Silent House Conventions – Use Of A Flash.Camera flash and sounds are visible quickly and briefly showing what’s within the next shot. I liked this technique therefore tried to use the idea but adding my own twist. E.g. Red filters and keeping the shots to look like pictures.

2:41 – Dip to white and the sound of a camera to show the effect of a camera taking a picture.

2:45 – After the ‘Flash’ is taken a shot with a red filter is shown and both girls look unconscious with the killer hanging around by them looking guilty. The camera effect is similar to ‘Silent House’

Chernobyl Diaries Conventions – Use Of Picture Taking

Visibly the character takes pictures and we see her taking the picture, what the picture looks like and then what the outcome is when she look on the camera.

The outcome of the picture shows a figure within the picture that wasn’t visible when the audience saw the character taking the picture. This is something I wanted to apply to my trailer to build the suspense and show the stalker is lurking around.

Although I used a different shot type i.e. Point Of View, I decided to apply the conventions of the Chernobyl Diaries trailer within PARANOIA. This involved before shooting the footage to take a picture with the stalker in the background. I then filmed the shot without the stalker in the background and the next shot would show the picture I took previously. This builds anticipation as the audience have witnessed the picture being take and no one was in the picture other than one of the girls.

This overall created a good effect and after editing the shots on Premier Pro provided me with a convention similar to other trailers that worked well in suggesting my genre.
