Steve Forbesopened the innings on day onespeaking on the rise of China asa new power and its future rolein the world economy. "A lot ofpeople think the world is comingto an end," said Forbes. "It isnot, I assure you. Wiseentrepreneurs, the ones whoknow how to manage balancesheets and have an eye on thefuture, only see opportunities."The publishing empire that heruns, started by Scottishimmigrant BC Forbes in1917, is now worth over US$

1 billion, led by the flagship Forbesmagazine and the money spinning Forbes.com website. SteveForbes has run for the President of the USA twice, in 1996 and2000. That has elevated him to the role of business guru and elderstatesman, and he is a close confidant of most Western leaders. He has launched Forbes Arabia out of Dubai, and has becomefamiliar with the region's wider business issues. He insists that talkof the current boom leading to bust is unfounded as Arabgovernments have been smart enough to diversify their economies."The key thing is that a lot of economic infrastructure is being putin. This goes beyond physical real estate assets. It's the brainpower. Places like Dubai have made themselves hubs for all kindsof activity. When you go beyond the headlines there areopportunities," adds Forbes emphatically. He has won the prestigiousCrystal Owl Award a record four times. It is formally given by theUSA Steel Corporation to the financial journalist whose economicforecast has proved most accurate.

Eleven years ago Time magazine ruined Steve Forbes hopes ofthe Republican nomination by running a special issue tearing aparthis plans for a flat rate of tax across the USA. That same magazineis now advocating the benefits of a flat tax rate. Like many of Forbesother revolutionary ideas in 1996, they were dismissed then butare being embraced now.

Justin Hughesspoke on High Performance Teams, and howconsistently world class performance can bedelivered with a constantly evolving team, making performance independent of specificindividuals. He is Managing Director of MissionExcellence, a team of former Red Arrows, fighterpilots and training experts who now specializein the development of outstanding leadership, teamwork, and execution skills for corporateteams across a broad spectrum of sectors.Mission Excellence uses a variety of modelsand techniques based on processes andbehaviors proven in both training and operationalroles in the unforgiving world of military fast-jetaviation. When it comes to multi-functional teamsoperating under pressure, Mission Excellencedelivers clear direction on what works and whatdoesn't.

Hughes flew the Tornado F-3, the RAF's frontlinedefense fighter aircraft, for 6 years, taking partin both training and operational deployments allover the world, including support of US peace-keeping operations, and was qualified to leadany scale of mission. In 1999 Hughes wasselected for the Red Arrows where he servedfor three years performing over 250 displaysworldwide.

He has no intentions of running for the WhiteHouse again, seeing his role in politics now asan agitator, focusing on the virtues of persistenceand remedial education.
