2014 - 2015

I’m honored to present the 2014 WCCS Annual Report.

As the new WCCS CEO/Executive Director, I am proud to talk about the many amazing programs and services that WCCS offers. From the youngest to the oldest in Warren County, WCCS programs focus on helping people better themselves and their situations.

Our Head Start programs ready preschoolers to be successful beginning in Kindergarten and beyond. Studies show that the most formative years are those below age five; investment in our youngsters pay tremendous dividends in making the children in our program successful throughout their school and post-school careers.

The WCCS STEP Toward Employment Program gives job seekers the skills, confidence and organization needed to make participants successful in obtaining new careers.

WCCS Senior Services include Meals on Wheels™, Medical and Non-medical Transportation, Subsidized Senior Housing, Elderly Services, the 741 Center, RSVP Volunteers, and more.

By improving peoples’ situations, we better our community as a whole. Every citizen in Warren County is directly or indirectly affected in a positive way by the services we provide. Stronger individuals equal a stronger com-munity.

2

We’re strengthening our relationships in the community and building alliances with the private and public sector. We’re actively building our community identity by connecting the programs we offer to our WCCS brand. It is through awareness and support of the community that we will continue to grow our agency. The generosity of the community is needed to sustain and grow our outstanding services.

We have many challenges ahead. By collaborating with a talented staff, community leaders and all stakeholders, we will tackle the challenges one-by-one. We will continue to vigorously move forward in providing the leadership and support that Warren County citizens deserve.

Our mission is clear and our vision is vast. Together we will continue to endure in strengthening the “Fabric of our Community” and to build the foundation upon which Warren County thrives.

Sincerely,

Eugene B. RoseCEO/Executive Director

Touching the Need

ydia, a native of China, resides at WCCS Station Hill Apartments in Lebanon. She has been living

in the US as a citizen for over 30 years.

Lydia, was both Professor and Dean of Mathematics at the Shanghai University in China. She has a great sense of humor and shares, “My students loved me because I would joke with them. They did not sleep in class.” She completed her Masters in Mathematics at the University of Eastern Illinois and shared her vast knowledge as a teachers assistant here in the states.

A Journey to Success

hirteen years ago Linda was a single mother and homeless, living in a local shelter, jobless, with no transportation. The future looked grim.

Linda was placed at WCCS through a county work program and acquired a car through a local program to get to work and the grocery. After four months she accepted a position at WCCS and the rest is history.

Today Linda is able to pay rent on a lovely place for herself and her daughter. Since July of 2011, Linda attended Fortis College in Centerville. In April of 2014, she graduated with High Honors “Suma Cum Laude”, a 3.90 G.P.A, receiving her Associates Degree in Applied Science!

“Last year, I was able to buy my first good used car! What a great day that was! I have come a long way and look forward to a brighter future all because people helped me when I needed it most.”

ric and Caren Whitmer came to the Head Start pro-gram as foster parents of three year old Sarah and two

babies, Sylvia and Stephanie. With both parents working, they placed Sarah in a full day classroom. Stephanie, the youngest, had to be tube fed due to feeding and sensory difficulties. Early Head Start teachers welcomed her into their classroom, and eagerly learned to care for her. “The teachers communicated with us about everything and we soon felt very confident.” said Caren. Through the routines and modeling of other children, Stephanie began to eat more foods by mouth. She is now a healthy, happy three year old who transitioned into Head Start with her sister Sylvia. Sarah, now six, went into kindergarten having received all she needed to be successful in school. The Whitmers adopted the three girls and are adopting a fourth foster daughter. As an additional joy, Caren is expecting...another daughter!
