Jordan: Westbrook

Traveller: Casey Neistat

All the adverts have something in common and that is they emphasis on having fun, which is probably the best way to get the reader to enjoy the advert. Keeping in mind that most adverts are skipped

creating an ad which is humorous and entertaining will most definitely keep the audience’s attention, an advert with no humour or entertainment factor will be inattentive to most audiences,Like Russell Westbrook’s dance moves in the ‘HittinEm’.What the Travellers Ad did well was, use humour to entertain the audience but also show off the product, this is definitely an effective technique that adverts use to attract the audience.

In each advert you’ll realise there are audio codes, there are music soundtracks in all of the advert here and their quite catchy jingles. I think that Non- diegetic sounds such as music soundtracks will catch peoples attention and make it even more appealing, especially as us people love hearing our favourite music tracks on the radio or on our phones etc. Hearing our favourite song or jingle on anadvert will enhance our liking as we have something to listen to and enjoy whiles watching the Ad. Furthermore all these following adverts has used Non-diegetic sounds toboost its credibility, for instance hearing the Traveller adjingle in the background you can tell it’s old-school pop rock. Old school music is nostalgic, which shows that the target audience is targeted at the older generation, specifically 30+ as the younger generation, are not to familiar or fond of the old school pop rock, especially as it’s not as common in this generation. ‘Hittinem’ and ‘Travel with style’ adverts both use a celebrity in their advert; I believe there are many advantages for adverting when celebrities are included. For instance the strong liking of celebrities and fandom those consumers have for certain celebrities can greatly influence their purchases. People may have the attitude, “If the product is good for him or her, its good enough for me. This is where differences in target audience play apart in these adverts, for instance JD never use celebrities in their adverts, I believe this is because they want to show case the clothes than they actual person; JD try to emphasise more on the clothing than the actual person wearing them, you can see from how the clothes are worn with different camera angles and close ups on the clothing that JD want to put most of its attention on its apparel. However from looking at the Hittinem’ and ‘Travel with style’ adverts, they emphasise and show case the celebrity more than the actual clothing itself.

Advertising and theory

Ideology, Meaning and Advertising

Product: Generator

Jordan ‘Hittinem’ advert, uses product of generator. Product of Generator is when an idea goes from representing something of its quality or feeling, to actually creating or being that that feeling. Jordan ‘Hittinem’ advert; referent is a fun dance theme. In the advert you see many people dancing and singing to the loud pop music that plays in the background. Product of Generator appears blatantly for instance, the track that plays in the background and the dancers who sing the lyrics; the song continuously repeats the lyrics “now I do what I want”. The lyrics continuously repeat throughout the whole song, whiles the dancers are engulf with excitement and seem very happy to showcase their dance moves. I believe that this advert portrays an idea of freedom. For instance, the lyrics “now I do what I want”, I think implies that the dancers can be themselves, and show their true character by letting loose and having fun. Furthermore the dancing in the Ad shows how the dancers can freely express themselves, through their dancing and this is what I believe this Advert represents.
