Parking inWarwick

Effective from 1st April 2009

This guide is to assist you in finding the best place to park during your visit to

Warwick. There are two main areas for parking 1. Off-street car parks,

2. On-street parking.

Warwick has 14 District Council Car Parks with just under 2200 parking spaces:two of the car parks, Linen Street and Barrack Street are multi-storey car parks, the others are surface car parks. All the car parks are ‘Pay and Display’, whichrequire you to buy a ticket upon arrival.

‘Pay and Display’ machines accept the following coins: 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 &£2. No change is given. Decide how long you want to stay and tender the correct money for that time.

The parking charges and opening times of the car parks are shown below themap overleaf. A free 15 minute FREE PARKING TICKET is available in eachPay & Display car park. Please see Pay & Display machines for details.

All the car parks are conveniently situated (within 10 minutes walk) for allamenities and shopping. There are signs on all approach roads and throughoutthe town to guide you to the car parks.

Electronic signs are also present on the approach roads to the town helping, to direct you to the car park where spaces are available.

Season TicketsSeason Tickets are available for some of the off-street car parks. These offerparking at a discounted rate. Application forms can be obtained from: WarwickDistrict Council, Riverside House, Milverton Hill, Royal Leamington Spa, CV32 5QG. Telephone: 01926 456317.

Introduction to Civil Parking Enforcement Responsibility for managing the on-street parking regulations was passed from the Police to Warwickshire CountyCouncil in August 2007. However, enforcement and administration of the newarrangements is carried out by Warwick District Council. Any surplus funds raised goto the County Council and are ring fenced to support spending on local transport improvements.

Parking Information

1. Off-Street Car Parks

2 On-Street Parking

On-Street Parking Charges Charging times vary from street please refer to signage for clarification.

The choice of length of stay should be made on the first visit to the on-street pay and display machine, eg. If you anticipate being longer than 30 minutes you should purchase a 1 hour ticket (or 2 hour ticket). It is an offence to pay 20p for a 30 minutesstay and then return and purchase a further 30 minutes or a one or two hour ticket.Your length of stay needs to be determined at your first visit to the machine.

Over-Staying the Permitted Time LimitThis may result in a penalty charge notice being issued, so it is safer not to over-stay the permitted time period.

Other Parking RegulationsVehicles are expected to park within the marked parking bays. Vehicles parked outside the marked bays, over the white line or yellow lines, may receive a penaltycharge notice.

When Does Enforcement Stop On-Street?There is 24 hour enforcement. Restrictions vary from street to street, please refer to signage for clarification. Although on –street parking charges stop at 8 pm, vehicles are still expected to respect the regulations relating to yellow lines, taxiranks, loading bays etc..

Loading and UnloadingAny Vehicles can stop for as long as necessary while continuous loading or unloading is actively taking place. If no loading or unloading is observed for 5, a penalty charge notice will be issued.

Servicing and Trade VehiclesVehicles providing short term services to premises e.g. plumbers, electricians, locksmiths etc. or installing telephones, TV, broadband, etc. are treated like any other private vehicle and must comply with the new parking regulations. In ‘Pay &Display’ areas, they must purchase a ‘Pay & Display’ ticket. If they need to work from the vehicle for longer than the maximum length of stay, they must purchase a waiver from the District Council.

In resident’s parking Zones, they must either use the householder’s Visitor Permit or purchase a waiver from the District Council. Notices in the windscreen are not accepted.

Waivers can be obtained for a charge from: Parking Services, PO Box 2179, Warwick District Council, Riverside House, Milverton Hill, Royal Leamington Spa,CV32 5QG. Telephone: 01926 456317.

Emergency Repair Vehicles attending to emergencies (e.g. British Gas, Severn Trent and BT) are exempt while attending emergency work.

Resident’s ParkingIn Resident’s Parking Zones, vehicles can park for the length of time shown on thesignage, unless displaying a valid residents/visitors parking permit, in which case notime limit is imposed on the length of stay . Each household is entitled to three resident’s permits, each applicable to a specific vehicle, and one visitors permit, applicable to any vehicle. Application forms are available from: Warwick DistrictCouncil, Riverside House, Milverton Hill, Royal Leamington Spa, CV32 5QG. Telephone: 01926 456317 or at www.warwickdc.gov.uk/parking.

How You can Help Us

• Always park with consideration to others

• When parking, always lock and secure your car, and ensure your handbrake is on.

• If you are a regular parker, e.g. working in Warwick, vary where you parkso that a potential thief cannot easily establish that your car is left unattended for long periods.

• Never leave pets in the car.

• Please do not damage trees and vegetation when parking your car.

• Please keep car parks and streets clean and tidy by using the litter bins or taking your litter home.

• If a ‘Pay & Display’ machine is not working, please use another machine in the same street or within the same car park.

• Please report faulty equipment to a Civil Enforcement Officer or call 01926 456317.

• Let us have your comments on how we can improve our service. Email: [email protected]
