Eng’g Bares Progress of Brgy Dologon Water Supply System Study

The College of Engineering reported its modest accomplishment for its one-year extension project entitled “Evaluation of Barangay Dologon Domestic Water Supply”.

This extension project is a collaborative extension project of the Departments of Civil Engineering (CE) and Agricultural Engineering (AE) approved in June 2010 until May 2011, which aimed to improve the water supply services of Barangay Dologon under the Community-Based Sustainable Development Program (COMBASUDEP) of the University Extension.

The college coordinated with LGU Dologon and Staff of Maramag Water District (MWD) on July 5, 2010 to discuss matters related to the operation of Dologon Water Supply and presented the scope of the project. Fortunately, representative from Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), Engr. Wilfredo Cruz, together with the MWD Manager, Ms. Rosemarie D. Agustin and Engr. Mamerto Mecisamente were supportive of the project and promised to give assistance through the availability of its operation engineers during the ocular survey of the water system. Specifically, Study I identified three water sources: one spring and 2 pump sources; and conducted ocular survey and inspection of the areas at the vicinity of the water source last August 19, 2010 and found that sugarcane, corn, and fruit trees are planted in the area; collected water samples during rainy days by installing rain gauge at the spring source on October 9, 2010 to measure actual rainfall, and collected two water samples on October 23-25, 2010 with the assistance of the water district watchmen. The water samples collected were brought to the College of Agriculture Soils Laboratory for analysis. Additional collection of water samples and rainfall, survey of water users, and collection of secondary data on barangay population were done in December 2010.

On the other hand, Study II completed the ocular survey with officials of the water system on August 6, 2010 with the participation of the Project Leaders and six faculty members of the CE and AE Departments, two officials of the MWD, four Barangay Kagawads, five AE students (PSAE members). The group started the evaluation from the source at Mahusay

Prof. Baja, College Extension Coordinator headed the CMU team with other CHE faculty members and ND students.

no less than 1,000 children have benefited since the introduction of the Systematic, Unrestrained and Recreational Enhancement of Sports (SURE Sport) in 1991. The Extensionists are banking on the community-based support especially from the parents and supporters of the recipients. As of this period, there are 11 CMULHS football players, three are graduating, namely: Gerry Opiso, Jo Patrick Mabelin and Ian Arriesgado. CMU welcomes all of them, including other products of the College of Education‘s football development extension program, to enroll in any courses commensurate to their qualifications. The College is also endowed with a good Laboratory High School with competent teachers headed by Dr. Virgencita B. Caro, who assures the footballers of quality learning experiences for their tertiary education.

CMULHS Booters on the Go

The CMU Laboratory High School (CMULHS) Football Team recently joined three football festivals and reached the championship games in Davao City and Montevista, Compostela Valley Province.

CMULHS sent 14 U football players to Tionko Football Festival on August 21, 2010. With 19 other teams in the Mindanao-wide football meet, the CMU “A KIDS” garnered second behind its former Del Monte Cup’s runner up, Ateneo de Davao Football Club. The CMU team was composed of Kyell Andrei Labay, Sedgwick Rafael Pabalolot, Kerby Mansueto, Che Marben Cedenio, Gene Rae Alovera, John Joshua Balucan, Jomar Odtohan with BG Ramos III as captain. This 2-1 win of the Eagles is the only match won by the Davao City-based football club since 2005.

In addition, selected CMULHS booters joined the CMU Varsity Football Team in the Men’s Open-2nd Division Category on a 9-side Kadayawan Football Festival on August 29, 2010. The hard fought 9 a-side competition of 20-top caliber teams in different Mindanao-wide Football Clubs/Associations resulted to a very tight match between CMU A-KIDS Varsity and General Santos City – Cotabato Football Club, ending in a 2-0 match. The Ryan Buenaflor-led team never allowed a single defeat from any of its opponents. Before going home Engr. Ronnie Balandra, playing coach, requested all the CMU players to thank God and humbly carried the championship trophy to Musuan, their homebase.

