BROKENNESS
We want to be very simple
in this matter of revival.
Revival is just the life of
the Lord Jesus poured into
human hearts. Jesus is
always victorious. In
heaven, they are praising
Him all the time for His
victory. Whatever may be
our experience of failure
and barrenness, He is
never defeated. His
power is boundless. And we,
on our part, have only to get
into a right relationship with
Him, and we shall see His
power being demonstrated
in our hearts and lives and
service. His victorious life will
fill us and overflow through
us to others. And that is re-
vival in its essence.
If, however, we are to come
into this right relationship
with Him, the first thing we
must learn is that our wills
must be broken to His will.
Theme for 2012:
“Theme: “Celebrating the Past,
Claiming the Future”
We live by faith, not by sight.

From Spirit to Spirit To be broken is the begin-
ning of revival. It is painful,
it is humiliating, but it is the
only way. It is being “Not I,
but Christ,” and a “C” is a
bent “I”. The Lord Jesus can-
not live in us fully and reveal
Himself through us until the
proud self within us is bro-
ken. This simply means that
the hard unyielding self,
which justifies itself, wants
its own way, stands up for its
rights, and seeks its own
glory, at last bows its head to
God’s will, admits it’s wrong,
Sunday Morning Worship Experiences
gives up its own way to Je-
sus, surrenders its rights
and discards its own glory…
that the Lord Jesus might
have all and be all. In other
words, it is dying to self and
self-attitudes.

Prayer Ministry Attitude
“The longer I live, the
more I realize the impact of
attitude on life. Attitude, to
me, is more important than
facts. It is more important
than the past, than educa-
tion, than money, than cir-
cumstances, than failures,
than successes, than what
other people think or say,
or do. It is more important
than appearances, gifted-
ness, or skill. It will make
or break a company…a
church…a home. The re-
markable thing is every
day we have a choice re-
garding the attitude we will
embrace for that day. We
cannot change our past…
we cannot change the fact
that people will act in a
certain way. We cannot
change the inevitable. The
only thing we can do is play
on the one string we have,
and that is our attitude…I
am convinced that life is
10% what happens to me
and 90% how I react to it.
And so it is with you…we
are in charge of Attitudes.”
~Charles Swindoll
A Thought for Meditation:
Prayer brings us peace,
prayer gives us power to
walk the Christian way;
Prayer links us with the
Living God; therefore, we
need to pray.

First Baptist Missionary
Circle Ministry celebrated
Foreign Mission Day
on Sunday, March 18,
2012. The 11:00
a.m. morning worship
guest speaker was
Rev. Dr. David E.
Goatley, Executive
Secretary-Treasurer
of the Lott Carey Foreign
Mission Convention.
Dr. Goatley referenced
Matthew 9:9-13 for his
sermon, “Ministry at the
Margins”. He was pre-
sented a check for
$2500.00 to support the
mission of Lott Carey. First
Baptist Church has a long-
standing relationship with
Lott Carey and continues to
work closely with them on
many natural disasters with
supportive monetary dona-
tions.
The Missionary Circle led
by Mrs. Doris Burke, Presi-
dent, in collaboration with
the members of the
ministry studies, plan
and organize mission
activities to meet the
needs of individuals
at home, in the com-
munity, the state, the
nation and the
world. Every First Bap-
tist member is encour-
aged to become an ac-
tive participant. The
Missionary Circle meets
the first Monday (after
the first Sunday of each
month) at 6:30 p.m. in
the Ward Chapel. You are
invited to attend.

“Communing With
God”
The Women’s Fellow-
ship during its March 3rd
meeting journeyed with
M. Craig Barnes, author
of Sacred Thirst, through
the discussion of
“Communing with God.”
There were several note-
worthy points as we em-
barked on this journey:
(1) We cannot make
things happen with God—
it happens according to
His will (2) Once we shed
all our expectations, the
vista is so wide (3) Com-
muning with God is not a
time for judgment, but a
time for loving.
The underlying premise of
this chapter is that we must
talk with God in our own way.
We know from Luke’s gospel
and from his writings in Acts,
the instructions of Jesus to
His disciples was upon His
ascension to—go wait for the
promise of the Father. It
seems that every important
thing in life comes after a
period of waiting. Waiting
reminds us that we, our-
selves, are not powerful
enough to make things hap-
pen, which is why we wait.
When we recognize this limi-
tation, our true self
emerges—in short, how we
wait tells God a lot about us.
When communing with
God, follow His instructions—
go to your upper room. The
upper room in the New Tes-
tament is a metaphor for a
place of spiritual intimacy. It
is a room of prayer which
exists in your own heart.
Whenever you pray, go into
that room and shut the door
and pray in secret to your
Father—the scriptures give
us the results. There needs
to be an upper room in every
Christian’s life, a place in
your heart, a place where
you are not distracted. This
is the place where you can
find the power of the Holy
Spirit. It is through this
power you can effectively
commune with God.
Meditative Thought: In
Psalm 139, we read what
King David thought of
God’s precious presence.
He wrote, “O Lord, You
have searched me and
You know me. You know
when I sit and You know
when I rise; . . .You are
familiar with all my ways . .
. If I go up to the heavens,
You are there” (vv1-3,8)
No matter what happens
to us, we have this assur-
ance: “God is our refuge
and strength, an ever-
present help in trou-
ble” (Psalm 46:1). Open
your eyes and your heart.
