Walter Douglas Smaill was born on November 19, 1916 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He moved with his mother and father to Montreal, Quebec shortly after his birth. He attended Westmount High School and graduated in 1936. Walter Douglas Smaill joined the Canadian Armed Forces immediately after graduating from Westmount High School. His unit was the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada. He gained the rank of lieutenant. He participated in many sports during his time at Westmount. From 1931-1932, he played junior football and junior basketball. From 1932-1933 he was part of the senior gym team. He was in senior football from 1933-1934 and was part of the city champs. He was also the captain of the senior basketball team from1933-1934. From 1935-1936, he was captain of the senior hockey team and the diving champ. Sadly, not much is known about the cause of death of Walter Douglas Smaill except that he died overseas, during the war. He was officially pronounced dead on February 28th 1945, at the age of 28. Walter Douglas Smaill was born on November 19, 1916 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He moved with his mother and father to Montreal, Quebec shortly after his birth. He attended Westmount High School and graduated in 1936.
