By Tallulah Reiser, 11.6 If you have been at CAA before, or you just some- how know this, then you know that the shirt color (spelled “colour” in the UK, Canada, Ireland, Aus- tralia, New Zealand and probably some other coun- tries too) changes every year. Last year, the shirt was a sorta turquoise color. The year before that...I don’t know, I wasn’t there. Anyway, this year, the shirt color is a sorta purple-ish color. But the question everyone’s asking (well, I don’t know if everyone is asking this question, but I’m assuming so) is what do you, as a camper, think of the new shirt color? So, I asked the newspaper staff what do they think. Two people don’t like it, and someone (who will remain name- less) said they thought it should be red. Also, a lot of people said they like last year’s color better. Yeah, I can see their point. Overall, I think this year’s shirt color is a success for most campers. We will see what color next year brings. The Meaning of Violet By Ian Podniesinski, 11.5 As you may have noticed, the CAA shirts this year are purple. Violet, to be more precise. Somebody once told me that purple was the color of royalty, and that’s why it was their favorite color. Livescience.com says this on the subject: “The color purple has been associated with royalty, power and wealth for centuries. In fact, Queen Elizabeth I forbade anyone except close members of the royal family to wear it. Purple’s elite status stems from the rarity and cost of the dye originally used to produce it.” This raises the question: who picked the shirt color, and did they know about its relation to royalty? A reliable source tells me that the other option for the shirt’s color this year was mint, but purple was more popular--and thus, purple was chosen over mint. Tomorrow I will ask Suzanne if she knew about purple being a symbol of royalty. To be continued...

Conclusion:

So, after some research, I concluded that a majority of people like the new color of shirt. Two people don’t like it, and someone (who will remain name-less) said they thought it should be red. Also, a lot of people said they like last year’s color better. Yeah, I can see their point. Overall, I think this year’s shirt color is a success for most campers. The Meaning of VioletBy Ian Podniesinski, 11.5

As you may have noticed, the CAA shirts this year are purple. Violet, to be more precise. Somebody once told me that purple was the color of royalty, and that’s why it was their favorite color. Livescience.com says this on the subject: “The color purple has been associated with royalty, power and wealth for centuries. In fact, Queen Elizabeth I forbade anyone except close members of the royal family to wear it. color, and did they know about its relation to royalty? A reliable source tells me that the other option for the shirt’s color this year was mint, but purple was more popular--and thus, purple was chosen over mint. Tomorrow I will ask Suzanne if she knew about purple being a symbol of royalty. To be continued...

Why Skittles?By Meara Maulik, 9.7

Today, I interviewed Suzanne about why she chose Skittles to be the camp candy. This is her totally un-expected answer.

Me: Suzanne, can I interview you about why Skittles are always the candy you give out on birthdays and as prizes? Are they your favorite candy?

Suzanne: I actually don’t like Skittles. My favorite candy is chocolate, but chocolate is mostly manufac-tured in factories that also produce nuts. One year, a camper in Kids Club had a birthday and his mom came in with cupcakes that had little Reeses Peanut Butter Cups mixed in. One little girl almost had a bad allergic reaction, and the camper’s mom felt really, re-ally guilty. I said, “It’s ok-- we will just have a new policy: we will give the kids treats on their birthday ourselves!” And no one is really allergic to anything in Skittles, and they’re not manufactured in nut fac-tories...so that’s what we chose! There--that’s my long answer.

A History of the White Tube

By Ella Cardillo, 9.0, Vivienne Weinberg, 11.1, and Morgan Raum,

InternThe infamous white tube was manufactured in the

depths of the Californian gold mines in the year 1850. St. Madeleine Sophie Barat crafted it with her own two hands out of gold before the mine exploded. She had time to save only two things as she fled the scene: the golden tube and the blueprints for a mansion in New York.

St. Madeleine Sophie Barat settled in New York City on the Upper East Side in 1881. After building the mansion, she hid a secret treasure somewhere in the building. When she became elderly, she converted her mansion into the Convent of the Sacred Heart to secure her legacy. She stuck the blueprints of the home into the tube in order to hide the location of her secret treasure: hundreds of packets of skittles. She installed the tube as column outside in order to help prop up the roof. To disguise the gold, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat painted the tube in order to disguise its true value.

Since the founding of the Convent, the tube has mysteriously gone missing a total of twelve times. Experts believe the tube to be cursed. In fact, it has shown up in various hiding spots around the school: shrunken inside a book, hidden inside a doll’s mouth in the middle school, on the roof of the building, in a guitar on the fifth floor, and in a vending machine. The last time it went missing, it was gone for a total of one month before it reappeared right where it had last been seen. Now the tube has gone missing AGAIN. It was last seen on June 28th, 2017, on the first day of counselor orientation at the annual Creative Arts & Athletics summer camp. Was it stolen? Or is it truly lost? To be continued...

Apprentices: The CIT-ITsBy Timothy Schachner, Apprentice, and Theodore Servedio, Apprentice

This year at CAA, you may or may not have noticed a few teenagers roaming the halls of the building like they own the place (don’t worry, they don’t, so the camp is safe). Anyway, they don’t seem as ancient as CITs or Interns, but they also seem too big to be campers, so many campers aren’t sure what they truly are. Well, we--Tim and Theo--are both Apprentices and we aren’t quite sure either. We are not yet CITs. More like...CIT-ITs (Counselors-In-Training-In-Training). Basically, as rising sophomores in high school, Apprentices have the responsibility of helping out in three classes and are allowed to take three classes as well. In the past, there have been some great Apprentices, especially the great (now Intern) Wyatt. The Apprentices this year are Theo (who “wrote” this article), Tim (who ACTUALLY wrote and edited this article), Hanna, Dylan, and Adam. Say hi to us :) We won’t bite.

What Class Are You Most Excited For?

Poll by Inaya Shariff, 11.3, Georgia Lupinacci, 12.4, and Riya Mahtani, 12.8

Yesterday was the first day of CAA! We were wondering which classes the campers are most excited about so we went around to a few classes and asked. Here is what people said.
