Theme: In The Name of Jesus ChristSub-Theme: The Humanity of Christ (2)Topic: His IncarnationText: John 1:1-14Aim: To help us understand that although He was

God, Jesus Christ became human by the Holy Spirit in order to save sinful and lost humanity

Introduction: In Christian theology, the doctrine of the incarnation holds that Jesus is the living “divine Logos” (Word) and the “hypostasis” (individual existence of the dual nature of Christ as God and man). By taking on a human body and human nature, Jesus was made flesh and conceived in the womb of a woman. This affirms Jesus Christ as both fully God and fully human.

Study Guide/Questions:1. What do you understand by the term “Incarnation”?2. What do the following passages teach about the

incarnation of Christ? Matt. 1:18; John 1:1-3, 14; 1Tim. 3:16

3. From the genealogical history of Christ in Matt. 1:1-17, discuss the sovereignty of God in the light of some personalities who were without a sterling reputation, but were among the ancestors of Christ. What lessons are there for us?

4. Discuss the benefits of the Incarnation of Christ to mankind in the light of the following passages

Conclusion: God became man in order to reach mankind with the Gospel of Salvation. He left His throne above to take our nature upon Him for our salvation and deliverance. May we learn to appreciate and glorify Him in all that we do.

Food For Thought: God’s Son became a man for the sake of sinful men.

Memory Verse: John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth”.

UNDERSTANDING BAPTISM AS A KINGDOM PRINCIPLE.

“I will sprinkle clean water upon you and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses and from all your idols I will cleanse you” Ezek. 36:25.

Baptism is the application of water to a person as a Sacrament or religious ceremony by which one is initiated into the visible Church of Christ. It is also understood as an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. ‘He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit’ Mk. 1:8.

John the Baptist, as a dedicated man of God who saw clearly his role in preparing for the coming of Christ, spoke of the coming Kingdom of heaven and the need to prepare by repentance through baptism.

Paul the Apostle of Christ in his letter to the Romans 6:1-14 is suggesting that everybody on becoming a Christian is given an expensive dress which is also of very high quality which should not be allowed to get dirty or soiled. That is to say, Christians are given a new live. Among this is forgiveness of sin the work of Christ on the cross. One need to repent, believe and submit to the rite of baptism. This is the outward sign, or of picture of repentance and the beginning of new life. As we have been told some Sundays ago, at baptism, you were being immersed in the life and death of Jesus Christ, so as to become a new creation, to be born anew.

The application of water to a person is a sacrament or religious ceremony by which

one is initiated into the visible Church of Christ. Jesus commanded baptism, saying “Make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…: Matt.28:19.

Paul the Apostle also said, “And you were buried with Him in baptism in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.” Col. 2:12.

Jesus authenticated an outpouring of the Holy Spirit for His disciples. He told them, in a few days you will be baptized

with the Holy Spirit, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witness… to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:5&8. Ten days after, it was fulfilled. Acts 2:1-4.

As a matter of principle, baptism to you and I today is a pointer that we were and at the same time sinners. One thing that is sure and certain is that the gate to the Kingdom of heaven is still widely opened. To be a citizen of this Kingdom, we need to be thoroughly washed and made clean haven’t confessed and repented of our sins. We need to consider some instances whereby people washed at the command of Jesus and men of God and they were not the same again.

1. Naaman washed in Jordan (2 Kings 5:14)2. The Man born blind washed in the pool of Siloam (John 9:7).

We learnt they were like a new born baby. To be candidates of His Kingdom here and thereafter you need the clean water of (1) Purification (2) Regeneration. Don’t see yourself as too big to submit to the baptism of the Holy Spirit. You will not miss His Heavenly Kingdom.

Remain Blessed.
