Rossall Point – The observation tower on Rossall Beach is open to the public to learn about the local coastal environment, bird and plant life. The ground floor gallery has information about the area and seasonal displays. There are two observation decks for bird watching and taking in the stunning views -

across the Irish Sea and Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland fells and the Forest of Bowland. Family events run throughout the summer season. For a special birds eye view before your visit take a look at our webcam situated on the Mount.

Fleetwood Museum – A Grade II listed building designed by Decimus Burton in 1938. The museum tells the story of Fleetwood, its cargo trade, ferry passenger services , salt mining industry and its development as a holiday destination. There is a rooftop camera which gives the visitor panoramic views along Fleetwood’s shore and the Wyre Estuary. There are a range of events, tours and family activities throughout the year. Farmer Parrs Animal World and Fylde Coast Agricultural Museum – A great day out for the whole family. Memorial Park - A seven hectare Grade II listed park. The park was created in commemoration of the First World War and is a rare example of early 20th century architecture, being one of only a handful of listed war memorial parks and gardens in the UK. Take a walk around the newly restored pond, stream, rose garden and woodland area.

Fleetwood Marsh Nature Reserve -If you’ve not got the urgeto head off into the opengrassland in your wellies, then take to the marsh’s pathways and explore ponds and wetlands to take a look at the huge range of wildlife here. You’ll even discover a disused railway track that has been taken over by scrub and wildflowers. Marine Splash - An exciting new water play area and café designed to keep children entertained on the same site as Fleetwood Leisure Centre. Youngsters can splash through fountains, water jets and water tunnels and a paddling area is also included. Did you Know?You can walk or cycle the length of the Fylde Coast along the promenade from Fleetwood on to Cleveleys and to

Blackpool (approximately 11 miles). The journey is very flat in the main, with stunning views across theIrish Sea right along its length.

Skate Bowl - Unique to the Fylde Coast, a sunken skate facility that was introduced to Marine Gardens in spring 2015. Rather than traditional ramps commonly found at many other sites, users will find a sunken bowl with varying heights of up to 6ft and a series of hips around the perimeter. It has been created to suit both beginners and the more experienced, and is multi-functional for skateboards, scooters, bikes or skates. Knott End to Fleetwood Ferry - This first official foot passenger ferry service began operating in 1894, as a vital link for visitors and locals between Fleetwood and Knott End. Thornton Cleveleys is made up of two towns that complement each other well. Cleveleys is abustling, modern seaside resort, with a great range of shops, cafes and restaurants to enjoy. The Market Cross, Fish Slab, Whipping Post and Stocks - All these stand in the Market Place and are rare items from Poulton’s past, which date between the 17th and 18th centuries. The stocks and whipping post are reminders of the punishments wrongdoers might have suffered in yesteryear.

Lancaster Canal - The Lancaster Canal is navigable for 41 miles and winds through some of the most spectacular scenery in the North West of England. Garstang High Street - This small market town is a true mixture of the old and the new. Its historic buildings and medieval weinds are set amongst

Garstang Market and Market Hall - Garstang’s market dates back to the early 1300’s before the days of Edward II. The Market Cross at the top of the High

Street is one of the most familiar landmarks in the area. The traditional weekly outdoor market is held every Thursday. This popular market stretches the length of the High Street, offering a variety of stalls offering everything you need from children’s clothes to plants and household goods. Walks - Garstang is the starting point for a diverse range of walking routes through beautiful pasture and woodland at the edge of the River Wyre and the picturesque towpath of the Lancaster Canal.

The ‘Wyre Way’ is a long distance recreational route, which links the sea at Morecambe Bay with the Forest of Bowland, passing through Garstang. The local riverside walk, a circular trail suitable for all, links the Discovery Centre with the riverside picnic area, the Garstang Millennium Green and the River Wyre.

The countryside rangers lead a variety of short and long distance walks linking the Lancaster Canal, Forest of Bowland, surrounding countryside and neighbouring villages.

3. Follow the track until it ends at a gate and stile. Cross the stile into a field and bear right, diagonally across the field, to a footbridge.

4. Cross the footbridge and follow the left field boundary to exit the field at an open gateway onto the riverside path (alternatively use the narrow ladder stile through the hedge on the right).

5. Turn right and follow the riverside path. Cross two stiles, then go through a metal kissing gate, and on over another two stiles (ignore the concrete steps and footpath off to the right at the second of these stiles), to where you

see a pedestrian gate on the right at the bottom of the banking.

6. Go through the gate and follow the right hand field boundary away from the river to another gate near some farm buildings on the left.

7. Go through the gate and walk up the farm access track to the main road.

8. Cross the main road, turn right along the A586 Garstang Road. At the footpath sign turn left into Small Lane. Turn right onto Back Lane and then take a left turn to return to the village centre.

Getting hereBy Train – Poulton railway station is on the main Blackpool North line. Buses can be caught from here all over the borough if you’re staying further afield.

By Road – rural Wyre is on and around the A6, accessed from Jct 32 or Jct 33 of the M6. Coastal areas are via Jct 3 of the M55. We have an abundance of car parks, many of which are free. wyre.gov.uk/parking

Getting Around

By Bus – Frequent and late-night services connect the towns of Poulton, Cleveleys, Thornton and Fleetwood with Blackpool (blackpooltransport.com). Try traveline-northwest.co.uk to plan a route. Timetables and cost effective tickets for three and seven day travel are available from our visitor information centres.

By Tram – a modern light rail system is the quickest and easiest way to travel along the coast.

By Ferry – it takes minutes to sail across the Wyre estuary from Fleetwood to the picturesque village of Knott End. Cycles and dogs are welcome. See wyre.gov.uk/ferry for sailing times.

By Bike – there are a network of cycle paths.Check out discoverwyre.co.uk/things-to-do/cycling-routes-in-wyre for ideas and maps.