In the championship match on September 4, 2010, between the Montevista FC and the CMU-ULHS A-KIDS, the former won by a slim margin, 2-1. The long journey and the round–robin hectic game schedule wore out the Musuan-based football campaigners in the final match but the very happy and enthusiastic coach, Engr. Balandra, was simply smiling and gave “high fives” to his ward. “I am very satisfied with the performance of our boys in all their games. The 8-hour journey was not funny when we all knew that the festival was intended for the ‘tough invited teams only”, he quipped.

The College of Education Extension Program for football development is now considered as one of the most successful CMU Extension projects;

Advocacy on Alternative Medicine

Lectures on Alternative Medicine were conducted at the University and Extension Ground during the 4th day of the 6th Annual University Extension Week on November 25, 2010 with 42 faculty, staff and students as participants.

Mr. Rudy Obsioma, former Manager of New Student Village, now Lawaan Student Village with Ms. Eden D. Tejada, a CMU staff of the office of Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) gave the lectures which focused on curing cancer without surgery, chemotheraphy or radiation, Adam and Eve diet for cancer patients; how to do the coffee enema, reversing Type II Diabetes naturally, removing goiter without drugs or surgery and the use of Electronic Zapper to kill parasites, germs, bacteria, viruses and chemical pollutants.

This activity was facilitated by the Techno-Demo Services Unit as part of the 6th Annual University Extension Week celebration.

the same time serve as partners of the program. She stressed “that progress for ourselves can be attained from within our own selves, so we should be willing to accept new changes for development and when others or the government introduce programs, all of us should cooperate.”

Moreover, Hon. Ceballos thanked the different entities which united for the same cause. He especially thanked the parish priest inasmuch as Fr. Paciente’s heart is still with Dologon and Musuan communities.

As an impression from the parent, Ms. Teresa Villarosa expressed her thanks on behalf of other parents for all the entities who sponsored this feeding program. She promised to support and hoped that the program will be successful in improving the health of the children.

62 Pupils Avail DSAC-CMU-LGU Dologon Feeding Program

The University Extension Office with Local Government Unit (LGU) Dologon, Diocese Social Action Center (DSAC), Malaybalay City and the Department of Education (DepEd) Maramag District 2 launched its feeding program on November 25, 2010 with 62 beneficiaries from Musuan and Dologon Elementary Schools.

In this program, representatives of the four entities signed the MOA. They were: Rev. Fr. Danilo T. Paciente, Social Action Center, Diocese of Malaybalay ; Ms. Rejynne Mary I. Ruiz, In-charge, Dep Ed Maramag District 2; Dr. Judith D. Intong, Director, CMU Extension and Hon. Miguel Ceballos, Punong Barangay, Barangay Dologon, Maramag, Bukidnon.

Ms. Ruiz, who gave the overview of the feeding program, expressed thanks and gratitude to the people who responded to the co-partnership for the six-month feeding program. She explained that the partner-agencies tried their best to look food for the children. With this, she requested every parent to help in the cooking of food as scheduled.

Further, Fr. Paciente, Sumilao parish priest, stressed that all the entities involved in this program for the pre-schoolers and school children of Dologon and Musuan, have a common objective of helping our youth to become more productive. Partnership leads to greater accomplishments for the children. Fr. Paciente traced the cause of hunger to poverty, scarcity of food, laziness and bad governance among others. The solution for malnutrition are in the hands of the parents. He encouraged parents to establish mini market in the household by planting malunggay, tanglad and others instead of buying these from the market since they have land, hands and feet. “If others help the children then the more parents should also have the responsibilities to care for their children,” he challenged the parents.

On the other hand, Dr. Intong emphasized on the value and importance of life and dignity. “Food affects our health and future so that our entry point of this program is the youth as Dr. Jose Rizal said that the ‘youths are the hopes of the fatherland’. Dr. Intong elaborated that the government has a good feeding program for pupils but parents have the role to encourage their children to participate and at
