    Maybe this is global trend?Comparing Malaysia & Singapore (2007 & 2011):

Almost 100% in Singapore meet basic numeracy skills. 1/3 in Malaysia FAIL to meet basic numeracy skills. Almost half in Singapore perform at the advance level but only 2% in

Malaysia do so!! Most importantly, Singaporean numeracy levels have IMPROVED over time.

Are we not investing enough in education & humancapital development?

    Comparing Malaysia & Ukraine (2011):

Malaysia spends 50% more on education than Ukraine (8.1% vs 5.4%): Malaysia hashigher GDP.

So, why is a country spending less than half of the amount spent by Malaysia,

    achieving better results?

Is this even real? Many of us might question the veracity of this informationbut here are some personal encounters of mine:

Case 1:A 16 year old student of mine ,totally shocked me whenhe confidently answered that 4 + 0 = 0. Yes, he wasSERIOUS!! He couldnt even add single digit numbers, yethe is in Form 4 just of his age.

    Case 2:

Many students in my better classes have yet to master

their timetables. And they too are in Form 4.

    How is this even possible?

Is it because of: Inconsistent Policies?

Poor Teacher Quality? High Student : Teacher Ratio?

Too Much Emphasis on Rote Learning?and the list goes on in this endless game of blames

    BUT!!!!What about SOLUTIONS???Are there ANY??

Or is this a LOST Generation???

    Project Implementation Strategy (Phase 1)

1 School runs diagnostic tests on students literacy, numeracy and

    scientific skills.

    2

    Remedial modules are prepared

(i.e Form 4 students were retaught basic chapters like fractions as they failed to masterthe topic in Form 1)

    3

Upon successful remediation, students are geared towardsenrichment.

(i.e : A few Form 4 students managed to tackle Form 5 questions which they had noprior knowledge on discovery learning)

Phase 1 had no mentoring element and was strictly tutoring due

    to a lack of volunteers!
