Excitement at the Village

What a wonderful July we experienced at the Village. The Fourth of July party at the Ramey Center was a fun patriotic day of celebration. (Continued from main cover) Companies, like ours, participate in BLI by sending their employees to learn about getting involved in the community, networking within the community, industry, the City and County government, local education, and health care. Participants in BLI are given tours of various industries, educational facilities; they are required to attend school board meetings, City Council and County Quorum Court meetings and attend classes every other Wednesday morning for half a day. BLI starts with a retreat in September and ends in March with a Chamber banquet. The Chamber and local volunteers who give so much of their time should be commended for their dedication to BLI. This is also a huge commitment from Companies to allow employees to take time from work to attend. Participants in BLI must make a commitment to attend and work with their fellow class members. Each graduating class works together to raise funds to pay for a community project. Our BLI class of 2008-2009 has elected to have two projects: to restore Nelson Park on Division and Chickasawba streets with new playground equipment, a pavilion, and parking area and a Welcome to Blytheville sign coming into Blytheville on Highway 18 (see picture front page). These two projects are a work in progress. Our class is very proud of our accomplishments but I want to remind you that there were many BLI classes before us and there are visible signs all over the community showing just how important BLI is to our City and County. If you get the opportunity, please tell the Chamber how proud you are of their dedication to your community. Kendall is keeping it exciting during the month of August. We are off to see the Redbirds play ball early in August and then we have an overnight trip to Little Rock to visit the Clinton Library and much more. We are very excited about the enthusiasm residents have shown about recent trips. This is why we are so happy we have contributions being made toward the purchase of a vehicle. The bus fund is beginning to grow and with everyone’s help, we hope to have our own Westminster Village bus in the near future. Besides the trips this month we have water aerobics, exercise class at the Ramey Center three times each week, the book club will meet, Dirty Bingo on two Saturday’s, Red Hatters will have a luncheon at the Café and many fun and interesting Thursday coffee’s. Happy hour will be at the pool this month as will Ladies Night Out. The Resident Council is sponsoring Monday Night Out at the Café on August 10th so be sure to get your tickets early. Our birthday/anniversary party for the month will be on Tuesday, August 25, please come out for cake and to celebrate or wish your neighbor Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary. This is always a fun time for fellowship. Healthy Partners Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 532-6001 and Peggy Kenner with our Wellness Center is available on Monday’s and Thursday’s for your health needs. Our Marketing Department has been busy moving in new residents so please take the time to welcome your new neighbors. We want to say a fond farewell to Harrell and LaGene Hampton as they relocate.

We Have A Dream! The Westminster Village Bus Fund

Well I just wanted to take the time to tell you about what is going on with the

bus fund. First of all, it was the Resident Council that helped get the fund going with $500. We did a nice little dog show that thankfully that almost broke even. First National Bank helped us out with $200 to pay for the Dog Show ribbons. Otherwise we would have been in the hole. I want to thank Jack Frizzell and Florence Romero they each gave $100 during the 4th of July celebration bringing the fund to 791.27. A few residents and I worked at the gate for the Sports Car Club of America the first weekend in June, so the SCCA gave a $200.00 donation to the WMV Bus Fund. Well now we had $991.27. Wow! At this past Thursday at Coffee, we had a push to make the fund go over $1000. Thanks to all the donations we made it to $1011.27. Then to make it even better, Jerry and Betty Brown gave $100.00 to the Bus Fund, bringing the bal-ance to 1,111.27. So remember, your donations to Westminster Village are tax deductible and you can help us grow the bus fund with your contributions. So lets all get on board!
