“PASTOR PAUL’S PARAGRAPHS”
Dear Members and Friends of the Sweetwater Baptist Church:
Blessings!! One of the most significant days of the year in our country is Memorial Day.
Our Memorial Day Celebration will be on May 24th. Sunday School will begin at 9:30 am followed
by our morning worship service at 10:45 am. (There will be no 8:30 am worship service). The choir
will be presenting patriotic music during the worship service. It will be a meaningful time of remem-
brance and celebration. Dawn Smith Jordan will be with us during the evening service for a ministry
concert at 6:00 pm followed by a “Finger Food Fellowship.” Please, bring your favorite finger food
and desserts. I hope you will make plans to be with us at Sweetwater for this special day of worship
and remembrance.
During the next two months we will be focusing on the family as we observe Mother’s Day on
May 10th and Father’s Day on June 21st. The family is the foundation of society and the backbone
of the church. Unfor tunately, the traditional family is under attack. Next month the Supreme
Court is scheduled to rule on the legality of same sex marr iages and the constitutionality of
state bans on such marriages. Regardless of what the Supreme Court decides, the biblical definition
of marriage is between a man (male) and a woman (female). Genesis 2:23 and 24 states, “And Adam
said: ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh: She shall be called Woman, Because she
was taken out of Man.’ Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and they shall become one flesh.” In the Garden of Eden God created Adam and Eve, NOT Adam
and Steve! It is imperative that the church protect, promote, and preserve the traditional family. We
must invest in marriages and foster an environment of nurture for our children and young people at
Sweetwater.
We are certainly living in perilous times. We desperately need God’s help! Pray that He will
intervene in the Supreme Court decision regarding same sex marriages. To help us in this process,
The National Day of Prayer is on May 7th. This is a special day reserved for praying for our coun-
try, communities, and churches. Prayer guides will be provided in every bulletin on Sunday, May
3rd, to assist each church member as we observe the National Day of Prayer. Let me encourage you
to utilize these prayer guides throughout the day on May 7th. Also, we will be observing “Ten Hours
of Continuous Prayer” in the Prayer Room. There will be a sign-up poster in the Information
Center for you to select a time that is convenient for your personal schedule. As you pray, claim Sec-
ond Chronicles 7:14 which declares, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble
themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heav-
en, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
It is a privilege and an honor to serve you!!
With a Pastor’s Love,
Brother Paul Philippians 1:3
