serpent and hang it from a pole. When someone was bitten by a snake they looked at the hanging serpent and lived. This is rich in symbolism that helps to explain what was going on in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. We recall that it was the serpent that brought sin into the world, tempting Adam and Eve to rebel against God and eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The serpent that Moses made was dead, symbolising the death of sin. Moses had it raised on a pole so that all who looked at this death would not die from their sin but live. When we come to the cross we see this action repeating but in a more lasting way. Jesus was nailed to the cross to take

the punishment for the sins of the world. By looking upon his death and seeing it for what it is believers see the death of their sin. But it doesn’t end there. The resurrection of Jesus shows his victory over death. Death no longer has the last word. Sin and death have been conquered by Jesus and he passes the benefits of his action onto us. Jesus confirms this in his own words, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” (John 3:16). May we all accept what he has done for us.With every blessing,Rev. Tony Card.Thought for the week: ‘Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.’ (John 3:17, NRSV)
