Summer with Hawaiian LuauMore than 30 residents of Melville Towers – a 320 unit

apartment home community in New Bedford – recently celebrated the end of summer with The Big Kahuna Musical Interactive Tropical Luau Show. Funded by MassHousing’s Tenant Assistance Program, The Big Kahuna party featured Hawaiian themed activities including Hula lessons, a limbo contest and live music.

Lobster & Clam Bake at Zelma Lacey HouseMayor Marty Walsh, community leaders, special guests, residents, employees, family and friends attended the 2nd Annual Lobster & Clam

Bake hosted by Glendale Dining Service and Zelma Lacey employees. The ice-cream truck arrived curbside to end the day with a nice sweet treat.

Bedford Veterans in Detroit at Golden Age Games - Our Own Olympian!Alva Alvarado, Bedford Green resident took home Gold, Silver and Bronze in her 50 backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. We are so very proud of her.

Market Mill Youths Enjoy Day at McCoy StadiumYouths at Market Mill Apartments who participated in the NEAHMA poster contest enjoyed a day at McCoy Stadium to watch the PawSox in action. A barbecue lunch was sered

and everyone tye-dyed their own shirts prior to the trip.

PPI Residents Win 6 Scholarships Out Of 27 Awarded In New EnglandThe NAHMA Educational Foundation awards 6 PPI residents with a $2500 scholarship each. They are Paulette Ford, Camfield Estate; Jacqueline Furtado-Cole, Mt. Pleasant Apts.; Audrey Gagne, Bixby Brockton; Christina Johnson, Billy Kan and Kelseigh Ryan, Mishawum Park. The NAHMA Educational Foundation has awarded more than $931,500 worth of scholarships over the life of the program.

Smoke Free Housing UpdatePeabody Properties has implemented smoke-free housing policies at more than 45 Peabody managed properties with an additional 18 properties currently transitioning for a total of 5,200 units to be smoke-free. The benefits of a smoke-free community includes:

Nearly 5,000 entries were submitted to this year’s National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA)’s annual AHMA Drug-Free Kids poster contest with 3 national winners from Peabody Properties residents! Charlesview Residences’ Winnie Mei was the grand-prize winner. This amazing accomplishment earned Winnie the cover spread of NAHMA’s 2017 calendar, an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for NAHMA’s fall meeting in October and a $2,500 scholarship from the NAHMA Educational Foundation. Equal celebratory enthusiasm goes to Yusuf Ibrahim at Charlesview Residences and Jean Mistretta at Linwood Mill.

Congratulations also to our NEAHMA regional award winners, Hula Khalifa from Charlesview Residences and Johnny Torres at Pynchon/Edgewater Apartments. The theme of this year’s calendar is “Words That Heal: Stop Bullying, Spread Kindness.” Congratulations to all winners & participants!
