Expanded Audience: a Live Cinema Performance by Broken Fixed, a group of students of the Utrecht School of the Arts.Tuesday 22 January, 19.00h

The performance is the result of a research on expanded cinema, content, form and the participation and involvement of the viewer. This is not only a relevant and controversial topic, it also provides space for experiments. By placing the public in the middle of the performance space (consistent of five screens arranged in a circle), a unique way of experiencing the artwork will be offered. This is one of the most specific elements of Expanded Cinema opposed to traditional film. The public will have an active role through interactive objects, which at various times influence the presentation. The presentation is a Live Expanded Cinema Performance on Expanded Cinema and the role of its viewers.

In this presentation the theme of Expanded Cinema will be explored and explained on the basis of six different subjects: the identity of the viewer, place and context, technology, perception, intention and interpretation and the relationship between the artist and the public. Through interviews with several experts and additional information the performance will raise questions on the possibilities and artistic use of Expanded Cinema.

Expanded Audience is a performance by: Simon Bertheux, Seeltje van Boeckel, Gino Kawsoleea, Nienke Minck, Hilke Peters, Maira Rachmadiev, Thom Smeets, Mick van Olst and Michiel Westerink.
