1) TheVFS-typevalvesmadeofaluminiumalloyarenotdesignedtobeartheweightofequipment installedbelow(e.g.screwfeeders,beltconveyors,vibratoryfeedersetc.).

2) Tofixthevalve,onlyusestudboltsthatarelongenoughtopassthroughtheupperconnectingflange,thevalveitselfaswellasthelowerconnectingflange,formingasandwich.Screwonthenutsfirmlybutnotexcessively.Theinsidenutshavenoweight-bearingfunction.Theyonlyservetosecurethevalvewhenthefeederinstalledbelowisstrippeddown.

3) Applyathinlayerofliquidsealbeforefittingthevalvetotheconnectingflange.4) Closethevalveonlywhenmaterialisflowing.5) Cleanthevalveregularlywitheitherairorwater.Thisisparticularlyimportantifthematerialhandledtendstocompactortosolidifyduetolongershutdownperiods.

1) Openinspectionhatchbeneaththebearingtobereplaced.2) Removeboltsthatfastenthetwobearinghalves.3) Lowerbearinghalfisnowfree.Removeexternalhangerboltsandturnupperhangerhalfuntilitcanbeextractedthroughthehatch.

InadditiontoFig.1,aswellastoinstructionsunderreferenceFig.2proceedasfollows:

4) Carefullyloosenplank(A)5) Gentlylowerinletspiral(D)untilshaft(E)isfree.6) Replaceshaft(E).

Forreassemblyproceedtheoppositeway.

Ifonlytheslidebushesmustbereplacedtheabove-mentionedstepsdonothavetobecarriedout.Thehalfbushmaybesimplyreplacedwithoutcarryingouttheabovesteps.

Safetymustbe consideredabasic factor inmachinery operation at all times.Most acci-dents are the result of carelessness or negli-gence.Thefollowingsafetyinstructionsarebasicguidelines and should be considered asmini-mum provisions.Additional information shallbeobtainedby thepurchaser fromothersourc-es, including theAmericanSocietyofMechan-icalEngineers,StandardANSIB20.1,StandardANSIB15.1,StandardANSIA12.1StandardANSIMH4.7andStandardANSIZ244. WAM, Inc.doesnot installequipment,conse-quently it is the responsibilityof the contractor,installer, owner and user to install,maintainand operate the conveyor, components andassemblies insuchamanneras tocomplywiththeWilliam-SteigerOccupationalSafety andHealthActandwithallstateand local lawsandordinances and theAmericanNationalStan-dard Institute (ANSI) safety code. Inorder toavoidanunsafeorhazardouscon-dition,theassembliesorpartsmustbe installedandoperated inaccordancewith the followingminimum provisions.1. Conveyors,andallother rotatingand vibrat-ing equipment (hereafter referred to asequipment) shallnotbeoperatedunlessallcoversand/orguards for theequipmentanddriveunitare inplace. If theequipment is tobe opened for inspection cleaning,mainte-nance or observation, the electric power tothemotor driving the conveyormust beLOCKEDOUTandTAGGEDOUT in suchamanner that the equipment cannot be re-startedbyanyone;however remote from thearea, until equipment cover or guards anddriveguardshavebeenproperly replaced.

2. If theequipmentmusthaveanopenhousingasaconditionof itsuseandapplication, theentireequipment is then tobeguardedbyarailingorfenceinaccordancewithANSIstan-dardB20.1-1993,with specialattentiongiv-en to section6.12.

3. Feed openings for shovel, front loaders orothermanualormechanicalequipment shallbeconstructed insuchaway that theequip-mentopening is coveredbyagrating. If thenatureof thematerial is such thatagratingcannotbeused, then theexposed

1. sectionof theequipment is tobeguardedbya railingor fenceand thereshallbeawarn-ing signposted.

2. Do not attempt anymaintenance or repairsof the equipment until power has beenLOCKEDOUTandTAGGEDOUT.

3. Controlstoredenergy:Usesafetyblocksbe-tweendangerousparts that couldmoveandinjure.Always operate conveyor in accor-dancewith these instructionsand thosecon-tained on the caution labels affixed to theequipment.

4. Donotplacehandsor feet in theequipment.5. Neverwalkonequipment covers,gratingorguards.

6. Donotuseequipment foranypurposeotherthan that forwhich itwas intended.

7. Donotpokeorprodmaterial into theequip-mentwithabarorstick inserted through theopenings.

8. Keepareaaroundequipmentdriveand con-trol station freeofdebrisandobstacles.

9. Always regulate the feedingofmaterial intotheunitatauniformand continuous rate.

10.Donotattempt to clear jammedequipmentuntil power has been LOCKEDOUT andTAGGEDOUT.

11.Do not attempt fieldmodification of equip-mentor components.

12.Equipment isnotnormallymanufacturedordesigned to handlematerials that are haz-ardous topersonnel.Thesematerialswhicharehazardous include those thatareexplo-sive, flammable, toxic,orotherwisedanger-ous to personnel.Equipmentmay be de-signed tohandle thesematerials.Equipmentis notmanufactured or designed to complywith local, stateor federal codes forunfiredpressure vessels. Ifhazardousmaterialsaretobe conveyedor if theequipment is tobesubjected to internal or external pressure,WAM, Inc. shouldbe consultedprior toanymodifications.

WAM,Inc.insiststhatdisconnectingandlock-ingoutand taggingout thepower to themotordriving the unit provides this only real protec-tion against injury.Secondary safety devicesareavailable;however, thedecisionas to theirneedand the type requiredmustbemade

bytheowner-assembleraswehavenoinforma-tion regardingplantwiring,plantenvironment,the Interlocking of the equpmentwith otherequipment, extent of plant automation, etc.Otherdevices shouldnotbeusedasa substi-tute for lockingout thepowerprior to removingguards or covers.We caution that use of thesecondarydevicesmaycauseemployeestode-velopa false senseof securityand fail to lockout power before removing covers or guards.This could result ina serious injury should thesecondary device fail ormalfunction.Therearemanykindsofelectricaldevicesforinterlocking of equipment and equipment sys-tems such that if one item of equipment in asystemorprocess is stoppedotherequipmentfeeding it,or following it canalsobeautomat-ically stopped.Electricalcontrols,machineryguards,railings,walkways,arrangementof installation, trainingofpersonnel,etc.arenecessary ingredients fora safeworkingplace. It is the responsibilityofthecontractor, installer,owneranduser tosup-plement thematerials and services furnishedwith thesenecessary items tomake theequip-ment installation complywith the law and ac-cepted standards. Equipment inletanddischargeopeningsaredesigned to connect to other equipment ormachinery so that the flowofmaterial intoandoutof theequipment is completely enclosed.
