Welcome back to a new year of Civic Association
events. We have a lot of changes in the works and a
lot of upcoming events starting with the
Membership Meeting and Election of officers to be
held on Wednesday, August 6th at 7pm at the Driftwood Country Club, 94 Gelpi Ave. Please come out and support
your Civic Association. We are very lucky to have our new Chief of Police, Chief Michael Glazer attending the
meeting . He will be speaking to us about what is going on in the city and our neighborhood. This is a great time to
bring your concerns and questions.
There are 3 positions that are opening up on the Board. Please run for the board if you would like. We have people
running, as Mary D' Anna has graciously agreed to be on the board, but will also have nominations from the floor. We
always need new people with new ideas. We have also said goodbye to our previous Bark Editor, Angel Crowley, who
did an amazing job on the Bark. However, we are thrilled to welcome our new Bark Editor, Shannon LeBlanc who has
many years of experience working in all types of computer programs. She will be handling not only on the Bark but
our website www.driftwoodparkcivicassociation.com and our Facebook page. She brings with her many new ideas for
improving all of these as well as well as our availability to you. Please do welcome her as she starts on this journey.
As I had said, we have 3 open positions for this election. We are sadly losing Stacey Carver who has done a great job
for the board. She put a lot of hours of hard work into this Civic Association and we appreciate all of it. Dona
Reynaud is stepping down, but will be continuing as our Parade Captain. She has done a great job at both however, she
would like to concentrate on the Parade only. Also, we are losing and will miss Melissa Tillman on the board. She has
also been a very special part of this board who has worked so very hard to help on every project and every event. She
will continue in her position in Bark Distribution and we thank her for that.. And now, it is with great sadness that I say
to you that I am leaving the board. It's been a long time and a good one for me working with all the wonderful people
who have been on this board as well as all of you great people
who live in Driftwood. I have truly enjoyed all that we have
done together and hopefully accomplished as a group. I've
lived here a long time and I have always loved Driftwood. I
hope that I can continue to see it grow and stay the great place
it is to live in, but it's time for me to move on with my life. I
wish each of you all of the best. You will have a great board
as most of the people on it have graciously agreed to stay. I
have to say thank you to John DeHaven, Anne Villanueva,
Keith Sellers, and Mike Carter along with Stacey, Melissa,
and Dona for all that they have done to help me and make my
life as President so much easier. I will always have fond
memories of these years we have worked together.
I do want to ask that you support DPCA in any way you can
specifically by joining for just $25 per year. You certainly get
a lot for that small amount of money and you can help
Driftwood to grow. Again, many thanks for all that each of
you have done in the past years and the fun that we had
together. May Driftwood continue to be a wonderful place in
which to live and raise a family .

Councilman’s Corner Councilman Keith M. Reynaud, District 3
Greetings Friends and Neighbors!
I hope that everyone is having a great summer making
memories with family and friends. As you know July 1st
was the induction for the council members, the mayor
and the chief of police. The Inaugural Mass and
Ceremony was a very special day that I will treasure for
years to come. I look forward to working with the
incoming council members during the next four years to ensure that the City continues to move in the right
direction.
We are in full swing of Hurricane season so please visit the City of
Kenner’s website at www.kenner.la.us for Hurricane Preparedness
info and links on how to prepare your family for an impending storm!
Now for updates about Driftwood … The code enforcement department
has earmarked approximately $18,000 to begin demolition on the four-
plex at 3665 Martinique. Demolition costs are also included in this year’s
budget for 50 Granada. The city is still waiting on the ruling from the Supreme Court to be able to knock
down this blighted property. The Granada @ Martinique lift station & force main project has experienced
some weather delays as well as some manufactured parts issues. The contractor will be asking for an
additional 60 day extension due to these unforeseen delays. The large trees along West Esplanade between
Power and Williams have been trimmed due to the newer height of the asphalt overlay.
Once again I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your city council representative. Please
do not hesitate to call if I can ever be of assistance. I can be reached at my office, 504-468-7249, my cell
504-415-1494 or by email – [email protected] Please join me on Facebook www.facebook.com/

