Reports from CBI &Chamber of Commerce callfor career-focused educationCharacter and broader skills need greater emphasisin education. Two reports published this summerfrom the British Chamber of Commerce and CBIshare a common thread; the current educationsystem is not preparing young people with the skillsemployers need.
The British Chamber of Commerce revealed that 1 in5 businesses say it takes up to six months to �llskilled roles and according to data from the CBIalmost one in four young people (aged 17-23) feelthat their education has not adequately preparedthem for the world of work. With close to half of allemployers (44%) �nding young people leaving school,college or university are not ready for the workplace.

Siemens UK Chief Executiveinspires UTC students withexciting vision of digitalindustrial future
The UK Chief Executive of Siemens told aspiringengineers and digital technology students they havean exciting future at the forefront of the so-calledfourth industrial revolution. Professor Juergen MaierCBE made the comments during a visit to RonDearing University Technical College (UTC) in Hull. Siemens Gamesa, which has a world-class o�shorewind turbine blade factory in Hull, is among RonDearing UTC’s Founding Partners who establishedthe school to provide a pipeline of young people withadvanced digital and engineering skills forcompanies such as Siemens. During a VIP visit to theschool with former Siemens UK Chief Executive andChairman Alan Wood CBE and Siemens Mobility UKDirector of Localisation Finbarr Dowling, Prof Maiertook part in a question and answer session with agroup of students in Year 10 (aged 14 and 15).
