What does happen in face-to-face meetings:

• Before the meetings: Smalltalk, having a coffee

• During the meeting: Have a break, a chat and more coffee

• After the meeting: Clear some final thoughts and have

another cup of coffee and perhaps lunch together

What does happen in virtual meetings:

• Before the conference call starts: Doing Smalltalk before

everybody arrives

• During conference calls: No time for socializing, we need

to work through the agenda

• After the conference call: Run away (log off, hang up) as

soon as possible

Start your meetings at the scheduled time (even if some

participants are missing) and plan a brief interaction with a

"private" issue within the first half of the virtual meeting (until

everybody arrived).

Take advantage of the possibilities of your collaboration tools

Many companies use the functionality of their collaboration

tools, e.g. WebEx only on a very basic level.

Invest a couple of hours time, then use polls, whiteboards

and other features that make your virtual meetings exciting

and varied.

Your team will thank you with a higher motivation and better

performance.
