Disposing of AsbestosAsbestos is only accepted at Aberdeen WMF
If you have any waste containing asbestos you are required to follow specific procedures.
Asbestos must be wet down and completely encased in heavy duty plastic in a manner that reduces risk of splitting and is sealed to ensure asbestos particles cannot escape.
You will need to complete an application for asbestos waste disposal and provide at least 24 hours notice prior to disposing of asbestos at the WMF. Call 6540 1100 on weekdays, or 0400 483 873 after hours.
For information on handling asbestos and your legal requirements search for Asbestos Disposal on Council’s website.
Disposing of Hazardous WasteLiquid waste (oil exempt), gases, radioactive waste, toxic substances, untreated clinical or sharp waste and explosives are not accepted.
Phone Council on 6540 1100 with details of your waste and intended drop-off location for advice.
Disposing of Bulky ItemsLarge items may be too bulky for the WMF compactor to handle and may not be accepted. The annual kerbside bulky waste collection service may provide a solution for households wanting to dispose of bulky waste.
Phone Council on 6540 1100 with details of your waste and intended drop-off location for advice.
Waste Accepted ConditionallySome types of waste have special disposal requirements, including asbestos, quarantine waste, sewage screenings, deceased animals, odorous waste and dusty waste. A waste classification report mat be required. Council will require at least 24 hours notice prior to delivery. A special handling fee may apply.
Phone Council on 6540 1100 with details of your waste and intended drop-off location for advice.

Separate your bottles, cans and cartons and deposit these at a Return and Earn return point. Go to returnandearn.org.au for details.
2. Fill your trailer to capacityWait until you have a full load before you visit a WMF without a weighbridge. Facilities without a weighbridge charge by vehicle size, not weight (see below table).
Offer a friend to add their waste to your load and split the cost.
3. Buy Waste Disposal Tickets If you plan to make regular trips to a WMF purchasing Waste Disposal Tickets could save you hundreds. See page 5 for details.
4. SaveAside from saving money, correctly disposing of waste is good for human health and the environment. Recycling means that useful material is collected, diverted from landfill and reduces the need to mine more natural resources. Correctly disposing of e-waste ensures that hazardous materials including lead, bromine, mercury and zinc do not leach out from landfills into waterways.

ANNUAL KERBSIDE BULKY WASTE COLLECTION
An annual bulky waste collection service is available to households with an existing weekly waste collection service in Upper Hunter Shire.
Check Council’s website each year for the scheduled collection week or look out for media announcements in the weeks leading up to collection week.
The bulky waste service usually occurs in October. Look out for media announcements.
Keep your total waste under the capacity of one standard box trailer load (2m3). Anything in excess of this may not be collected. It will be up to you to remove this uncollected excess waste, which will be considered as illegally dumped waste once the bulky waste service has ceased.
The collection service does not return to any street that has already been serviced.
Any waste placed by kerbsides outside of this 2 week period will be considered illegal waste and fines could apply.
See next page for types of waste accepted during annual kerbside bulky waste collections
