VX2014 builds on and confirms the central thesis of previousVerdeXchange conferences: California and the Western Statesare opportunity-rich markets for renewables, sustainablepractice, and finance as well as portals to all of North America. Approximately 600 delegates will attend VX2014, includingglobal, national, and regional industry leaders and procurers ofsolar, wind, energy efficiency, infrastructure engineering, alternative fueled vehicles, project finance, clean water, carbon auditing, smart grid, and green building. All are, orwish to be, actively investing in and shaping the US, WesternStates, and global green economy marketplace.

Since the first VerdeXchange Conference in 2007, themarketplace for Power Generation, Infrastructure, GridManagement, One Water, Sustainable Development, MobilityAlternatives, Intelligent Grids, National Defense, and Securityhave been transformed by public policies and entrepreneurialinvestments. Regulations for reducing greenhouse gases werein their formative stages seven years ago. Today, manynations, sub-regional, and local governments have introducedbroad-based regulations to incentivize the adoption ofrenewable and clean energy technologies. Consumers arebeing incentivized to purchase Net Zero homes, and NetMetering is driving growth in distributed energy. New and higher global estimates of oil and gas reservespromise abundance, hemispheric security, and low energyprices, especially with the increased use of fracking to recover

oil and gas from deep shale formations in locations like NorthDakota, Montana, and Canada. Contrary to dire predictionsonly five years ago, energy independence may be achieved bythe US in a relatively short period of time. To be discussed:How price competitive will renewables and new innovativeclean technologies be in the future?

Lastly, the seventh annual VX2014, in partnership with UrbanLand Institute’s FutureBuild again will, on Tuesday,January 28th, feature six morning panels involving leadingdevelopers, real estate financiers, and public sector plannersand environmental regulators from metro Los Angeles andaround the world. They will be sharing case studies ofFutureBuild opportunities and technologies now driving greenbuild innovation and sustainable development.

VX2014 panel topics will include:• Rethinking Utility Regulation to Get From Megawatts toGigawatts• Big Data’s Impact on Clean & Green TechnologyPerformance• Where Now for Solar & Wind–Marketplace Strategies, Policy& Investment• Cars 2.1: The Market Today & Tomorrow for Clean and FuelEfficient Cars • One Water... Making it a Reality• Natural Gas & Renewables in an Era of Energy Abundance• Greening the San Pedro Bay Port• Monetizing & Incenting Efficiency Conservation• To Frack or Not to Frack: Is That the Question?• Are American Utilities Now in a Death Spiral? • Commercializing Clean Tech—Global Incubation/AccelerationModels• Cap-and-Trade in Practice & CARB’s Agenda forTransportation Fuels• Designing & Financing Resilient Infrastructure• Micro Grids for Buildings and Communities• Energy from Waste Water and Sludge-Prototype Processes• Innovative Financing of Renewables—Solar, Wind and Water• Clean Tech Grid Integration—The ROI of Smart Two-WayTechnologies• Game Changer: Battery and Storage Technology—CarbonCapture Technology and Practice (Quebec/Japan/US)• Leveraging the Power of Social & EnvironmentalPerformance Reporting• Waste-to-Energy Conversion Technologies and Protocols• Carbon Capture Technologies & Practices• Assessing Clean Cities:Efficiency/Sustainability/Procurement• Adaptation of Water Supply & Uses to the Challenges ofClimate Change

Page 5: VX2014 Conference Update

• Envisioning More Sustainable Metropolises: Greener byDesign• Alternative Fueled Fleets: Lessons Learned• Conversion Technologies—What’s In-Market & What’sNeeded in Market• China Case Study: Climate Change Policy/ClimateAdaptation• Healthy Facilities & Communities by Design• The Role of Universities in the Green Economy

Additionally, international collaboration, global businesspartnerships, and the emergence of new technologies toreduce energy consumption, increase efficiency, and providenew sources of energy, continue apace. The elevatedimportance of water resource management and the need forcontinuing dialogue between government, regulators, andbusiness has never been stronger. The use of global standardsto measure and report the initiatives to reduce greenhousegases is gaining acceptance among investors.

Against this backdrop of contradictory pressures, volatility anduncertainty, the VerdeXchange 2014 Green MarketmakersConference is being planned, and we invite you to attend.
