‘Classical touch with awareness’ VonWinckelmann is a noble brand in every sense of the word: organic and fair trade, stemming from classical tradition. Franklin von Winckelmann, the last descendant of the aristocratic Von Winckelmann family, has carried on his noble family name by founding an innovative, unconventional brand of apparel: VonWinckelmann. With respect for environment and people, Von Winckelmann focuses on developing and producing fashion apparel in an honest and fair trade manner. VonWinckelmann presents three labels for the summer of 2012: tailored, leisure and organic apparel. VonWinckelmann ‘Tailored Apparel’ The Tailored Apparel collection highlights the care for detail with designs that have been meticulously handmade. Classic woollen fabrics combined with an Argyle Jersey print, blazers finished with handmade decorative stitching and lined pants using authentic workmanship for the inside finishing. These added details give this label a unique tailor-made look. New processing on knitwear uses geometric jacquards, in fine mix knits of cashmere, acrylic en cotton. worn(r-)evolution ‘Leisure Apparel’ Influences from ‘leisure’ and ‘military’ can be recognized in this label by the American Chino inspired pants and blazers with matching walking shorts, made in 100% cotton chambray and American drill. The complementing polo shirts have all-over prints such as camouflage, painted checks and bandana motifs, which are often combined with handmade embroideries. Pu(r-)e ‘organic apparel’ The U.S. organic cotton of this label is Union Control certified. The dyeing process of the fabric takes place on the island of Bali and follows a natural technique, creating a slightly washed look. The label consists of a line of tees that richly combines prints with embroideries. The tees are for men, women and kids. All of VonWinckelmann’s apparel is consciously produced, but this label is purely 100% organic! Including the handmade recycled hangtags. [Why leaves] -no trees need to be felled -trees require periodic trimmings -trees are easy to obtain or plant -can also be obtained by cooperation with the farmers -their harvest does not disturb the supply of food -its easy to transform the leaves into extracts -their waste can be processed to become compost [The process] -collecting the leaves (ingredients) -preparation of the ingredients -grinding and drying -boiling process to obtain the coloring extracts [The following ingredients are used to dye the fabric] latin name color indigofera tinchoria leaves indigo blue cassia alata leaves yellow mangifera indica leaves yellow morinda citrifolia root red caesalpinia sappan wood red swietenia mahagony leaves brown lagerstroemia speciosa leaves grey/lila muntingia clabura leaves dark khaki/black Eugenia cumini leaves purple/grey [Defects of natural dyeing] The colors are not resistant to abrasiveness and are sensitive to strong light (colors fade). Due longer processing price is relatively higher than conventional dyeing. VonWinckelmann intend to realize eco-friendly, sustainable and high quality processes and products which have a high proportion of local content, both in terms of the process and ingredients, as well acceptable in local and international markets.
