Where can we find information about you?
The objectives of this webinar are:
• Introduce the model which will be part of the Delphi-survey
• Communicate the schedule of the experiment
• Show the interface for the survey

6. Summary
What does happen in face-to-face meetings:
• Before the meetings: Smalltalk, having a coffee
• During the meeting: Have a break, a chat and more coffee
• After the meeting: Clear some final thoughts and have
another cup of coffee and perhaps lunch together

Socializing - Establish Social Contact
VTMM - Expert´s survey using the Delphi-Method
What does happen in virtual meetings:
• Before the conference call starts: Doing Smalltalk before
everybody arrives
• During conference calls: No time for socializing, we need
to work through the agenda
• After the conference call: Run away (log off, hang up) as
soon as possible

Socializing: Establish Social Contact - virtually

The „Private 5-minutes“ ritual
Start your meetings at the scheduled time (even if some
participants are missing) and plan a brief interaction with a
"private" issue within the first half of the virtual meeting (until
everybody arrived).

Virtual
Teams
Virtual teams are
1. Geographically distributed (“the house opposite” to “in other time zone”)
2. Have a common goal
3. Working together, through various communication tools
4. Includes divisional and cross-cultural elements

Virtual Best Practice #2
Get-to-know-each-other through Social Media
Encourage your team members to create an updated social
media profile. LinkedIn is well accepted worldwide, Google+
works also very well.
Use this information for relationships building within the
team.
The whole team participates!
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) measure the level of team performance:

Virtual Team Assessor
VTMM – Virtual Team Maturity Model Expert´s survey using the Delphi-Method
Assessment of the maturity level
VTMM - Expert´s survey using the Delphi-Method
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are accumulated to define 4 levels of team
performance:
VTMM – Virtual Team Maturity Model Expert´s survey using the Delphi-Method
Assessment of the maturity level
Undefined:
Successful virtual teamwork is unrelated to virtual team processes
Basic:
Minimum virtual team processes relevant for the team performance
have been implemented
Advanced:
All VTMM processes have been
implemented; the virtual team performs
well
Mastery:
The processes are stabile and the virtual
team performance remains constant even
if team members change

Build up knowledge centrally
• Tools library: lists the tools for virtual teamwork and links them to the VTMM
processes. It also evaluates its costs and practices.
• Culture library: Concepts that have an impact on virtual team performance and
which are hard to measure. The concepts range from past experience to Learning
Styles and vEtiquette.

Virtual Best Practice #3
Take advantage of the possibilities of your collaboration tools
Many companies use the functionality of their collaboration
tools, e.g. WebEx only on a very basic level.
Invest a couple of hours time, then use polls, whiteboards
and other features that make your virtual meetings exciting
and varied.
Your team will thank you with a higher motivation and better
performance.
And if the whole team gets trained at the same time, then
you have a virtual teambuilding included for free!
