Two reports published this summer from the British Chamber of Commerce and CBI share a common thread; the current education system is not preparing young people with the skills employers need. The British Chamber of Commerce revealed that 1 in 5 businesses say it takes up to six months to ll skilled roles and according to data from the CBI almost one in four young people (aged 17-23) feel that their education has not adequately prepared them for the world of work. With close to half of all employers (44%) nding young people leaving school, college or university are not ready for the workplace. Read more >> 1 MAY 2019 Siemens UK Chief Executive inspires UTC students with exciting vision of digital industrial future The UK Chief Executive of Siemens told aspiring engineers and digital technology students they have an exciting future at the forefront of the so-called fourth industrial revolution. Professor Juergen Maier CBE made the comments during a visit to Ron Dearing University Technical College (UTC) in Hull. Siemens Gamesa, which has a world-class oshore wind turbine blade factory in Hull, is among Ron Dearing UTC’s Founding Partners who established the school to provide a pipeline of young people with advanced digital and engineering skills for companies such as Siemens. During a VIP visit to the school with former Siemens UK Chief Executive and Chairman Alan Wood CBE and Siemens Mobility UK Director of Localisation Finbarr Dowling, Prof Maier took part in a question and answer session with a group of students in Year 10 (aged 14 and 15). Siemens UK Chief Executiveinspires UTC students withexciting vision of digitalindustrial future
