The grid reference is F10.

d) Write directions for Tim and Mel to follow to get from the old cottage to the cow.(Remember: Tim and Mel will need to walk around objects.)

Answers will vary. Examples are:

• Start at the old cottage. Move left 5 spaces. Then move down 4 spaces.

or

• Start at the old cottage. Move down 2 spaces and then move left 3 spaces. Move down 2 spaces and then left 2 spaces.

7. a) Create a model of the guinea pig hutch using simple materials, e.g. straws, toothpicks, bamboo skewers, cardboard, sticky tape, plasticine, playdough.

b) Photograph or draw your model.

Check student’s drawing or photograph of model for accurate geometric features.

8. a) Tick the name of the three-dimensional object that is the same as the guinea pig hutch.

pyramid triangular prism rectangular prism cone

b) Use mathematical language to describe the features of this three-dimensional object.

A triangular prism is a three-dimensional object that has two triangular faces, equal in size, as the ends or bases. All other faces are rectangular. It has 9 edges, 6 corners and 5 faces.

c) Explain why you chose this name to describe the guinea pig hutch.

The guinea pig hutch has all of these same features.

Part B