Our next garden club meeting will be on the first Wednesday of September. If you are interested in joining, please contact Mary D’Anna at [email protected] or through the Nextdoor site.
The Garden Club had a wonderful garden party at the home of Christina Carter during the first week of May. Her yard was decorated with beautiful plants and lit by candle lanterns. We had tables around the pool, covered in white table cloths and decorated with burlap placemats. A delicious pot luck dinner was furnished by our members.
We exchanged garden themed gifts and took advantage of the right to steal gifts from one another. Christina had a surprise gift for all of us and we found out that we were all going on a Garden District Tour!
On May 28th our group met uptown and we walked a six block area of the Garden District and saw many beautiful homes and gardens. We walked past one of Anne Rice’s mansions, we saw Archie Manning’s home, and we were amazed by the landscaping and abundance of blooms in every yard we walked by. Our tour ended at Lafayette Cemetery No 1 and our tour guide pointed out some of the famous grave sites and different styles of burial.
We then crossed the street and had lunch at Commander’s Palace and it was so appropriate that we were seated in the Garden Room. The lunch was wonderful and the service was amazing. It was the perfect ending to our day.
Our group does not meet during the summer, but we do choose Gardens of the Month. Our June garden was the home of Kevin and Ann Babb at 66 Granada and our July garden of the month is the home of Merle and Evenly Frost at 3 Billyday. In the last issue of the Bark the May garden of the month was mistakenly identified and we want to recognize the winner, Kanan Saedah Judeh at 82 Nassau. Congratulations to all of our winners!

The Literary Society of Driftwood met, in June. at the home of Babs Conway, to discuss the fictional novel
Quentins, by best selling author, Maeve Benchy. It is the story of a
generation of patrons who dine at Quentins Restaurant in Dublin, Ireland. From 1970 to the present time,
The characters keep us on edge with tales of love, betrayal, revenge and criminal activity. We decided that
we liked Brenda Brennan, (as our favorite), who manages the restauarnt with her husband, Patrick . They
took it from beginning to a famous, friendly but upscaled
establishment. We loved the novel and characters like Ella Brady who had the misfortune to fall for. Don
Richardson, a Bernie Madoff character who cons millions out of the residents of Dublin including her
parents.
In May, we met at the home of Kim Frisard, to
discuss Ernest Hemingway's For Whom the Bell
Tolls. Our quest is to read a classic each year. It
tells a tale of Robert Jordan, a young American
reporter for the North American Newspaper
Alliance who is sent to Spain in the middle of their
civil war. It
tells of love, loyalty, courage, defeat, betrayal and
the plans to blow up a bridge.
We won't meet in July, but return August 12th, to
discuss Allison Peatak's The Traitor's
Wife. September 9th, we will read Me Before You,
written by JoJo Moyes.
We welcome new members, so if you like to read
and are interested in joining us on the second
Tuesday of each month, please call Annie P.
Collom at 443-1571.

The Driftwood Country Club takes the “Team” in Swim Team to heart, down
to the coaching staff. DPCC’s coaching philosophy is a team effort. Brooke
Poirrier, Brooke Williamson and Emily Wilson bring 29 years combined
experience to the Driftwood swim team.
Brooke Poirrier joined the DPCC team
13 years ago. She graduated from Chapelle
this spring where she spent 2 years on the
swim team. Brooke loves the fact that this
team sport has an individual competitive
element. Growing up down the street from the club, she found that being a
member of the team was an easy way to find friends in the neighborhood.
Brooke Williamson has always loved the water. With 9 years as a DPCC
Shark, 4 years on St. Martin’s swim team where she will be a sophomore this
fall, and as a member of Crescent City Swim Club year-round team, she has a great deal of experience. One
thing Brooke loves most about competitive swimming is the team spirit, citing “the adrenaline rush you get
when cheering on your teammates.” Joining the team is “a great way to get involved and stay entertained
during the summer. “
Emily Wilson, a sophomore, joined the
DPCC team 7 years ago after watching
her step-sisters practice and compete at
DPCC. She has 2 years experience on
Dominican’s team and has competed
year-round with Nu Wave and Crew
swim teams. Emily loves that Driftwood
is a small club and points out that “it
feels nice to know everyone’s name”. She
loves the lasting friendships that form in
the pool behind that brick wall on Gelpi.
As this summer winds and the days
shorten, it is never too soon to start
thinking about next year’s team. The
swim team starts preparing around the
time the pool opens – near Memorial
Day. Keep an eye on the Club’s website
and the Driftwood Bark next spring for
information on getting your kids involved
with the swim team.
