locations and projectsIn over three years of pilot deployments in Ni-geria, Liberia and earthquake-stricken Haiti, the Solar Suitcase was developed and refined into a rugged product that can be easily in-stalled, used and serviced. We Care Solar has provided over 600 Solar Suitcases to health facilities in 27 countries around the world and is expanding programs in Uganda, Nepal, Ma-lawi, Tanzania, Sierra Leone and Ethiopia.

the we care solar suitcaseThe We Care Solar Suitcase is a portable 40 watt, highly efficient stand-alone 12V DC solar electric system designed for remote off-grid lo-cations. The suitcase comes with LED medical task lighting, a universal cell phone charger, a battery charger, a fetal doppler, headlamps, and two outlets for charging 12V DC devices. It can be used as an independent power supply or as a back-up source of electricity for loca-tions with intermittent power.

key design features » All-in-one system ships ready to provide power. » Sealed batteries and low-voltage DC system

avoids shock hazard. » One button plug-and-play system expands to ac-

commodate larger batteries (up to 140 amp-hour) and panels (up to 200 watts) » High quality components are made to withstand

harsh environments.

the problemThere are an estimated 200,000 health facilities around the world without reliable electricity. Imagine trying to give birth in utter darkness or performing surgery by flashlight. The consequences are often tragic. Lives can be saved when reliable electricity is available.

our missionWe Care Solar provides simple and reliable solar electricity solutions for humanitarian purposes. We focus on maternal health clinics in the developing world where pregnancy com-plications claim the life of a mother every two minutes.

history and purposeLaura Stachel, MD, MPH and Hal Aronson, PhD founded We Care Solar in 2009 after our research in Nigerian health facilities revealed that a simple lack of electricity and light con-tributed to maternal and neonatal deaths. With-out power and light, health providers could not provide life-saving services to mothers and in-fants with childbirth complications.

impact and success Our award-winning We Care Solar Suitcases improve clinical and surgical care in regions without reliable electricity. Health workers can identify and treat complications; patients can receive timely care, mothers are no longer turned away during labor, resulting in better outcomes for mothers and babies.
