Seven Fingered Sam

There once was a man named Sam who only had seven fingers and seven toes. Instead of 10 he wrote 13 and when he added 5 and 2 instead of 7 he got 10. What would Sam write instead of 27?

Answer No. 12 : 7 cm . This problem is easily solved by applying Pythagoras Theorem. The correct drawn entry was Alex Carpenter from Year 11 in Gordon House. Congratulations to all who entered on good thinking.

Principal’s Report…. Bob Henry (Principal)

U Turn As an independent community group the Seventh Day Adventist group have hired our Assembly Hall to conduct a series of “U Turn” youth meetings to be held this month. It is important for parents to know when making decisions regarding children attending these meetings that they are not Wauchope High School functions and school staff will not be on duty at these functions. State Finalists Congratulations to our 5 students who have been selected to complete in the State Athletics carnival, we wish them every success. Major Excursion Approximately 25 of our Year 10, 11 and 12 students are off to Melbourne next week for a school excursion. We hope they have a safe trip and an exciting learning experience. Year 8 to 9 On Tuesday the 15th of September we will be holding a parent information evening to assist parents and students make Year 9 elective subject decisions for 2010. All parents of Year 8 students are invited and encouraged to attend. More information will be sent home as we approach the day. Year 11 Subjects A Year 11 line structure has been created and communicated to Year 10 students for their HSC elective subject choices. Students are encouraged to complete these and return them to school and to inform their Year Adviser, Mrs Kerr, of any issues. Enrichment Class 2010 We have been delighted with the interest shown in our Year 7 Enrichment class for 2010 and the vast number and quality of applications we received. Letters offering placement in this class have been sent out to successful applicants. We have designed a parallel class in our timetable structure enabling us to review the performance of applicants who may have missed out on initial placement in the class and to make adjustments throughout the year.

Year 12 Year 12 have completed their Trial HSC and in most subjects all assessment tasks. The period of time from now to the HSC is critical for all Year 12 students and we encourage them to adopt regular and thorough study patterns that enable them to continue to improve their knowledge and responses for the HSC. CHS Futsal

Last Wednesday the Wauchope High School 14 and 16 years Futsal teams travelled to the Port Macquarie Indoor Stadium to participate in Round 1 and 2 of the North Coast knockout.

The 14 years girls team had a bye in the 1st round and met Westport in round 2. The girls played exceptionally well, considering over half the team are new to Futsal. The girls came out on top winning 2-1.

The 14 years boys also had a bye in the 1st round and met Westport in round 2. Once again, this team had a considerable number of new players. The boys came together well, defeating the Westport team convincingly.

The 16 years girls team came up against a well drilled Westport team, who have a number of representative players. The girls went down, displaying great team work and fighting until the end.

The 16 years boys came up against friendly rivals, Westport in round 1. The Wauchope boys outclassed Westport on this occasion, progressing to round 2. Their round 2 match was against Port Macquarie High, who where no match for the classy Wauchope team.

Wauchope High School now has 3 teams progressing to round 3, which could see them playing teams from the Kempsey area. Congratulations to all players (see page 3). Ms Keough

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PARENTS: Wauchope High School Web Page www.wauchope-h.schools.nsw.edu.au

The new Wauchope High School Web Page is being built and changed from its basic form that was supplied to us by the NSW Department of Education. At this stage the school can only modify the front home page. On this page is a bank of generic stories that come from the department and Wauchope High adds to this bank with its own stories. In addition there is room for 5 photos on the front page. The idea is that stories and photos from the bank are randomly picked and displayed each time someone logs on. (At a later date, the school will have more control over the web site).

Our school protocol is not to mention students names with photos. Before loading up photos to the web site, a question pops up to query that this has not been done. Even the newsletter that is attached by a link is a special version where the student’s name have been removed from the photos and generic comments are added.

Even without names attached, some parents may not wish their students images to be placed on the internet. Look at the web page and if you do not wish your child’s photo be added to the school web page within these guidelines, complete the following form and return to the school via the front office or by mail. Mr Robert Henry (Principal)

With 60 Wauchope High students in tow, Mrs Moy headed for Westport High School for the annual Daffodil Day Tug o War!!. With rain affecting results in the last few years, Wauchope High was able to mind its hard earned trophy from three years ago and was chomping at the bit to regain it again in 2009. After a fun day, however, Westport High regained the trophy and whilst we won three age divisions we light heartedly promised we would be back again for another go!! All in the name of a cure for Cancer!!

Get ready!

Go!
